Roberta’s Homemade Holiday: Raccoon Puppet

Here is a simple hand puppet craft that little kids will really appreciate. I’m making mine for my little cousin! What you need: -          Brown paper bag -          Black construction paper -          Brown construction paper -          Googly eyes -          Black crayon -          Glue -          Scissors What you do: Flip a paper bag upside down. The flap formed by the bottom of the bag will be your raccoon’s face. Fold over a piece of brown construction paper and cut out two semi-circles, about 2” across. Fold over a piece of black construction paper and cut out two smaller semi-circles, about 1” across. Glue the black semi-circles inside the brown ones and glue them along the top of the flap at the bottom of your paper bag to form your raccoon’s ears. Fold over a piece of black construction paper and cut out a black rectangle, about 2.5” long. With scissors, round off the corners of one side of the rectangles. Glue the two rectangles on either side of the bottom of the bag, below the ears, so that the flat side … Read more

Meriwether’s Update

Meriwether

It’s Meriwether St. Bernard again, readers, and I must say that Fluffington’s behaviour has certainly improved since the last time I chatted with you. Fluffington told me he’s been doing a lot of thinking about how he has been treating others this season and that he wanted to invite me for tea to make up for losing his temper last week. Well, readers, you know how I just LOVE tea. And teacups. Have I ever mentioned my love of teacups? But I digress. Well, I went over to Fluffington’s and I must say, his mansion was absolutely overflowing with holiday spirit! Fluffington seemed shocked how much I liked it. He said he had really thought the decor wasn’t grand enough and he was sure I would look down my nose at it. I told him that if there was ever a time to cut loose and have some fun, the holidays were it! You know, readers, even I’ve been known to let down MY hair at the holidays! Why, you should have seen me cut a rug back in my day. As I told Fluffington, I thought the place looked just lovely … Read more

A ‘Kinz Christmas Party

Nibbles

Nibbles Hippo here, reporting on the ‘Kinz Christmas party! Cowabelle brought a delicious plate of sugar cookies to share. She seems SO much happier these days.  She couldn’t stop talking about the soup kitchen. It’s great to see the old Cowabelle back. Roberta’s picture frames were quickly filled with silly pictures we took and printed today. My favorite? Sparky with Christmas ornaments hanging from his ears. Salley brought her famous salsa and a whole lotta chips. Let’s just say I think I’m good to not eat until Christmas. A tired looking Molly arrived with her little sister Millie in tow. Apparently Millie BEGGED to come to the party. Surprisingly, Millie was actually pretty fun to have around. And when we had a popcorn-catching contest (in which players catch popcorn in their mouths), Millie was actually the best at it! Sparky had ornaments hung from his ears. And played video games. A lot. Stoogles also played video games, and then turned up the music and told us all we had to dance. He was the judge. According to him, he’s the best dancer. Alex was happy to be exempt from the dance competition … Read more

Alex’s Secret Santa

AlexT

OK, everyone. So Christmas is almost here and I decided to get Molly a special gift. It wasn’t easy, because of the whole sprained ankle thing, but I’m almost one hundred percent better, so I convinced my mom to take me to the W Shop. I got Molly a hair clip that she said she wanted. And I wrote her this poem (I can’t believe I’m sharing this):   Merry Christmas, dear Molly,I hope your holiday is great,I hope you have eggnog in your cup,And cookies on your plate. These gifts are for you,I hope you like them a lot,I’d sign my name here,But I’d rather not.   And then I wrapped the gifts up and attached the note and went to Molly’s house. I left the gifts on her front porch. I don’t think anyone saw me drop them off (I hope not). Now I just have to wait and see what she thinks. Maybe one day I’ll tell her that I’m her secret Santa. Maybe not.

Fluffington’s Dining Room Gets Ready for Christmas

By Elwin Onto to the dining room! Fluffington seemed pretty happy with our bathroom makeover so we’re getting down to the final couple of rooms. Fluffington’s dining room is fairly understated. He’s got a lovely marble floor set off by a cool-hued striped wallpaper. He’s also got a nice seating area by the fireplace. We should try to play that up.  And of course, being Fluffington’s place, there is a lot of gold and purple.                       We wanted to tie in our decorations to the color scheme that Fluffington already had and we thought that the High Class Christmas Tree would be perfect with its violet shades. We set it off with the Violet Persian Rug that we had removed from the living room. We used the Jolly Holiday Dining Table to introduce some Christmas colors into the room, but we tied in the cool tones by surrounding the table with the True Blue Dining Chairs. The Elegant Ice Fountain creates a lovely focal point in the corner, and the King’s Feast Dining Table offers an extra serving area, as does the Treats for Santakinz table. Guests can help … Read more

Alex Tiger, Tutor Extraordinaire!

