Alex Tiger’s Scientific Notebook

Notes from today:

I had high hopes for my mineral specimen, when I went to see Arte Fact. Arte was very pleased to see it – he spent a long time looking at it with a magnifying glass. He chipped off a little piece and looked at it under a microscope – and that’s when he said “uh, oh.”

I was worried that he was going to tell me the stone was cursed or something (with Nafaria around, you never know). But no – he said that the stone was safe. It’s just not unique.

It’s called “Bluffium” and it’s something he discovered years ago. He said that he called it Bluffium because it LOOKS very valuable and shiny – but really, it’s quite common. Almost like fool’s gold.

So I didn’t find anything particularly special, unfortunately.

Arte poured me a cup of hot chocolate and gave me a couple of cookies. He took out his old notebooks and showed me his notes from when he was my age. Know what? They’re really similar to mine! He was super-interested in artifacts, of course, but he did to a fair bit of rock-finding as well.  Arte said that of all the kids he knows, he thinks I have the best chance of finding something really special – he believes I’ll find my unique insect or rock!

So, even though I didn’t get GOOD news today, I’m feeling pretty good – it’s all a matter of time before I find my rock or insect!
