Alex Tiger: Not a Fan of Halloween

Uh hi, it’s Alex Tiger. I’m feeling kind of overwhelmed. We’ve been talking an awful lot about Halloween at school and outside of school. In fact, it seems to be about all anyone can talk about right now. It’s just, well, I’m kind of embarrassed to admit this but… well, I don’t really like Halloween.

I like the candy part – that’s about the only part that makes it worth it. But I don’t like dressing up and I don’t like it when other people dress up in scary costumes. What’s so fun about being scared? I hate being scared. And when you go out on Halloween night, there are all these creepy looking costumes and you can’t tell who anybody is.

And the worst part – even worse than the costumes – is all the frightening decorations. There are skulls and ghosts and bats and creepy crawlies all over the place. And some of those Jack-o-lanterns have terrifying faces. I don’t see why people have to make them look so nasty. I don’t mind some of the funny ones.

I just don’t understand what is so great about this holiday. Why would anyone WANT to be scared? Can someone please explain it to me? I’m really not looking forward to it but I can’t say anything to my friends. I’m sure they’re just going to think I’m a big baby.

Alex, I also don’t like being scared. But everyone is afraid of something. Your friends will understand…as for dressing up be creative. I know there is someone in your life you look up to and want to be like. Perhaps you can dress in clothes that make you look like that person. For instance if you look up to Arti You can wear a bomber jacket like he wears and similar clothing. I know from doing some adventures that some of your friends are afraid of water and cave crocodiles. They will understand. Don’t be afraid to share your fears. With your good Friends close by Halloween will be a fun time for you.
    Good luck,

    Hi alex.

me and my friends dress up in stuff that is not scary and hold hands.
So when you go trick or treat you can hold there hands to.
    It makes me happy :)
    hope this helps

theirs nothing to be scared on Halloween (as long as you don’t trick or treat alone anyway), its all fake, the costumes, decorations, everything except CANDY :)! People like to be scared because it brings thrills and excitement, plus the decor is just for the spirit of Halloween.the holiday originally came from hollows eave (look it up). maybe when your older you’ll like it too Alex.

it will be all right. you can go to the store and buy candy an not go out for the holiday.

  5. akorn says:

I feel the same way, Alex.
I don’t like to be scared either! I like to pretend and dress up but vampires, ghosts, skeletons and monsters scare me especially at night. Some times the spooky noises coming from people’s houses are too scary. I don’t like when people, jump out at me.
I do like to wear a funny costume, get treats and have fun with my friends.

I think that the bullies in the town try to scare you just to get A hoot out of it! trust me alex I think you should go out and dress up cuz its fun. but I have to admit there are some REALLY SCARY costumes out there!!!!!!!!!!

  7. DancinDog says:

I’m sorry to hear that Alex! You shouldn’t be scared of the costumes. You wouldn’t be scared of a pair of pants or a shirt, right? Think of those costumes as blinged out clothing items. As for your fear of telling your friends, you shouldn’t be scared of telling them. Odds are, they feel the same way as you!

I am totally scared of Halloween too!

Don’t worry Alex, everyone has their likes and dislikes. I’m sure you and your friends can work something out. Mabye they can even help you overcome your fear!

      Dear Alex Tiger,
Don’t worry! I don’t like Halloween that much either! I like dressing up but I don’t like the scary decorations. When ever my mom is driving in the car by a house with scary decorations I always hide my face. So don’t worry, other people are scared of Halloween too. I’m sure if you tell your friends how you feel and why you don’t like Halloween they’ll understand.
      Hope this helped.

hi, i wanted to add to what i say above-if your friends are mean to you about being scared, they aren’t your the kind of friends you want to be with. and if they decide not to be your friend(which they won’t) that’s their loss.

Sorry, but I disagree. I love Halloween! Its my favorite Holiday! I love being scared too. And my family puts up scary AND funny decorations. I have a party each year too.
But, I can see why some people find it scary. Because of the masks and stuff like that. But I just really like Halloween. :D

I totally understand why Alex wouldn’t like it. I am not allowed to anything for Halloween. We normally forget that it’s even Halloween. I don’t like the decorations people put up and I don’t even really think that it should be called a holiday.