Hi, it’s Alex. My paw is really feeling a lot better now. Thanks everyone, for your good wishes. That really helped. I just got back from Sparky’s house. We worked really hard to get ready for our big geography test. Poor Sparky. He hasn’t exactly been the best student this month. I know he’s been thinking more about Christmas than school, but just because the holidays are coming up doesn’t mean you can slack off. I think after he did so badly on his spelling test the other day it kind of hit home. Don’t tell him I said this, but even though he thinks he’s really good at spelling, he’s actually terrible! One of us usually proofreads his stories when he posts on here so you may not have noticed it before. Anyway, we usually cram really hard for our spelling tests but Sparky didn’t bother at all last time and he did terribly. I think he’s ready for the geography test though. We made review sheets and quizzed each other with flash cards. Sometimes when Sparky and I study we pretend to be playing Quizzy’s Corner and that it makes it much more fun. … Read more

Cowabelle and the Christmas Spirit

Cowabelle Volunteer

Hey everyone, Cowabelle here. OK, so first off, I think I ought to apologize. For what? For being wrong about what makes Christmas so special. Remember how I’ve been saying that it’s all about the presents? That all I want is…well…everything? I was so wrong. When I got home from school today, I had a HUGE fight with my mom. Mom basically told me that I was going to help her volunteer in the soup kitchen tonight, but I said “absolutely not!” I DID have plans. I was going to go back to the Curio Shop and show Sparky which rare theme I liked best. My mom FREAKED out and said that I’ve been spending every waking minute at a store or looking at catalogues and magazines, or talking about gifts or making my list. Which, now that I think about it, might be true. But at the time, I was mad. SO mad. I told my mom that I just wanted to have a good Christmas, and I was into the holiday spirit. She said that if I thought being greedy was part of the holiday, she felt bad … Read more

Molly and Holly

Molly1

Okay, I know I’ve been doing a lot of complaining about my cousins lately. (Sorry about that, by the way.) But today I met another cousin for the very first time and you know what? I think I’m going to like this one just fine. My Aunt Maria arrived today and she brought along a very special package. It was my brand new baby cousin, Holly! She is absolutely adorable!  Aunt Maria let me hold her and she is so tiny and pink! At first she was sleeping and Aunt Maria said not to feel bad if she started crying when she woke up. She said babies do that. But after a little while, Holly opened her eyes and guess what? She gave me a huge smile! Aunt Maria said she must really like me! Then Aunt Maria said that she had to go into the kitchen and start working on her famous chocolate pecan pie because we were going to have that for dessert. And then she asked if I wouldn’t mind babysitting Holly for her while she baked. Oh my gosh! That is a pretty big responsibility, you know, but … Read more

Roberta’s Homemade Holidays: Cookies for Ms. Cowoline!

CookieMix

Ms. Cowoline isn’t just the principal at the Kinzville Academy –she’s also my best friend’s mom. I decided to make her a delicious jar of cookie mix. It’s so easy – and everyone knows, Ms. Cowoline LOVES cookies. What you need: 1 quart jar with lid, 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1 cup oats, 1 cup chocolate chips, ½ cup brown sugar, ½ cup white sugar, gift tag, ribbon, circle of fabric What you do: Put the ingredients in the jar, in the order listed above. On the gift tag, write: “Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix – to make, add ½ cup butter melted, 1 egg, 1 tsp. vanilla extract. Bake at 350 until golden. Enjoy!” Attach the gift tag with a ribbon. If you’ve got the kind of jar with a two-piece lid, you can put a piece of fabric in between the two pieces for decoration. Feel free to add stickers or foam shapes to your jar.

A Few of our Favorite Things

Ella_McWoof_Laptop

By Ella McWoof Happy holidays, readers! Christmas is almost here and so today I am interviewing the residents of Kinzville to find out their favorite things about the holidays. Let’s hear what they had to say. Ella McWoof: Here’s our good friend, Arte Fact. Arte, what is your favorite thing about Christmas. Arte: Well, Ella, I just love being able to help my customers find that perfect gift for someone special on their list when they come into the Curio Shop. I also love spending time with my nephew, Sparky. He’s a great kid who always works hard and does his best. I know sometimes he gets a little off track, but I know he can pull it together by Christmas. EM: Thanks, Arte! Now here’s Roberta Rabbit. Roberta, can you tell us your favorite thing about Christmas? Roberta: Huh? Oh, sorry – I’m kind of exhausted right now. Christmas? Yeah, I really like making crafts at Christmas. At least, I always used to. For some reason right about now I’m not really feeling it, but generally, yeah, I like making crafts at Christmas. EM: Okay. Interesting. Ms Cowoline, your favorite … Read more

