Still not paying for it. (눈_눈)

    • natalierose says:

      Totally worth it!

      • Pokekinz says:

No, it really isn’t. Why would I pay for something that’s just virtual?? I can’t understand that. It’s not like buying a video game, you can get a lot more enjoyment with that, and when you’re done, you can sell it. Here, you only have it for a certain amount of time, and once your done with Webkinz, then what?

        • Fracktail says:

That’s a really good point, and I’ve never been able to articulate it but you took the words right out of my mouth. At first I was like, “that’s a pretty good deal”, but then I thought, “why do I need this?” Because like you said, it’s all virtual; even if it is fun, it’s to pass the time, as opposed to having a goal (which isn’t a bad thing, just an alternate way to play, but putting money into it won’t change the experience in the long run besides giving you more stuff to look at). Also, that emoticon in the first post is rather hilarious. Especially when you find out that the eye symbols literally translate to “eye” in Korean. :P

        • Dolan says:

People pay to see a movie in the theatre, to go to a movie or a concert. They also pay for television and internet access. Why should Webkinz provide all the wonderful entertainment that it does to you for free? I really enjoy playing on Webkinz and I like to think that my Deluxe Membership fees will enable me to keep playing for a very long time!

        • jellydonut says:

It’s like buying apps for your phone. Just something extra to add to the fun.

        • boorepko says:

I am sure you pay for virtual all the time…Cable or Satellite TV are along the same lines. How about Netflix…same idea. How about Itunes or WiFi? You really get nothing concrete…just a whole lot of enjoyment. What about a movie? It costs a lot for a family to go to the movies and you have nothing to show for it. Not to mention…a Timmies (Tim Horton’s coffee) or Starbucks is a lot more than that, and I know many people who buy one of those a day. Deluxe does cost money, but it can make a great Christmas or Birthday gift. How many gifts do you have lying around that you don’t play with or use anymore? A lot of people are on Webkinz every single day, so I am ok with the 13 cents a day.

          • Pokekinz says:

Actually, I don’t pay for Apps. For the exact same reason, I feel it’s a waste. I’m not saying it doesn’t make sense, I’m saying it doesn’t make sense for me to do it. The main reason is they’re shoving it in meh face. Which tends to make me dislike things. Like Frozen. There’s just a lot of stuff that is or was popular, and because it was <i.everywhere, I didn’t like it. And I actually use a lot of my old toys…. Heh…. Besides, WiFi is much different than deluxe. WiFi is a tool, it provides another means of communication, and the entertainment is something extra. And also, movies aren’t really the same thing either, they can be informal, thought provoking, intelligent, interesting, and maybe convey good messages. Not all, but some. And I hardly ever go to the movies. Except when we get the tickets nearly for free. And, to be fair, coffee and such from Starbucks is still sustenance. Not the healthiest thing on earth, but it’s not virtual items. And, if you give something as a gift, it’s not for yourself, it’s for someone else, and that feeling you get when you make somebody’s day. I’m not</i. okay with thirteen cents a day, because it's what took away so much of what we used to have. And Dolan, it's not free if you bought a plush. It was originally to help sell plushes. And thank you Fracktail, I thought the face was funny too. XD It's like a dissaproving kaomoji, I guess, heh. This doesn't apply to everyone, but I'm still annoyed with how much is Deluxe. (In grumpy old man voice) Urgh, Deluxe these days! \(╬`•̀益•́´)/

          • Fracktail says:

*waves cane* Those rascally whippersnappers, with their fancy-schmancy Deluxe member-shops! Why, in my day, I had to buy a toy to get into Webkinz! And if ya didn’t buy one every year, ye could kiss yer account goodbye! Those were the days…okay, I’ll stop now. But I do like buying the plushes more than buying virtual stuff because when I’m done playing Webkinz, I still have the plushes around. I know Ganz has to make money to keep the site up, but not being able to access half the site after paying for the “full” membership seems a bit much. Thirteen cents a day doesn’t sound like much at first, but if you want to keep playing Deluxe you need to constantly keep renewing it every time it runs out, which can add up to a lot of money. This is different from a movie or video game because if you buy one of those, you get the whole thing for paying the whole price. You wouldn’t pay extra for plot twists or things like that, because you already paid for that when you bought the movie. So, I don’t think you can compare buying Deluxe membership to buying a movie or coffee, because it’s like comparing apples and oranges. They’re just too different!