            ~Hi :) :D ;)

          • SwedishLatte says:

Alex, it’s totally okay to not like the decorations! :) You have your opinion, and that’s your choice. Other people really enjoy it, and that’s their choice. I agree some of the decorations are rather…gross. But some are really cool looking too. I understand that you don’t like being scared, and I’m the same way. But maybe the day before, go around the neighborhood and look at all the decorations and ask your friends what they’ll be wearing so you’ll know what to expect and won’t be scared.

Think of a really happy, cheerful marching song. Play it in your head while trick or treating. Don’t whistle it out loud though, that make it worse

        • community girls says:

          play the song HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :D :D :D :D

oh and also Alex, your friends wont think that, and if they do they are not your real friends. if that does happen find new friends to be with

          • Boston ROCKs...copy that says:

No, not the birthday song…classic rock is good though. I know one that always makes me happy, and it is as old as dirt “…why do you build me up? (build me up) Buttercup…I need you (I need you)… Build me up (build me up) buttercup, don’t break my heart…”
Ahhh, I love that song. Build me up buttercup is it’s name

          • krystalkat says:

At first I was like “WHAT”????? but then I realized what he meant and I guess he’s kinda right in some ways but some costumes look just plain awsome. I guess you could say Halloween is my second fav holiday.

I have an idea. Tell your friends. they WILL NOT giggle. Then, have them come to your house and make CUTE and FUNNY and PRETTY costumes.. After you are done trick-or-treating, you can trade candy and have a Halloween party. For the party, you can eat some candy, watch a good movie, AND make a little Halloween play to show off at school if Miss Cowaline (hope I spelled it right) will let you. You can EVEN make cute costumes for the play. If I were you, I would dress up like YOU for Halloween. Who said you HAVE to dress up? It is just what people think is fun to do. You can still get candy for not dressing up. You can tell your friends that you want to be you! And want a tip to hold more candy? Okay- use a pillowcase. Really, it holds more. I use one every year.Last year, I filled almost all of it up.

    • unet101 says:

Oh my gosh that’s exactly how I feel about halloween! Of course I like the candy part and hanging out with my friends but what’s the point of dressing up like a zombie for one of those creepy ghost things with those wide open mouths! Man those things creep me out! *shivers*

    • RedPanda says:

Don’t worry, Alex. I’m afraid of the decorations, too! Those cloaked skull men dudes that make spooky noises scare the life out of me! Once, on guy had one of them when I was little, and I burst out crying, and he let me feed cheezies to his pet bull dog! Alex, I wouldn’t sweat it. If you’re that worried, why don’t you talk to your parents about it? I’m SURE they won’t call you a baby.

I like Christmas too! Hey Alex, don’t worry, mabye you could hand out candy this year…? Then, you can eat the leftovers!!! YAY! A PERFECT SOLUTION! You get the candy, and you can give some to your friends!

    • WebkinzQueen says:

I don’t like Halloween either! I stopped going trick or treating, two years ago because all of my candy goes to waste! I still go to my school’s party’s, and friends party’s. I really don’t like to eat candy, it’s just not my thing. Alex, which is my nickname, we are so alike!!!!, I am sure your not the only one that is scared by these weird costumes, I know I’m afraid of scary costumes, and I’m in 5th grade! But, don’t worry, I doubt that not one of your friends is afraid of weird, gross, and scary costumes. I told my friends and you should too! Please take my advice :)

      • coconutcoo says:

        WebkinzQueen,
I’m a fifth grader too, but I’m not afraid of those spooky costumes. Just think — it’s all not real, Halloween is a day to have fun and be someone you can’t be on a normal day! Of course, I respect your frights (because I know when I was younger I was scared), and honestly I’m not a huge fan of candy myself. Have a nice Halloween!

        • FanofWebkinz says:

Well, I am a big scaredy-cat too, Alex. But I always end up having fun and scary things are just not in my mind! I’m getting used to scary things now, I even got to the Haunted House last year!
Oh, well, just try not to focuse on scray things Alex.

          ~FanofWebkinz~

        • WebkinzQueen says:

          Coconutcoo,
Wow, it is so nice to know someone, or at least chat with someone, that does not like Halloween either. Since I am in 5th grade as well, it is nice to know someone with similar thoughts. I am not afraid of those costumes with fake blood, it is just those really, no highly well thought mask things that creep me out, I just use that so people don’t feel like babies. Thanks a billion for understanding, and commenting, on something I wrote! No one ever does that! Bye! ;) :D
