More fun facts about the Duck!

It’s me, the Duck, again with some more quacky facts about ducks.

You probably know that ducks are water birds. Did you know that our bodies are perfectly designed for life on rivers and lakes? My feet are webbed, which means they have skin attaching the toes. When I swim, my webbed feet act just like a scuba diver’s flippers, pushing through the water. My legs are also positioned way back on my body. They let me push my whole body forward, giving me a lot of momentum in the water.

Have you ever heard the term ‘like water off a duck’s back’? Because we spend so much time in the water, our feathers have an oily covering that makes them waterproof, otherwise we would be weighed down by the water and unable to swim and fly.
