Announcing… Webkinz Desktop!

As most of you know, browser support for the Flash plug-in will be ending in 2020. When this happens, you will no longer be able to start up Chrome or Firefox and play Webkinz. At the end of 2017 we made a small announcement that we were developing a desktop version of our mobile application to deal with the end of browser support. That application was completed, but we weren’t very happy with it. Screens designed for small phones don’t look great when blown up on a large monitor, and more importantly, what was going to happen to great sections like the Curio Shop, Wish Factory and the Clubhouse that aren’t in our mobile version? We knew we could do better. So we dug deep, got creative, and we can now show you this…

This is the new Webkinz Desktop.  This version includes everything that Webkinz has to offer – all the games, items, and features – because it IS Webkinz. Webkinz Desktop still uses Flash –  do not delete the plug-in! – but doesn’t require a browser to play the game.

And Webkinz has never looked better! You’ll be able to play Webkinz full screen to see your pet’s rooms even closer. Complete challenges, enjoy all of our events, join friends in the park – it’s all there!

Webkinz Desktop is nearing completion. To ensure that we haven’t missed anything, we will be running a small private beta test in about three weeks. Once that is complete, we will release the application to everyone! Webkinz Desktop is currently for Windows only, but we do plan to make a Mac version available soon after.

We are very excited for the release of Webkinz Desktop, as it will allow us to continue to provide a great Webkinz experience for years to come.

I would also like to know if MAC users will be able to still play? This is very sad news if we cant go on our webkinzs account until the MAC app is up and running.

This IS good news! I’m glad there won’t be any downsizing…losing things we are used to. :) My only wish is that Flash was gone. Will we even be able to download it onto a new computer? If we can’t what option will we have?

Gee…I’m a Mac user…what does that mean? I LOVE Webkinz World. Does this mean that I’ll no longer be able to play? Sadness….

Glad to hear you may have a work around. Personally I was hoping that you’d do away with Flash completely so that we’d be able to use the full system through the browsers on our mobile devices so that I would be able to access more of the system when I’m not home. I especially miss being able to do the challenges (both the ones that appear in our pet’s rooms and the ones in the village, fulfill friend requests and do the special events that show up in the park and clubhouse). I have a little pc notebook but that’s just another couple of pounds to lug around in addition to my iPad (which has my books and knitting apps!)

I hope we see that soon. I’d love to go on ww on my Galaxy tablet and access every part of it! The app is ok, there’s just not much to do on it though.

Will it work on my Kindle Fire? I do hope so, as I want to stop having to take my laptop on holiday. It is heavy, and awkward at airport security.

I am so grateful the game isn’t folding!!! I hope the Mac version is just as good as Windows, though there are fewer Mac users. I also hope Ganz finds a way to give the option to minimize the full screen window – I have a 29inch iMac and doing anything (other than watching a movie) full screen is just way too overwhelming…

just something of note, i realise you have full screen currently planned but will there be an option for a windowed mode at some point? I like to multitask webkinz with my browsers, since i’m on many other websites and doing multiple things with the computer. Even if the resolution of the program were to not change, not having the ability to peek out of the program would be a little troublesome. At least have it be an option at some point down the line, many programs have it as a feature. That said, glad you’re on this.