          • Pokekinz says:

Well. I messed up the HTML tags on that one. Eh, you know what I meant. :P

          • Pokekinz says:

Yeah! Apples can go in pies, and you can zest oranges. So, yeah, not big on 13¢ a day. I mean, multiply that by 365. (O_o) I could buy a ton of Starbucks coffee with that. Well, actually, I probably couldn’t get that much…. Uh, I could get a plush. As of now, I don’t make anything a day, so, yeah. Heh. I can understand a few things being Deluxe, but they took away the Travel Agency! They could’ve made it free to get to Vacation Island for Deluxe members, and left us the Travel Agency.

          • Fracktail says:

Well, the year membership adds up to around 47 dollars, but if you get a membership every year than it just keeps piling up. And when you can’t renew it again, then what? You can’t get back the hundreds of dollars spent on games you can’t play anymore, that’s for sure. At least if you buy a video game, you can access everything in it for as long as it’s in your possession. And yeah, the Vacation Island was fun. I guess I don’t miss it too much because I didn’t really play in it, but I did used to use the Spa (which would have helped when all my Webkinz’s meters suddenly dropped to zero for no reason. That was a pain to fix.)

          • Pokekinz says:

The energy meters randomly dropping to zero happened to me a few times, but I think it might’ve just been a visual glitch, because it went back to normal after a little while. I think it was when the meters dropped a little. I dunno. Plus, there was some good beachwear there on the island. And I’d complain about not being able to go to the Coral Cove, but they don’t have KC+ there anymore. :\

          • Fracktail says:

There were good swimsuits there! That’s definitely something I miss, because there’s not a lot of that in the W-shop. Actually no, there’s a lot in the W-shop, that’s pajamas I’m thinking of. (There’s like, two pairs!) But yeah, Vacation Island was fun. I remember buying twenty of everything in the Souvenir Shack and using them to make my own Souvenir Shack room in my house. I don’t think I still have the Souvenir Shack room, but I still have all the items hanging around.

          • Pokekinz says:

Hey, a Souvenir Shack room would be cool. It could be a small room (cuz it’s a shack and stuff), which is connected to a beach room, which is connected to an underwater room! Yay! And I need non-Wshop bathing suits, because a lot of my pets don’t have swimwear. Although I don’t think any swimwear suits Shadow. Orion’s is awesome, though, he’s rocking those giant shades. :P

          • Fracktail says:

That’s an awesome idea! Connecting the rooms like that is pretty cool. If you want, I can send you my Vacation Island stuff so you can make it! (Unless you already have it. But if you need extras, I’d be happy to give you some! If only they had ninja swimsuits. Then Shadow would have something to wear in the pool. Or maybe he could wear the “water spirit” outfit, you know, the one with the water halo above the head. Everyone would be getting their swimsuits on to go in the pool and they’re all outside waiting for Shadow to change and they’d be like, “huh, Shadow is taking a long time in the changing room” and Shadow would just be going “AQUA NINJA MODE, ACTIVATE” and become a powerful water warrior. Come to think of it, I don’t think Helix has any swimwear either. Which is weird, because I usually try to fill up all the “dressing” categories on my Webkinz (despite the fact that I never actually use them). I don’t even know what Helix would wear in the pool. Probably a scuba suit.

          • Pokekinz says:

Oh wow, that’s really coincidental, Chipadea wears a hot pink diving-bell suit. I once had a bunch of my Webkinz gather in my outdoor pool room for a sort of party. Shadow wasn’t there, though. (Also, personality-wise, I think the fire-element suits Shadow the most. But that wouldn’t be a great bathingsuit. But then again, with the water one, it kinda has a skirt.) I don’t think Shadow would ever go to a pool party, or a party of any kind for that matter. I think maybe I should just give him those blue swimtrunks with a yello stripe down the side. I dunno. Shadow also doesn’t have sleepwear. I guess he’s just always ready for action or something. Actually, I’m pretty sure actual ninjas would wear their ninja suits into the water. His fancy isn’t really fancy, either, it’s Black Ninja. His casual is Red Ninja. And I hardly ever use the other outfits, either. XD Maybe if I were going to someone’s party there’d be a suiting outfit. Swimwear for a pool party, casual for a normal party, fancy for a formal party, sporty for…. A sport themed party? And sleepwear could be for a sleep-over themed party. Even thought they couldn’t actually sleep-over. And thanks for the offer about the Vacation Island stuff! I haven’t started building yet, so I’m not sure what I need, but I’ll be sure to let you know when I find out. ;D I recently remodeled Shadow’s room, by the way. It looks pretty good. Maybe I’ll email it to Michael Webkinz.

