Roberta’s Sibling

Dear Diary, I told my friends about the fact that I’m going to be a big sister pretty soon (in a few months!).  I also told them about having to move – even though we’re not leaving Kinzville, it’s another big change and I wanted to share it with them.   And know what? Each of my friends had a different opinion on what was happening. Unsurprising, since all of my friends are very…well…different!   Stoogles: said that siblings are overrated. Of course, that could be because he has about a dozen of them. He said that sharing a bathroom is no fun, and sharing toys is even worse. I reminded him that I’m going to be a lot older than my brother or sister, so the toy thing isn’t an issue. And since we’re moving, we’ll probably have more than one bathroom in the house.   Salley: said that she was happy for me, and even a little jealous. She’s always wanted a sibling.   Cowabelle: said that babies are a lot of trouble and make a TON of noise. She said I could escape to her house whenever I wanted, and told me to encourage my parents to … Read more

Roberta’s Big Surprise

Dear Diary, You are never, ever in a billion years going to believe what my parents told me today. Remember how I said they were acting distant? And how they were being weird? Well, now I know why. My mom is having a baby! My parents didn’t know exactly how to tell me. They said that since I’ve been an only rabbit for so long, they didn’t know how I’d take the news. They made a special dinner and called me into the dining room. On the wall was a banner. It said, “You’re going to be a big sister!” I nearly fainted. That’s honestly what happened. The room got a little dim and I felt my knees turn to jelly. My dad grabbed a chair and helped me sit down. He got me a glass of carrot juice and told me to drink it slowly. My mom held my paw and asked if I was OK. I just drank my juice and nodded. After a few moments, my dad asked what I thought. What do I think? That’s a tough question. Part of me is really excited – I’ve always … Read more

Roberta Rabbit: Going Green

Roberta Rabbit here with another successful ‘Kinz meeting. Today we told Salley how much work we had done to help her with her Earth Day plans. She was SO happy, I thought she was going to cry! I guess she’s been pretty stressed out lately. We managed to get one hundred volunteers to help with the Kinzville cleanup. We also managed to get tons of donations from businesses (Arte and Debbie Dragon were especially generous), and Chef Gazpacho and Chef Sophia even volunteered to make goodies for the clean up crew to enjoy after the job is done! Salley thanked us and said that next time, she’d definitely want our help with her plans. We reminded her that even though you CAN do stuff by yourself, sometimes it’s easier (and more fun) with friends! Earth Day is going to be AWESOME!

Roberta’s Observations

Dear Diary, Things have been a bit weird around here lately. Why? It’s my parents. I don’t know what’s going on with them, but they seem to be so preoccupied lately. For example, I was supposed to bring some KinzCash to school for pizza day. Normally my mom puts the KinzCash in my backpack, but it wasn’t there! When I got home and asked her about it, she said I was old enough to take responsibility for my own pizza! Yesterday, I wanted to go for a bike ride with my dad, but he said he and my mom had to do some talking, and that they were going for a walk. When I asked if I could join them, they said no! Can you believe it? They’ve never been like this before. One other strange thing: I made carrot muffins today (my specialty) and when I offered one to my mom, she said, “Ugh, no thanks.” How rude, right? Why would she think my carrot muffins are gross all of a sudden? Have I done something wrong? Roberta

Millie’s Easter Basket

Millie asked the Easter Bunny (AKA: me, or my uncle) for a special basket for her goodies. I decided to get super-crafty and make her a gorgeous decoupage basket. Check it out!             What you need: Shoe box, pipe cleaner, construction paper eggs, scissors,  craft glue, colored duct tape  What you do: Put a layer of glue on one side of your shoe box. Glue on your construction paper eggs. Repeat with the other three sides of the box. Attach your pipe cleaner as a handle. You can  punch a hole through either side of the box, and twist your handle in place. Add a border of colored duct tape at the top and bottom of your box. Fill the box full of goodies!

Roberta Rabbit: Not the Easter Bunny

Millie Pig is a very…interesting little girl. I found out why she’s been acting so strangely around me. For some reason, she thinks I’m either the Easter Bunny or related to the Easter Bunny (I’m not). I guess she got the idea because I was dyeing eggs yesterday, and she happened to see me at the park this morning. My paws were all blue and pink and yellow. When she asked why, I told her about the egg dyeing. Her eyes lit up and she said, “What else are you doing for Easter?”I told her about making baskets (and that I had a LOT to do), and chocolates for everyone. By ‘everyone,’ I meant ‘all my friends.’ Not ‘everyone in the world.’ She got this big smile on her face and said, “Are you going to do my basket soon?” I was about to ask her what she meant, but then she continued and said, “I’ve been a good girl! Please, Easter Bunny Roberta, please bring me lots of good stuff!” I said, “I’m not the Easter Bunny, Millie.” And then she said, “Is the Easter Bunny your aunt?” And I said, “No.” … Read more

Crafting with Roberta: Pompom Critters

What you  need: Pompoms, craft glue, felt, wiggle eyes, scissors, pipe cleaners, black or brown fabric paint, your imagination                                What you do: Figure out what kind of pompom animal you want to make. I personally love making little chicks! Cut off about an 1 ½ inches from your pipe cleaner. Make a V-shape from the pipe cleaner. Glue your pompom to the pipe cleaner V (these are the chick’s legs). Glue an orange triangle (either felt or construction paper) onto the pompom (this is the beak). Glue two wiggle eyes above the beak. Glue on two rounded yellow triangles for wings. Let your critter dry thoroughly!

