Design Tips: Creating a Natural Looking Garden

Summer is just around the corner and many of you may be thinking about creating the perfect outdoor space for your pets to play. We asked Hailey and Elwin if they had any tips on how to create a natural looking garden and this is what they had to say:

ELWIN: If you add more than one of the same type of tree to your garden, try rotating each one in a different direction so they don’t look identical.

HAILEY: That is a great tip to making a natural looking garden! For example, look at the first image of the three trees below. The trees look identical in the first image, but in the second image they have been rotated in different directions making them look like 3 different trees! You really notice the difference when you look at their trunks.

ELWIN: The same trick applies to the Flagstone Path Tiles. Look at them lined up together facing the same direction. Now compare them to the second picture where each tile has been randomly rotated.

HAILEY: It’s amazing how much more natural they look when they are not all facing the same direction!

ELWIN: Here’s a tip on how to make a natural looking pumpkin patch. Instead of lining up the Giant Pumpkin Patch pumpkins facing the same direction, try randomly rotating them too!

HAILEY: You can even mix in a few regular Pumpkin Patch pumpkins to make it look like the pumpkins are in various stages of growth. Both types of Pumpkin Patch pumpkins are available in the Decorations category of the WShop (under “outdoors”)

Thanks Hailey and Elwin! Remember, to rotate an item, click on it while you are in EDIT mode in your pet’s room then use the arrow buttons to rotate your item. Click OK when you are done and you item will be placed back in your room.

Don’t try to click to rotate the real vegetable seeds. It will freeze and you will need to change rooms to be able to go back and work in your garden or designing.
