Hey, it’s me Cowabelle. Roberta’s and my school project is going much better now that she has actually realized that we have to work hard in order to do well in school. (Um – earth to Roberta? Hello?) So now that we’ve done a load of research on pioneers, it’s time to decide how we should present the information. We’ve both got some good ideas.
I was thinking that it might be fun to create a mock newspaper set in the early days of Kinzville when pioneers were first settling here. We could write a few different articles about some of the different topics we want to cover, like the type of food they ate, and early clothing and dwellings. Then we could draw pictures that would be like the photos in a regular newspaper.
But Roberta had a good idea too. She wants to make up a pretend interview with a pioneer, asking them questions about their first impressions of Kinzville. I thought that could be pretty neat.
Then when we were looking at the Kinzville Times to get references for articles and interviews, Roberta said that it might also be cool do up our project as an advertisement. We could do a big, eye-catching full page ad on why pioneers should come and settle in Kinzville. We could use lots of pictures and catchy headlines.
And last night when I was reading over one of the books we’ve been using for research, there were some letters from early settlers and I thought – wouldn’t it be neat to write our report as a pioneer writing a letter home about this weird new place? We could do a series of letters home with each letter discussing a different aspect of life in early Kinzville.
Darn! I thought the tough part was done with all our research out of the way. But now we have a tough decision to make. What do you think? Which format should we choose?
Awsome-Pawsome ideas! I think a bit of all of them should do the trick. I had to wrwite a report once about gold mining and I used different ideas. I passed!

I like your thinking LillyLuvie. You can use all the ideas in one newspaper…. articles, interviews, adds, and even letters to the editor. That is also a great way to break up your many subjects you want to cover. Kinda like when you break info into paragraphs in a report. Like the ads could be for the foods and clothing.

Wow! Those are all great ideas. You can do a mock newspaper with ALL of the ideas listed. That would a great idea also. You can divide the jobs in half and do one of each: a letter or two, an advertisement and the interview.

That’s a creative idea! They should totally do a newspaper with an advertisement, interview, and a couple letters. Thinking about it makes me want to do this for a writing project! ;)

Do the add that sounds fun and a great way to present your work! I saw some girls in my primary school doing and news report why one was video in’ it and the cracked up laughing there heads off!
I agree with Kirby42280. But, I also disagree with your topic. If you ask your teacher, you should narrow it down to a certain subject. One sugestion: “Daily lives of the Kinzvill Women and Girls during 1829.” 1829 is just a suggestion. Whenever people started settling would be OK to.