Roberta’s Revenge

I still cannot believe that Cowabelle managed to trick me this morning. I just knew she was going to try and pull something, but I guess I was so sleepy when she called at 5:30 that it didn’t occur to me that today was April 1. I felt like such an idiot, standing outside the school like that at 5am. But I know exactly how to get back at her. Cowabelle has been eying this one sweater in the KinzStyle Outlet but she keeps moaning about how it’s too expensive and she can’t afford it. Well, I am going to call her after school and tell her that PJ is having a 50% off sale. Cowabelle will probably rush right out, thinking the sweater she wants has come down in price and then she will be in for a shock!

Craft: Big Watercolor Flowers

Watercolorflowers

It might not be springtime quite yet, but I can’t help but make a few pretty flowers to decorate my room! Here’s how to make some of your own!   What you need: Flower-shaped coffee filters (the basket kind), watercolor paint, Q-tips or paintbrush, water, cardboard (for laying the flowers out so they can dry), pipe cleaners, beads   What you do: 1.       Get the watercolor paints nice and wet – add lots of water. 2.       Use the Q-tip or paintbrush to dab the colors onto the coffee filters. The colors will run together and be gorgeous! 3.       Let the coffee filter flowers dry. 4.       When the flowers are dry, poke a hole through the center and put a bead on one end to secure it in place. Twist the filter around the bead so it looks like a flower. You can put more than one filter together for a fluffier flower. 5.       Put another bead onto the pipe cleaner (it will be below the flower) to keep the blossom in place. 6.       Make a whole bunch and decorate your room!

Cinnamon hearts are yummy,When they’re sitting in your tummy,But you  might get a glass of water,Because on your tongue?  They’re hotter.   There once was a pig named Molly,Who thought Valentine’s day was a folly,She was too young to have a crush,Didn’t like love and all that mush,But chocolate? She loved that, by golly! Roses are red, Elephants are gray,Just wanted to wish you,A wonderful day!

Roberta’s Valentine Craft: Candy Calculator

Another wonderful craft to add to the bag of Valentine’s treats for my class!   What you need: Cardstock, scissors, candy dots, double-sided tape, marker, printer paper , glue stick   What you do: Measure the cardstock, and mark it so you can cut it into four equal rectangles. Cut along the lines you marked. You now have four ‘calculators’. Cut out small white rectangles from the printer paper. At the top of each calculator, glue a small white rectangle for a screen. Write a Valentine’s message  like “You’re #1” or “U R GR-8!” or “U R 2 Cool!” Cut your candy buttons into squares of twelve (3 candies in 4 rows). On the bottom of the calculator, use double-sided tape to secure the paper the candies are on. Decorate the calculator with fun stickers.

Roberta’s Conundrum

Roberta

Roberta here, with a bit of a conundrum. See, I was at my locker after school and I kind of overheard something that I wasn’t supposed to overhear. Alex was talking to Sparky about a girl he likes. He was saying how worried he was about what to get for that certain special someone for Valentine’s Day. Alex mentioned a box of chocolates (which I think is PERFECT for anyone, really), but Sparky was saying that maybe he should get this girl a pack of baseball cards and some gum.  I wasn’t sure which girl they were talking about, so I thought maybe it was someone who liked sports (and gum). But then Alex said, “I don’t know if Molly would like that!” And I couldn’t help myself, I had to interject. “No!” I said. “Alex, go with the chocolates. Molly doesn’t even like baseball.” Whoops. Alex turned BRIGHT red, and Sparky didn’t look too pleased. Well, it’s not my fault! They were talking, and I could hear them. I’m a rabbit! I have good ears! Anyway, Alex said something quickly about going with the chocolates and then ran off. Sparky said, … Read more

Roberta’s Valentine: Sweet Pencils

This is my latest addition to the treat bags I’m making my class. They are going to LOVE these!   What you need: pencils, ribbon, cardstock, one-hole punch, thin ribbon, beads   What you do: For each pencil, cut a piece of ribbon about six inches long. Tie the ribbon around the top of the pencil (right below the eraser part). Make sure it’s secure (tie a knot). On one end of the ribbon, string a few beads. Tie a knot to keep them in place. Cut out hearts from the cardstock (one per pencil). On each heart, write “You’re all write, Valentine!” Punch one hole in each heart. On the other end of the ribbon, thread on the cardstock heart. Add beads to the bottom of the ribbon and tie a knot to keep it all in place.