          • Fracktail says:

Haha, the scuba suit fits Chipadea perfectly!! And yeah, I agree that fire suits Shadow best. Then again, that wouldn’t make very good swimwear. :P Also, a sport themed party sounds terrifying. I would hide under my bed. Feel free to ask me about the Vacation Island stuff! Some of the stuff I might not be able to find right away, but it’s all somewhere. What is Shadow’s new room like? I hope I’ll be able to see it! And yeah, I agree that the blue swim trunks work best for Shadow, seeing as they’re very subdued. That or the NEON PASTEL CIRCLE TRUNKS PASTEL NINJA FOR THE WIN

          • Pokekinz says:

Yes, the swim trunks of Shadow’s nightmares. XD That’s a weird nightmare. I think I’ll start working on the Vacations Island-Themed rooms soon. Oh, and a Beach House room connected to the Beach room! Yeah. But Shadow’s room is mainly Ichiban-themed items, with a huge tatami mat made out of a bunch of smaller tatami mats smack dab in the middle, with a dining table and the pale sand-colored zabutons around it. At each corner of the table, there’s a lamp. Lantern. Thing. There’s also a Traditional Taiko Drum near the bottom left, with two pedestals on either side with Calming Candles on them at opposing angles. All the way to the bottom and left, there’s the vase fridge with a Shoji Room Divider sort of squaring it off or something. Then, on the left wall, there are two book shelves with the ichiban toy chest in front of them (but Shadow doesn’t keep toys in there, oh no). There’s a Rock Garden at the top right, with two side tables with little Bonsai trees on them. At the top right is Shadow’s bed, with Samurai Armor by the upper left, and two Shoji Room Dividers squaring it off from the rest of the room. At the bottom right, there are two coffee tables (although Shadow doesn’t actually drink coffee), each at opposing angles, one touching the right invisible “wall” (that’s where it just ends and goes off into blueness), and the other touching the left invisible “wall”. There are two zabutons, one for each coffe table, and in between the two tables there’s a bamboo plant. On the right-most table, there’s a red tea set (he does drink tea). There are crashing wave tapestries on the wall, one on the left wall one space away from the far bottom left edge, then another on the left wall one space away from where the two visible walls meet, then a tapestry on the right wall a space away from the corner where the walls meet, and the last tapestry on the right wall one space away from the far upper right edge. On that edge (which is above Shadow’s bed) is a brush painting scroll. Then, to two spaces to the left of the scroll (and one space top the left of the nearest tapestry) is a Land of the Rising Sun Window. Another window is on the left wall right above one of the Bonsai trees, imediately to the upper right of the right most book shelf. Hopefully you can understand all that, and I’m pretty sure I way over-explained everything, and I could’ve just said “it was made with Ichiban stuff”. But maybe if we’re on at the same time at some point, I could invite you. Assuming that’ll work with Webkinz X. :/

          • Fracktail says:

Shadow’s room sounds awesome! The samurai armor fits perfectly. (Even though samurai and ninja are technically rivals. I DON’T KNOW. IT LOOKS COOL. THAT’S GOOD.) Also, are you suuuuuuuure Shadow doesn’t keep toys in there? Are you pooooooositive? ◔ ⌣ ◔
But yeah, I wish I could visit your Webkinz house to see it. Unfortunately school jus started for me, so I won’t be on Webkinz very much (so if I take a while to make a reply, that’s why. Ooh, a rhyme. Hee.)

          • Pokekinz says:

Yeah, I actually messed up on the explanation a bit, the dining table is surrounded by couches and lanterns, not zabutons and lanterns. And I suppose it depends on what qualifies as “toys”. (≖‿≖) Also, I realized that clicking on the Webkinz Phone icon messes up KinzChat and KinzChat Plus, so I guess I couldn’t say anything during the visit. :\ And that’s okie, cuz school is somewhat more important than writing comments. :P

          • Fracktail says:

That’s too bad…hopefully the KinzChat phone will work soon. Also, it would be cool if the W-Shop had zabutons, haha. Then again, it’d be pretty hard to eat at a table on a floor mat. :P

          • Pokekinz says:

Actually, it does. I still have two zabutons by the coffee tables. Although I think it looks more like a chair. The zabutons are pretty short, so I guess it does kinda look like one. The table is short, too. I think a lot of people ate at a short table on zabutons, maybe even still do, but I’m not sure. And I hope it gets fixed soon, too. That and KinzChat/KinzChat Plus. Ugh, why does Webkinz X have so many glitches??

          • Fracktail says:

Oh, cool! I didn’t know that. I’ll have to get one once I escape from my Webkinz economic crisis (which I haven’t been doing at all considering how school started and how Webkinz X has the maneuverability of a jelly doughnut). As much as the concept of Webkinz X vexes me though (I’m a strong advocate of “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it”), I have to admit that Webkinz constantly evolving and adapting is what kept it afloat when all the other popular pet sites died down. (That, and people paying money to get a complete membership. But I won’t get into that.)

