As the creators of a game for children, we are dedicated to keeping our players safe online, so we understand the need for ad blockers that prevent annoying or potentially unsuitable advertising from popping up as you play.
Did you know that there is a way to allow Webkinz ads to show up that still blocks ads from other sites?
The advantage to allowing Webkinz ads to show up is that there are features and events in Webkinz World that are delivered through our ad system, including:
- Find the ads
- Visiting characters in the Park
- Watch and Wins
- And more!
Webkinz relies on advertising revenue to help us deliver the best possible product to our players. And because Webkinz complies with COPPA, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, the ads that we do show follow guidelines laid out by the government that restrict the types of marketing that can be displayed to children under 13. Want to know more about COPPA? You can read about it here.
To make sure that you’re getting the best Webkinz experience, you can ask your parents to add Webkinz to your ad blocker’s ‘whitelist’. A ‘whitelist’ allows ads from websites that YOU choose, while blocking ads from everywhere else.
Each ad blocker works a little differently. One of the most popular, Adblock Plus, makes it pretty simple to whitelist a site. Just go to webkinz.com, then right-click the large, red ABP stop sign icon in the top right corner. Scroll down to ‘Disable on webkinz.com’ and you’re done! Some other ad blockers will require you to go into their Preferences, select ‘Whitelist’ and paste webkinz.com into the list.
Of course, you need to get your parents’ permission before making any changes to the ad blocker on your computer. Be sure to talk to them about adding us to your whitelist so you never miss another event in Webkinz World!
I needed this for find the ads, visiting characters in the park, and watch and wins so I was glad to have figured this out in the past and have been doing it ever since :)
Same trouble here as nettne2. The only problem is with the video ads, and many times I find them very inappropriate for young children also. They slow the game tremendously, cause it to freeze, and just cause a lot of aggravation!!! Many times I have had to relog in 5 or 6 times just to play, not even try for the prize. I’ve updated flash player many times to no avail. Webkinz, please find a solution to this problem. This has been going on for too long. We would not need an ad blocking program if this was fixed. I have missed a few prizes I really wanted because I didn’t know the ad blocker was blocking items when I first started using it. I think its been well over a year, at the least. Please remedy.
I have found this problem with all the popular browsers and on all different computers. I tried them all.
Long running scripts are horrendous also!
It works much better with “ABP” app installed . we have had our accounts since 2006 and since all the upgrades ads are necessary to keep Our “Cost” as low as it is… yes the video ads are mostly inappropriate. we dont turn ABP off at all unless there is something we dont already have in our accounts (not to often) however when we must watch ad there lies the problem. we usually skip it because it is a hassle.
I can barely log in without running ad blocker and even if I do Adobe crashes. I understand running the ads to generate revenue but if the ads keep people from doing what they are there to do whats the point, Ads have been a source of frustration for me for years. Maybe run only static ads, keep the ad server from updating or running in portions of webkinz world keep the ad server from updating on clicks.
I did!
While I appreciate the need for advertising (and the $$$ revenue), the main reason I use AdBlockPlus while playing Webkinz is the speed – It is so much more improved! So, unless you eliminate ALL video ads (which slow things down to an excruciatingly PAINFUL snail’s pace), it’s unlikely I’ll be ‘whitelisting’ the site. Better to disable AdBlockPlus, log in, get your prize, log out, enable AdBlockPlus and log back in to continue playing pain-free.
Nice! I’m glad Ganz told us! Maybe I can try doing this a little later (if I don’t forget :P )
If you are confused by this ABP it is an app for “chrome” which helps keep unwanted ads from popping up and slowing down your browser. Just to let you know-if ABP is disabled on webkinz site it does work, but very poorly, time skips on game, everything moves very slowly and if you can get past that and get gift and then get do any other activity, before the webkinz site freezes up, you will be lucky. Also When ad blocker is disabled for webkinz site all kinds of ads on both pages come up and run constantly which then causes video ads to stop game running and freeze the site . FYI: Lucky charms ad covers whole site page. So,my suggestion is to get your prize, then close game window, turn ad blocker back ON, then close and reopen browser so the webkinz site works correctly again. you will have to turn it on and off to get each days gift. I have yet to see more then 2 ads that actually pertain to webkinz anyway so if you read Webkinz Newz you arent missing any ads. good luck, hope this clears things up a bit better.
I have ad blocker on for my Chrome and turned off on my FireFox. I can play Fire Fox and get those rewards like mayor in the park. Then I play the rest of my games on Chrome so it works faster. I can also play against my self . One account on Chrome and a different account on FireFox .
Thanks for being so specific and thanks to Ganz for the info. Lucky charms has been driving me crazy!
Thank you so much. Now I won’t miss out on any more good stuff! Y’all are fantastic.
Ah, I need to figure out how to do this… But I’m lazy. :P
It was easy – Log in to Webkinz, click on the stop sign at the right upper corner of the page and you’re done! Worked for me, hope you have the same results.
Well, there’s no stop sign icon… But I assume I have to download something for that to appear. I’d have to ask my parents about it.
How nice of Ganz to make sure we’re having a great experience on Webkinz world! :)