Molly’s Family Christmas: Cousin Trouble

MollyDrawing

I can’t believe this! I was out gift shopping at the W Shop with Cowabelle and when I got home I went up to my room to hide the present I got for Millie. As I was walking up the stairs I was sure that I could hear some giggling from somewhere nearby, but there is so much chaos in this crazy house right now I didn’t think anything of it. Then I walked into my room and I couldn’t believe what I saw. I looked up and at the same moment saw another awful caricature of me scribbled all over my wall, I heard peals of laughter coming from the doorway. I spun around and there were Bobby and Robby standing there, doubled over laughing, with a couple of markers in their hands. And the worst part? Millie was peeking around the doorjamb, trying not to giggle. How can this be happening to me? I thought Christmas was supposed to be a happy time!

Roberta’s Homemade Holidays: Snowglobe Craft

SnowGlobe

Unfortunately I don’t have any glass blowing equipment in my craft room, but I do have this idea for a cute craft that creates the look of a snow globe using an acetate sheet for the glass. What you need: -          Light blue construction paper -          Brown construction paper -          White construction paper -          Green construction paper -          Red construction paper -          Black construction paper -          Crayons -          Clear acetate sheet -          Small plate -          Scissors -          Glue stick (that dries clear) What you do: Use your small plate to trace one circle onto the light blue paper and one circle onto the clear acetate sheet. Cut out both circles. Use your construction paper, crayons and glue to create a winter scene on your blue circle (I made a simple snowman.) Cut out small white pieces of paper and glue them all around your scene. From your brown paper cut out a trapezoid, a rectangle that is wider on one side. Glue the trapezoid to the bottom of your blue circle. Spread your clear acetate circle with a thin circle of glue and stick it over top of your blue circle, making sure the edges line up.   … Read more

A Minor Emergency…

Alex'sLeg

Alex here with some bad news: I’m stuck on the couch for the next three days. I was helping my mom shovel the driveway this morning, when I slipped on some ice. I tried to get up, but my ankle hurt waaaay too much. Mom was so worried. She took me right over to Dr. Quack’s clinic (he even brought out a wheelchair to help me get inside). He took an x-ray of my ankle, and told me that (thankfully) it’s not broken. It’s pretty badly sprained, though. Dr. Quack wrapped it in a bandage and gave me some crutches to help me get around. He said I should be feeling much better in about a week. Can you believe my bad luck?  Mom says that I can stay home from school until the holidays start, but I LOVE school – so I think I’ll try to keep going. The only good thing is that while I’ve been sitting here, I’ve come up with an amazing gift for Molly. What is it? You’ll have to wait and see!

Nibbles’ Trip

Nibbles

Know how I was really mad at Plumpy for taking me to see my relatives at Christmas instead of just staying here like we always do? We-ell…it seems that maybe I over-reacted, just a tad. Plumpy told me about all the awesome stuff she’s got planned. We’re going to see my grandparents, my cousins – even my aunts and uncles. Wiggles is going to come with us, so that’ll be amazing. And Sir Rhineholt, Plumpy’s friend, will be meeting us down there. So…overall, maybe it’s not so bad. I really love visiting my gran and gramps, and my cousins are so much fun. Can you believe it? I might actually be getting excited about this trip! What’s your favorite thing about visiting your relatives?

A Message from the Awesome Reindeer!

Reindeer122

Hey, it’s the Reindeer again. Remember me – the Pet of the Month for December? I was going to tell you about some of the cool stuff that I used to make my awesome video about my favorite season, winter. When we were planning the video, we hit the eStore to buy props because I know they always have really epic items. The video is all about me daydreaming about my favorite winter activities while I’m sitting in class, so when I saw the cool Winter Vacation Window, I thought we could use that as the window in the classroom to capture the magical effect of watching the snow fall (is there anything better?) I also HAD to get the Webkinz Hockey Jersey. Hockey is my favorite sport and as soon as I saw it I realized that a hockey scene would be perfect in the video. The Goofy Snowball Hill is, like, the most epic thing I’ve ever seen – how cool is that? I love playing in the snow in the winter, so just imagine how much fun I will have with an awesome snow hill like that! You might have … Read more