          • Pokekinz says:

Yeah, we get into that and we’ll all be hurling chairs out windows and stuff. :P Apparently one of the reasons they updated it to “Webkinz X” is because they don’t want the Flash Player that’s supporting it to stop being supported by browsing systems. Or something to that effect. But, I don’t think it makes much sense, since they still could’ve put it off. It certainly didn’t seem to have been tested very thoroughly. They were obviously aware of a lot of these problems, and I wish they had worked it out beforehand. And there are two different kinds of zabutons: A sand-colored one with a darker brown wooden back, and a red one with a lighter wooden back. I only used the sandy-colored ones. And I actually do generally agree with “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it”, unless maybe it’s been extremely slow and glitchy from the beginning. I guess that might count as being broken to some extent, since gamers often refer to games as being “broken” when they have a lot of glitches. And I often find when I try to “fix up” a drawing which is perfectly fine, and I just thought I could add to it, I just ruin it. :(

          • Fracktail says:

What’s funny is that that can of worms is what this whole conversation started with in the first place. How far we’ve come. :P And I understand if that’s the reason they did it, because we’ve come to the point where we must accept that Flash is pretty much dead. (Homestar Runner has made that abundantly clear. I can’t believe they finally updated ;_;) I guess now the alternative is HTML5, so if they wanted to switch it over to that then it’s entirely understandable. I just wish…I dunno, they didn’t change so much? Although I don’t know how to use HTML5, so maybe it was impossible to keep all the pieces the same in the transition. Who knows. What I do know is that it’s pretty admirable how they were able to adapt like that to keep afloat when they’ve been using Flash for years. It makes a lot more sense now that I know why; I just wish they’d told us, instead of being like “we wanted to celebrate being successful with this site for so many years by GIVING IT A COMPLETE OVERHAUL.” I mean, maybe it’s my fault, since I’ve known for a while that Flash is going down. I guess I just forgot that Webkinz ran on Flash and didn’t put two and two together. Well, whoops.

          • Pokekinz says:

I’m actually not very knowledgeable about computers and computer-related stuff and whether or not they’re outdated. Meh. ‘Course that didn’t mean they had to make my pets say my name. (-_-) And I do agree, they should’ve told us, we aren’t all so clueless about that sort of thing. And even if we were, it wouldn’t be very hard to explain it. And did they have to make it look so much like the app?? *Sighs* But, it’s not like Webkinz X is the only problem. I mean, streamlining KC+ was one of the worst “updates” I’ve seen so far. And all the Deluxe stuff, ugh.

          • Fracktail says:

Yeah, I’m not too keen on the app layout. The color scheme is kinda tacky, and not as bright and sunny as it was before. Plus, the rooms are still extremely fuzzy, so decorating is out of the question (i.e. pretty much the main thing I did on Webkinz). Although at least I can count on the rooms to improve, so the transition to Webkinz X isn’t grating on me too much. I can’t say the same about the KinzChat thing, though. That was awful. I remember every player was so upset by that (and rightfully so!), that they had to close the comments section for the article so that nobody could complain anymore. And then they went and did it anyways. Not cool. I mean, sure, they put it in the Kinzville Park, but let’s see…you can’t “Find My Friends”, you can’t do role-play stuff anymore (e.g. restaurant, theater, that kinda stuff), and you can’t do pet actions in the park (regardless of Webkinz X). The reason I went to the Clubhouse instead of the Park was because the park is too big and I can’t find anyone. I mean, while I do appreciate the vastness of the park, sometimes it’s more convenient to be in a room where you can actually see everyone. (/rant)

          • Pokekinz says:

I’ve never really been a fan of the “modern” layout for Webkinz. I didn’t like the new Wshop (still don’t, by the way), and I didn’t like Ms. Birdy’s and Goober’s redesign (again, still don’t). I think GANZ tried to appease the peoples by letting them keep KC+ in the Park, but it didn’t work at all for me. I’m still mad, really, I just don’t act like it too much. I just state my opinion when it’s brought up, pretty much. I really miss being able to chat somewhat freely in the other Clubhouse rooms.

