Plumpy’s Sweet Idea
Chapter 3: What’s the Newz?
Plumpy knew there was only one thing to do: visit Webkinz Newz to talk about advertising with her old boss, Sam McWoof. She packed a dozen of her candy baskets into a large tote bag (nothing like goodies to sweeten the deal). She shrugged on her yellow raincoat and put the hood over her fluffy blue hair. It was, unsurprisingly, still raining steadily outside. “I’ll be back in time for dinner,” Plumpy called to Wiggles. “Hrmf Merf!” he called back, his mouth full of fudge. Plumpy hopped aboard the bus into Kinzville. She sat next to a very grumpy looking Miss Biscuits. On impulse, Plumpy handed her a basket of candy. “Something to brighten your day,” she smiled. Miss Biscuits’ eyes grew wide. “It’s beautiful,” she gasped, admiring the shiny blue lollipops, chocolate covered strawberries, fudge squares and lavender saltwater taffy. Miss Biscuits nibbled on the fudge. “This is scrumptious, Plumpy,” she said, smiling for the first time in days. When Plumpy exited the bus in front of Webkinz Newz Headquarters, the passengers waved and wished her a wonderful day. She had passed out all of her candy baskets on the drive over. As Plumpy walked into the building, she immediately ran into Ella McWoof, Sam’s daughter. “Plumpy!” Ella said, hugging her. “I’m so glad you’re here! You have to help me. My dad is being a total…DAD. I’m, like, SO excited to throw a welcome party for the new Webkinz in town and he’s all ‘why do we have to do that, Ella?’ And I’m all ‘because, Dad! Everyone has been so grumpy and a party is just what we need.’ Plus, we should welcome new friends, right Plumpy?” “I think it’s just a lot of work for no reason,” said a very grouchy voice, from down the hall. It was Sam. He stepped into the foyer. “What do YOU think, Plumpy? And why are you here, anyway?” Plumpy took a deep breath. What should she say?
Idea 1:
Plumpy should definitely tell Sam that Ella’s on the right track – welcoming new Webkinz isn’t a waste of time, it’s a super-great idea! (And there’s no place better than a party to introduce her new business, right?)
Idea 2:
It’s always smart to stay on your boss’ good side (even your ex-boss). So Plumpy should offer to help Ella herself – between the two of them, they can make the ultimate welcome party. (And maybe Sam will cheer up and offer Plumpy a free ad?)

Idea #1 will offer the best return for Plumpy’s goal. Working together on an altruistic project can help to restore a good relationship between Ella and her dad, creating good memories and making them less grumpy/stressed. I’m sure that they would be happy to hire Plumpy to make gift bags for the guests at the party. Look how goodies cheered up the people on the bus!
