Webkinz Next: Changes to Gardening

Since the release of Gardening in Webkinz Next, it has consistently been one of the best ways to earn KinzCash for players. Plant your crops, wait a few days, collect your crops, sell them for fun and profit. We love gardening so much that we added the Farmer’s Market to give you the ability to earn even more KinzCash selling your crops.

Over the years, some players have taken gardening to an extreme, filling multiple properties with nothing but crops and earning so much KinzCash that our own internal alert systems meant to prevent cheating have thought that there was a problem when there wasn’t. Simply put, the economy of Webkinz was not designed for this much KinzCash to be earned this easily.

We have therefore made some changes to how gardening works:

1) If you have 500 or more crops (growing plants), either planted or in your dock, you will no longer be able to purchase additional seeds from the W-Shop. This is a “soft cap” on gardening. If you have more than 500 crops planted right now, it won’t affect them in any way. Also, you can continue to purchase your three seeds per day from the Farmer’s Market, even if you have more than 500. This cap does not apply to harvested food/crops.

2) Plants can now dry out. You may now see a Watering Can over your crop. If you leave the plant without watering it, it will not continue to grow. When you do water the crop, it will return to its bright color and be ready to move to the next stage the next day. To be 100% clear, your crops can never “die”. All being dried out does is delay the growth cycle. Also, crops planted in the Farmer’s Plot will never become dried out. So, we’ve added a little work to gardening that rewards players who tend to their crops daily.

3) We’ve removed the notice for when your crops are expired, as long as you have at least one soil in your dock. This a much-requested feature from dedicated farmers, and we are happy to add it, while ensuring that players who are new to gardening know why their crop disappeared.

We have more plans to continue to improve gardening, such as adding weeding, bountiful harvests and rewarding players for dedicated gardening by giving their plants additional harvests beyond the standard 10. Finally, we are considering ways of allowing players to earn additional Farmer’s Plots.

Gardening has long been a popular feature in Webkinz World and we will continue to aim to make it fun and profitable, while ensuring that it is a balanced part of Webkinz’ gameplay.

well i am not one that has 500 plus seeds growing. I am not happy about the ‘pretty little watercan’ over my plots. it now makes me more apt to not garden. I had things on routine and was able to keep track of it all, but now it is unorganized and that makes my OCD very unhappy.

The new update is a disaster. After logging in, I have to wait almost a full minute before I can feed a baby, harvest a crop, etc. Why is there such a delay? And it happens every time I switch properties! The season icon won’t let you access it either. Harvesting crops is going to drive me crazy because there is notification that a crop needs watering until you visit the property. So now I have crops popping up at all times. No way there is enough time to keep up. Way to go Webkinz! Your are successful at reducing any kinzcash earnings from farming; which used to be fun.

I’m having an issue with my garden with this new update. They all are not growing together like it used too. I do have some are ready to harvest and some still need to bloom. Is this a glitch you have to fix? How many people really water the yard. We have an automatic sprinkler system. The only thing my dad does is clean out the sprinkler heads or replaces them if needed. This new way of doing this is not a realistic thing.

I checked the respective thread from 24th July 2024 again, which was about “The Secret to Filling Pet Care Meters Faster”, and back then, those things were mentioned: Feeding a hungry pet (a pet is hungry when its Hunger Meter is at less than 51%)
Playing a game with your pet in the Arcade
    Exercising your pet or
Crafting a food or item plus – the baby activities. So the photo at the photo booth must be a fairly new addition, and still now, the main problem is that those activities which help to fill the pet meter count either 2 or 4 points, and therefore, it is still not possibly, to actively fill the pet’s heart when you do them all. As I said back in July, it does not help at all if it fills the heart up to a certain point but then I still have to wait for a request (or two, if one minute after 24 hours, as we said), to fill the heart completely.

If you happen to log in more than once a day, you would both avoid the double drop and be able to get the remaining points needed to get the equivalent of one pet request.