          • Fracktail says:

Ms. Birdy’s redesign was completely unnecessary, I agree. Maybe it was because in Webkinz’s early days, kids started scary rumors about her, but I highly doubt that’s why because those rumors are long dead. They pretty much completely changed her so that she looks (and sounds) younger, which makes no sense at all because she’s meant to be an elderly and gentle caretaker, not a cheerleader. (That was an exaggeration, but you get what I’m saying.) They even changed the Adoption Center when you get a new pet; before, it used soft colors that were easy on the eye and emphasized the whimsiness of the site, like when it had the little Webkinz village in the window. Now the colors are bright and defined, and the window now has roads and pavement and stuff, which takes a toll on the escapist charm the old site had. Webkinz World used to be a fantasy land where fairies and mythical creatures run rampant, and it was an idyllic world where nature was appreciated by all and the Webkinz had their own simple “culture” where everyone belonged. Now, it’s a suburban-type environment where there’s more focus on the Disney-channel-esque “tweens” than the actual characters (who had actual personalities before the ‘Kinz; now they just act as generic adult figures for the little kids); for all intents and purposes, the animal characters are pretty much just humans with paws and fur. And I could go on and on about why I don’t like the ‘Kinz, but this is already getting kinda long and I feel like it’d just make me angry. :P (and yeah, I’m not too keen on Goober’s redesign, but it’s pretty minor and they only use it in that one game, so I think it was just for that purpose. As long as Goober’s personality remains the same, I’ll be happy.)

          • Pokekinz says:

Well, I suppose being more modern suites my imaginary Webkinz story thing whatever it is, because then it can be connected to other places. Like Shadow moved there, and so did Orion. I always imagined the Magical Forest being connected to Kinzville by some sort of magical portal or something, and that the portal was rarely ever open. But of course there are unicorns and dragons, so this is hardly your average collection of anthropomorphic animals. I think I made mine a bit more like the actual animals, because they still walk like the animals they’re based off of, and they don’t wear clothes. But now I think it’s too modern. I definitely preferred the softer colors, and I liked the adult characters so much more than the kids. (I’m using the past tense “liked” because they don’t really seem to do anything anymore, and it’s kinda disappointing. :/ Like you said, pretty much just generic adult characters now. WHY IS EVERYONE BECOMING GENERIC?! PROTECT THE GOOBER!!!) Oh, and for the record, I don’t care for Disney channel. Nope. I liked Phineas and Ferb, and that’s about it. But I didn’t even like the later episodes much.

          • Fracktail says:

Ugh, Disney channel is the worst. There’s always those trying-too-hard-to-be-hip shows with adults playing “tweens” that have an unhealthy amount of drama. And of course there are laugh tracks, just in case we plebeians need to know what’s cool to laugh at. Suffice it to say, the live-action shows make me viscerally sick. The cartoons are pretty much its only saving throw, but even then there are like, what, two of them? Bleh. But back on topic, I always liked the adult characters because they still acted goofy and lovable, and not just boring. Like how Fluffington had this zany money-making scheme to give gunk to everyone on Christmas, and how Plumpy gave everyone the wrong advice and nobody noticed what they were doing wrong until after Tabby put on a chocolate dress and Arte had a stylish pink blouse. Like how Goober invented a helicopter-bicycle and had to rescue Booger when he accidentally flew away on it. Those stories were not only super fun, but also had sweet morals at the end without pushing them in your face (being generous without expecting things in return, not waiting until the last minute to do important tasks, believing in your own abilities, etc.). Nowadays the stories are kinda bland; the ‘Kinz meet in their “super cool kid club”, Priscilla and her posse come and say some half-baked sassy lines, and the ‘Kinz go on a weird scavenger hunt/adventure thing that makes no sense. Or some other thing you could do in real life, like babysitting or going to summer camp. I mean, not that slice-of-life stories aren’t bad per se, but…these are pretty bland, is what I’m saying. It doesn’t help that the ‘Kinz don’t really have their own personalities (except for maybe Sparky, who’s my favorite, but that isn’t saying much).

          • Pokekinz says:

That’s true. I guess they can sometimes be good, like in the beginning of a book, and there’s plenty of interesting dialogue (or funny, either one is good enough for me). But usually I expect it to pick up and get more exciting. But then it’s not really what the story’s about…. Soo…. I guess I’ve never really liked them too much. I mean, two people baking a cake for a party for a friend just isn’t the same as a ditsy sheep and a crazy hyena accidentally making a mayonnaise-cake-monster which was going to be a cake for an apology party funded by a shy but sometimes snarky peace puppy’s credit card, which may or may not have been lent knowingly to them, to a grumpy unsocial ninja black wolf because they broke his bathroom window. And oh my gosh, Priscilla. XP I totally forgot about her. Ya know, quirky weird characters are waaaay more fun than “cool kid” characters. Although Orion seems to really want to be cool. He should get himself a pair of shades. (By the way, I was looking at the Newspaper on Webkinz, and I looked at the stories, and found that the most recently posted one went straight from chapter one to chapter five. Weird…..)

