Groundhog Poetry

I was so excited to meet THE Groundhog today that I wrote this poem about him!

Ode to a Groundhog

By Roberta Rabbit

On the second of February every year,

A face pops out and turns to peer,

Around to see if he can spot,

Whether a shadow he has got.

The groundhog gives us hope for spring,

And whether sunshine soon shall bring,

Flowers, birds and warmer days,

Or more of winter’s cool, dull greys.

If he sees his shadow they say,

He’ll turn around and go away,

Down his hole. Then things are bleak,

For winter’s here for six more weeks.

But if he sees no shadow there,

Rejoice and for the spring prepare,

For brighter skies are on the way,

When we can go outside and play!

Nice Roberta. But I also like winter. And for me, it really doesn’t matter because it already feels like spring! Seriously!
Anyway, to anyone who’s reading this, Happy Groundhog Day!

It feels like summer here! And it was freezing in February 2011. I love winter and haven’t gotten a single snow… :’(

      • Bluepeso says:

I haven’t seen you in awhile! I am so glad to see you! And I had only like 1 snowfall that had enough snow! The rest was just flurries! BTW I know you sent me a friend request before once but I denied because I am not allowed to! So Sorry!

        I’ve missed you! :D
The weather is almost the same where I live also. Last year it was FREEZING and so far this winter has been unnaturally warm. It hit 26 degrees Fahrenheit yesterday so I’m hoping it will snow soon!
P.S. Very nice poem Roberta! You’re great at writing poems!

Cool beans, but i am not a real fan of poetry. But some verses didn’t really go together. But what you like, is what you like Roberta.

I agree, nice poetry! I don’t like how she made Winter seem like a unlikable season and spring better because Winter is the best season and spring is the least likable (Atleast to me and my sister). In Winter I’m active and always outside in the snow while spring and summer I just sit inside.
@gentledreamer The verses went perfectly together. Not all poems have to rhyme you know.

I like it! But I hate the fact that there are 6 more weeks of winter, lol.

            Actually,
I don’t mind the 6 more weeks of winter. We got a lot of snow. But I didn’t get a chance to go snowboarding or skiing yet. So I really want it to snow again so I can! :D ;) :D

            *Luv from LillyLuvie*

          • TheGameStar says:

Yeah. But here in Pennsylvania, WE HAVE NO SNOW, lol. I really want to go outside for recess again. And I miss those days where you could just have some fresh air during spring. :(

Snowboarding and skiing sounds really FUN
lillyluvie! I only went skiing one time. :( I wish I
            could go again! ::::: ;) :::::::

I agree, TheGameStar, I don’t like winter either. I don’t see how anyone could not like Spring! Spring is my favourite season. But that bit in the poem “more of winter’s cool, dull greys” reminded of bit in a book I read, about the cold, winter sea reflecting in Martin’s grey eyes.

        • Tjsie says:

I’m totally with you. I love winter cause of the snow, and the fact that there are no bugs, snakes, lizards, ect. out side to annoy me (or scare me, or creep me out) and, well, because of Christmas!

          • Bluepeso says:

I agree! Bugs just creep me out! But I still love Summer. I’m a girl BTW so obviously I don’t like bugs much.

hey gentledreamer! i agree. some verses just dont mix well. and i also dont really like poetry. stories are funner. but whatever roberta says goes for her…

    • Bluepeso says:

I don’t really like poetry either. BTW I hope the groundhog WILL see his shadow because I want more chances to play in the snow because I only had like 1 snowfall that had enough snow!