I have found this out (avoid double drop if logging on again), which is why most days, I actually postpone the school day and log on again very late at night in order to avoid being down to 50% the next day. But, even if it sounds unbelievable, sometimes I do have other things on than logging onto Next a couple of times per day ;.) And of course my pets would all be happy by the second time I log on because I am a good pet mum and sit around waiting for each request the first time round. :-)

It is not an easy way to earn kinzcash. The Webkinz economy has inflated prices, so players need to be clever in figuring out ways to earn kinzcash in an efficient manner. If you have real life responsibilities, you have limited time to play. If an arcade game takes 10-15 minutes of play time for a small amount of kinzcash, of course players looked to other methods to earn money. The farming is a smart investing idea. You can only harvest 10 times, so to earn back the money of the crop from the Wshop, you have to harvest 5 times just to earn back the money you had from purchasing the seeds. Then you make a profit from the other five harvests. Bonuses such as the Farmer’s Market and earning ribbons at the Kinzville Academy allow you to increase your profits. Punishing all of the players with a cap because of a few who have likely spent months building their farms to levels that allow them to make so much kinzcash is very frustrating. If it helps to “increase the difficulty” by forcing players to weed and water, fine. Having a cap seems really frustrating, especially for those who have large farms and found joy in maintaining them. The Webkinz economy has very expensive items available in the W-Shop and Curio Shop. Unlike Classic, there are very limited ways to earn extra kinzcash to keep up with seasonal themes and Curio Shop rare items. In Classic we have the Magical Forest, multiple daily wheels, selling gems at curio shop, the employment office, and Daily Activities that help boost our kinzcash. On Next, we have occasional season prizes, wheel of wow, when you win Wacky Bingoz, selling extra items, selling extra gems and fish, and farming. We need more ways to earn kinz cash on Next so we don’t have to spend hours playing limited arcade games or using our tokens to try to have enough kinzcash for wanting to decorate our homes and dress our pets. If the servers were not expecting to have players earn so much kinzcash, maybe the cost of everything should be lowered. Just a thought.

Wow. That’s a LOT of comments to slog through. I haven’t even finished reading them all. Well, you can’t say that WW players aren’t a passionate bunch! I was just going to comment (before I saw so many other comments), that I logged on and saw these cute little watering cans over my plants, so I clicked them all while my pet went for a swim, and I was wondering what this new thing was all about. Thank you for posting this article to explain it all. I don’t mass garden, so it’s not freaking me out the way it seems to be for some of the other players. I think that it was intended to be a cute interactive activity for Next players. THANK YOU for removing the step where we need to “claim” the soil. This is a BIG time saver during the harvest. To all of the players looking for new ways to make money in Next, you can sell your excess materials, if you don’t want to craft with them. Use your pet that has level 5 negotiation skill from the KVA ribbons, and you can earn much needed KC. I just sold all of my overstock of soil, hardwood, and slag (I like to keep 200 of each on hand for crafting) and earned 742 KC. Also, Farmer Will is awesome, and has changed the game for me. My family knows not to interrupt me on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, until I have sold my veggies at the Farmers Market for a premium price. LOL! I try to keep at least 50 of every veggie on hand so I am ready when Farmer Will asks for it. The only difficulty with this is when Farmer Will “forgets” to offer asparagus seeds (or whatever) for several weeks, I wind up with a shortage. Keep an inventory chart, Farmer Will! Rotate your supply! Thank you to the Ganz team for all that you continue to work on to make the game fun, interactive and exciting for everyone!

And can we all pause a moment to say THANK YOU for the search feature in the WShop?!? This will make finding specific items for pet requests SO much quicker!! Hooray!!!

Sally I asked before but you didn’t answer. Is the gardening going to change on classis as well? I sure hope you answer. I’m getting worried. Thanks

I’ve been playing Classic shortly after its beginning and gardening was not a happy thing for the grandkids since they couldn’t go on everyday. They rarely got to see their gardens in bloom unless ‘you know who’ did it for them. Gardening was a very sore point with everyone so they took away the popups, watering and digging up the dead plants. Now we see it here??? I don’t understand Webkinz thinking on doing that to WW Next. I eventually started liking Next because it didn’t have constant errors like Classic. “Why are you going backwards? Webkinz already has a long history of feedback and you’re getting it again.” Why don’t you Punish (or as you want to say, ‘Reward’) the players with over 500 crops and leave the the other crops alone. If those crop “rewards” are what we want, too, then we’ll get 500 crops to water and dig … Same with the Family Points, why couldn’t you have let those be. That was one thing I really enjoyed – the points and checking out others’ unique babies. I have no reason to even visit others now other than it its in the Events. And, too bad crib babies couldn’t be turned so we could check all their features). Please, please, please don’t go through the old route, we’ve already shown you what works and doesn’t. … Yes, too bad all the negative feedback blinds the happiness of having search in the W-Shop. … It’s also been noted by some that daily activities take too long as is, I rarely get to decorate or play and actually relax in Next. I wish there was one week between monthly events to enjoy Next. I gave up on Classic a couple of times either to take a break or decide to give up completely. I’m starting to feel ill and sorry already that I even started playing Next.