Oh my gosh, that cake thing was amazing. Poseidon still hasn’t figured out what happened to his credit card, haha. I really wish I could finish that with you, but the thing is, I used to have like eight conversations going on on the forums at once on a whole bunch of different topics, and knowing me I’d probably get way too wrapped up in it (especially since I’m going to school now). See, I used to put on the email notifications for the forums, so I’d always be checking to see if there was anything new, and if I got a notification I’d feel like I had to answer right away. This is much more manageable for me, which is why I try not to go on the forums as much except for trading stuff. But I still miss doing those crazy script things. :( But yeah, Priscilla was something. I mean, we have enough Priscillas in real life, don’t we? I dunno about you, but I’m not a fan of having more of them in my virtual kid’s sites. Especially since she has no character beyond “being brattier than the ‘Kinz”. It’d be one thing if the ‘Kinz were sympathetic characters in their own right, but they get caught up in way too much drama themselves, so if Priscilla wasn’t so exaggerated they’d really be very much the same. And Orion gets a pass, because he has actual character and motivations for being cool (i.e. he desperately wants friends from being shunned all the time). And he doesn’t really try to be “cool” in the way most “tweens” do, he just wants to be sociable. (Also, the Newspaper pretty much is reposting all of the W-Tales that were already there. When I wanted to see the old W-Tales back, I meant the ones that were no longer available like the Color Caper one, not the ones we could already access by clicking the ‘back” button multiple times. Speaking of which, I wish there was a table of contents or something. I mean, that’s a lot of back buttons…)

          • Pokekinz says:

Yeah, it’s fine. I’ve never done the subscription thing, I just check back every now and again to see if anybody replied. anyway, maybe I’d have liked Priscilla if they’d given her more nuance. Like she actually had reasons for not like the ‘Kinz or something, and she secretly was obsessed with an old little kid TV show or something. And her friends only hang around her because she’s popular, and they don’t really like her much, and something happens and they sorta just ditch her. And stuff. Then maybe I’d like her. And Orion really wants friends. I don’t know why he decided Shadow is his friend, though. I mean, Shadow is only a super grumpy Black Wolf who doesn’t even remotely like Orion, and he hardly tolerates him. Soooo, Orion? What the crud is wrong with you? Oh, and I know they were just re-posting, and I definitely agree with you on the table of contents. And including stories that are no longer accessable. I think there’s something up with the Newspaper, because the weekly survey hasn’t been updated in a while, and the W-Tales section was all weirded up. I’m telling you, Webkinz X is to blame for this.)

          • Fracktail says:

Nah, the Newspaper has always been weird like that. I think they only do the “weekly” surveys every once in a while, like when there’s a festival (I’m actually surprised they didn’t have a survey asking whether we liked Webkinz X), and the W-Tales are just…the W-Tales. XD Unless there’s a different glitch going on that I didn’t see. It’s impossible for me to log on for some reason, so I dunno…and yeah, Priscilla is pretty flat. I mean, none of the Webkinz really had much of a backstory, but they all had their little quirks and they definitely had more than one personality trait. I wish Priscilla was more of a threat instead of dropping in and being sassy, not like a villain but just letting her selfishness get the better of her and getting in the way of the ‘Kinz. Like, what if there was a story arc where Nafaria was trying to take over the world again, and then Priscilla volunteers to help for some unrelated reason. Nafaria is overjoyed to have her VERY OWN EVIL MINION!!!, but she soon finds out that Priscilla is even more obnoxious than Nafaria is (or at least in Nafaria’s eyes), and the two constantly argue, but Nafaria figures that if Priscilla stays on her side then she’ll eventually gain from it. But then it turns out that Priscilla is horrible at being an evil minion because she hates to “have her beauty tarnished” and do things herself, and so Nafaria gives up on her (but not before Priscilla helps Nafaria at least a little). Then Priscilla realizes that she’s just put Kinzville (and her possessions in it) in danger, so she reluctantly teams up with the ‘Kinz to thwart Nafaria. Something like that. And she wouldn’t be just like Nafaria, because while Priscilla is vain and selfish she cares way more about looks, whereas Nafaria would be a villainous mastermind and a megalomaniac who takes pride in her wits (despite not being able to get Alyssa out of her hair). Priscilla could be more of an anti-hero or something. I think that’d be way cooler than just having her be annoying (even though she still would be annoying, she’d just do more stuff. I dunno.) Maybe I wouldn’t go so far as having her friends ditch her right away, but I like the idea of her being faced with a situation like that at some point. I feel like having her be obsessed with a kid’s TV show would be kinda Nafaria-ish, and my one worry is that the two will be indistinguishable, you know? But I dunno. Regardless of what kinda stuff happens to her, I think she should definitely stay an annoying little kid first and foremost, since that’s what sets her apart from Nafaria (who isn’t very mature either, but she’s not as passive as Priscilla).

