Hi Webkinz fans! The campers and I have decided to transform one of the walls of the craft cabin into a colorful mural to commemorate our time at camp this year. Creating a mural can be a lot of work, which is why it’s a good activity for a group of people.

What you need:

-          A large blank wall area

-          Paper

-          Pencils

-          Ruler

-          Chalk

-          Tape measure

-          Markers

-          Acrylic paint

What you do:

1. Plan your mural in advance by drawing it on a piece of paper.

2. Make sure you have the same dimensions on your drawing as the wall area you will be working on. For instance, if wall area is 10 feet by 6 feet, your drawing should 10 inches by 6 inches.

3. When you have a drawing you are happy with, use your ruler to create a square grid on the paper.

4. Draw a line every inch across and up and down the page to form a checkerboard pattern overtop of your picture.

5. Using the tape measure and chalk, create a corresponding grid on the wall, with the lines a foot across.

6. Make photocopies of the drawing for each child.

7. Each child can take a few squares of the drawing and with the markers, recreate the parts of the drawing on the paper in the squares on the wall.

8. Make sure the drawing at the edge of each square meets up with the drawing in the next square.

9. When all the children are done drawing in all the squares, you should have a drawing on the wall that looks like the drawing on the paper.

10. Now you can start filling it in with color. Again, plan it out in advance by adding color to the original drawing first.

11. When you have decided on where you want the colors, let each student take a different color of paint and fill in that color on the wall mural. Put down a tarp on the floor first to catch any drips.

12. When all the colors have been filled in, stand back and admire your work! Truly a group effort!

It’s a lot of fun! Great camp idea.

But, is it just me, or do Kimmy’s legs look too short? Same for Alex the tiger.
