Uh hi, it’s Alex Tiger. I’m feeling kind of overwhelmed. We’ve been talking an awful lot about Halloween at school and outside of school. In fact, it seems to be about all anyone can talk about right now. It’s just, well, I’m kind of embarrassed to admit this but… well, I don’t really like Halloween.
I like the candy part – that’s about the only part that makes it worth it. But I don’t like dressing up and I don’t like it when other people dress up in scary costumes. What’s so fun about being scared? I hate being scared. And when you go out on Halloween night, there are all these creepy looking costumes and you can’t tell who anybody is.
And the worst part – even worse than the costumes – is all the frightening decorations. There are skulls and ghosts and bats and creepy crawlies all over the place. And some of those Jack-o-lanterns have terrifying faces. I don’t see why people have to make them look so nasty. I don’t mind some of the funny ones.
I just don’t understand what is so great about this holiday. Why would anyone WANT to be scared? Can someone please explain it to me? I’m really not looking forward to it but I can’t say anything to my friends. I’m sure they’re just going to think I’m a big baby.
I agree with you there, Alex. I never liked the scary stuff, either, and I never wanted to dress up as something scary on Halloween. Even now that I’m older, I still can’t see what’s so wonderful about being scared.
It’s OK. Some Halloween Haunted House even scared ADULTS! The bad thing was, a 3 Year old LOVED it! I didn’t go in….

it’s ok Alex no one is going to make fun of you, and besides the pumpkins, bats, ghost and creepy crawlies r just for fun, and if you get scared it;’s probably because your all alone and it makes you nerves, next halloween just hang with your friends. p.s idk rly like halloween that much ether.
i don’t like being scared either. BUT sometimes it’s fun being scared, why don’t you just hum your FAV song? but don’t hum it out loud or people might think your scared. OR on the other hand close your eyes when you walk up a house. Well i gtg 2 bed bye peeps :)

Alex, I completly understand. I hate being scared too but you have to look at it this way:it’s only 1 time in a year. Maybe you could ask your parents if you can pass out candy with them. It’s still alot of fun and you can still get candy! Plus if someone in a scary costume goes to the door you can just go inside and tell your parents! I bet they’ll understand. Oh my gosh, Alex I thought I was reading my own biography. I (finally) learned why people like to be scared. When they are sitting at carpet listening to a story, or sitting in the library watching something scary, they can always look at the ceiling and remind themselves ‘I’m just here with my buds’. But you can hardly look at the ceiling outside at night with decorations leering at you (I hate walking into a store full of decorations to have a skeleton turn towards me and laugh maniacally)
Don’t worry Alex. Wear a costume so cute or imaginative your neighbors will tell you so instead of tricking you.

Alex, sometimes it is scary on Halloween, some people can get carried away and make everything scary like costumes and decorations. I get scared too. There is one thing that helps me, I ask these questions:
am I scared?
Is it real?Are these skulls real?
Is this someone I know?
then i answer the questions like this:
yes I am scared but i will only be scared for a moment. I don’t think this is real and the skulls are plastic. i should ask who that is. these can help Alex.