          • Pokekinz says:

Well, with the W Tales, I just meant because it went straight from chapter one to chapter five. Now it’s on chapter six, so apparently they’re just gonna go on skipping chapters two through four. And I was hoping they’d ask whether or not we liked Webkinz X. I DON’T LIKE DAT CRUD. Tooooo many glitches, they shoulda waited on releasing it. Also, Nafaria is obsessed with a little kid’s TV show?? Huh????? But I was just saying whatever random thing popped into my head, because I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted her to be like. (Nafaria is obsessed with a kid’s TV show???) But I doubt GANZ is really gonna change her personality, since not a lot of people read those things anyway (which are pretty much just re-postings of the same stories, so they couldn’t really change her there).

          • Fracktail says:

Nah, I just feel like Nafaria would be one to do stuff like that in secret and put on the tough facade, whereas Priscilla would be a jerk inside-out. But my Nafaria isn’t even canon, so it doesn’t even matter. I dunno what point I’m trying to make anymore, don’t mind me. I just…Priscilla is kind of not my cup of tea. Not that she’s supposed to be anyone’s cup of tea, but like, I don’t even like her as a bad guy. You know? Also, the W Tales seem to be fine now, so I guess that’s fixed. I don’t think my problem with Webkinz X is about the glitches, because I understand that part of the process was having the users test it, but the change in gameplay was pretty unnecessary. I’d rather just have the new look, and the “pets asking for stuff” was kinda unnecessary, especially since Zums were already a thing. See, pets acting like pets is kinda weird at this point, because Webkinz pets have kind of evolved to the point where they’re not really pets anymore? They’re more treated like citizens of Kinzville in their own right, I dunno. But the glitches I can live with. On an unrelated note, I’m starting to learn how to use Photoshop to use animations! I go to a tech school, so they have shops and one of the shops is Multimedia Communications (basically graphic arts, i.e. my first choice), so I’ll be doing a lot of animation there. So a Webkinz animation from me is a possibility in the future! :D

          • Pokekinz says:

Ohhh, okay, that makes more sense. And yeah, Priscilla isn’t exactly unique. And I think I have a problem with the glitches because it feels so untested, like they rushed it to get it out around Webkinz Day. I wish they had perfected it more before releasing it. :\ I don’t mind the pet requests so much, because they aren’t too often, and I think it actually kind of a cool idea with the filling the heart meter things for prizes. I think the phrases are weird though. I mean, “retail therapy”?? Although I probably also have less of a problem because I consider the virtual versions separate from my Webkinz characters. Cuz Shadow looks super weird online. And so do a lot of them, actually. And that’s awesome! I really like the idea of doing animations, but I don’t think I’m consistent enough to do it. In my art, I mean, I certainly wouldn’t be able to keep Orion’s pattern looking the same. :\ and I’d also need somebody to do voices. Or I’d have to do the voices, and everybody would pretty much sound like me trying to do their voices, which I think would be weird. Although I do really want to do comic book-type things, so that’s something I’m hoping to learn.

          • Fracktail says:

But “retail therapy” is so funny! It’s…I dunno how to describe it. It’s like, a weird mix between “trying to be cool” and “unrepentantly dorky”. Like, if they made our pets say tacky phrases from the 80’s, like “mondo” and “way cool” and stuff, then that would also be incredibly funny. And yeah, I feel you with the voices. Like, I have a very clear idea of what my Webkinz’s voices are like, but my vocal range can’t handle them (well, that’s my excuse) and I’d get someone else to do them, but I feel like I’d be super picky about what voice they’d have to do, I dunno. I think the only voice I could do successfully is Helix’s, and maybe Blossom’s. Animation is definitely something I’m going to do, though. I’m still learning the basics now, but rest assured, I will make cool animations and cartoons one day! And continue doing so for the rest of my life. It is a life goal of mine, haha. I think the consistency in animation is something that you learn over time, there might be techniques I’ll have to learn to do it (or I might just start getting better at it as I animate more). But with animation, you do the “key frames” first, and the transition frames between them afterwards. That way you don’t have to get all worked up over small details as long as you have the key poses down. Comics are cool, too! I think that’d be something I’d like to do in my free time, haha. And I think a comic book with your characters would be really cool! I’d love to read it. :D

          • Pokekinz says:

I guess it’s kinda funny, but I still think it’s annoying, because I don’t think anybody would really say that normally. I was also surprised by it when I first saw it (although it’s still better than Orion saying he’d look “cuter” with a different outfit). I guess it’s because I put so much into my Webkinz’s personalities. And I tried to do Shadow’s voice, and I actually got the pitch kinda close, but my voice isn’t… Gravelly enough, I guess. Shadow’s voice isn’t super rough, but it’s noticeable. I can do Orion sorta okay. But I can’t really make any of my female characters sound different (except Chipadea, because I can do a relatively good impression of a crazy Red Squirrel’s voice), which is annoying. Oh well. And I’d be super picky with their voices, too. And I’ve heard about the “key animation” thingy… I think I was watching something about the old “Garfield and Friends” show. It certainly does take a lot of people to do one cartoon. But with comics, I wouldn’t have to have anybody do voices, so that’s a plus I guess. Also consistency isn’t as important (although it’s still important). But I’m terrible at coming up with story-lines. :P Thanks, though!

          • Fracktail says:

You watched Garfield and Friends too?? That show was my childhood :’D And what kinda voice does Orion have? I think it’d be pretty chipper-sounding. Or something. (man, it’s hard describing voices to people…) And Chippy’s voice seems like it would be fun to do. :P I feel like Shadow’s would be hard to do because whenever I do low voices like that they always sound better to me than to the camera recording. :S Especially when you can hear the voice in your head. Like, Poseidon’s voice is really soft-spoken with kinda a weird throat thing going on (I told you I wasn’t good at explaining things!), like the throat thing is almost like Marvin the Martian but far less drastic. Maybe it’s not like that. Am I making any sense? I can’t explain it. But anyways, I have the voice perfect in my head but I try to do it in real life and IT DOESN’T WORK. GAH. But yeah, nobody really says “retail therapy” in real life. Maybe it’s a ‘Kinz thing? Like, what if Kinzville had its own culture and slang, or something. That’d be cool, I dunno.

          • Pokekinz says:

Orion’s voice, although I originally thought it would be, actually isn’t very high-pitched. I’d say it’s ever so slightly on the deep side…. But not really “deep”….. Er…. He often talks in this sort of sing-song voice, just because he likes to raise and lower the pitch he uses so much, sometimes for emphasis, and other times he just sorta does it. It’s not too much, though. And yesh, Shadow’s voice is haaaarrrrd. So’s Whitney’s, because I have a terrible fake British/English accent. And Winston, because he’s supposed to have that accent, too. Oh, and Missy’s hard to do, too, because she has a Southern accent. Which I’m also not good at. I can only do “me” accents, apparently. And if Kinzville has it’s own slang, Orion has some studying to do if he wants to be cool. And Shadow has yet more to annoy him. And none of my Webkinz speak the native Kinzville slang term language. :P

          • Fracktail says:

Haha, I’m sure a lot of Webkinz have to work on their Kinzville coolness factor :P But it would be pretty funny hearing them say that stuff, haha. Like, Shadow gritting his teeth being like, “you know, I’m still waiting on my retail therapy…” Or Helix being like, “Nyeh, rather cute I would look in an outfit of new!” I dunno, stuff like that cracks me up. :P (also, whenever I imagine Shadow’s voice it’s always a growly version of Mewtwo from the first movie. is this accurate?) And yeah, I think I see what you’re getting at with Orion’s voice. I’m thinking, like Daffy Duck pitch? (not the same voice, but just the vocal range. Is that making sense? oh man i am not good at explaining) And I can’t do accents either, because whenever I try to do an English accent it comes out Australian and whenever I do an Australian accent it comes out English. And when I try to exploit that to my advantage, it comes out sounding like James from Pokémon. It’s a losing battle, I tell ya. (Although, in my defense, it is a pretty good impression of James from Pokémon.) Whitney sounds like fun to do, though. She seems like her voice would be really peppy, or something. I dunno. And Missy seems fun too; I can actually do a pretty decent Southern accent, now that I think of it. Nothing stellar, but at least you can tell it’s supposed to be Southern, so…that’s a plus? It’s cool that your pets have accents, though. Mine don’t generally vary in their accents, or at least, I can’t attach their accents to any sort of label. :P (also, I messed up when explaining Poseidon’s voice. see, you know how Marvin the Martian has the weird throat thing? well, Poseidon has something like that, except Marvin’s throat thing is going on in the very back of your throat, and I do Poseidon’s throat thing like, the back/top of the throat right where your mouth starts turning into a throat. this is making less and less sense as I go on, darn it. Why is his voice so hard to explain…?!)
