What you need:
- Two clean, dry tin cans
- Hammer
- Nail
- Long piece of string (about 20 feet)
You will need an adult assistant to help you with this craft
What you do:
1. Turn the cans upside down (so that the open end is facing down).
2. Hammer nail into the bottom of a can to create a hole in the centre. Repeat with the other can.
3. Thread one end of string through the hole and make a knot large enough to prevent the string from pulling through. Repeat with the other can.
4. Now, standing outside in an area with plenty of room, have your friend take one can and you take the other and walk away from each other until the string is stretched tight.
5. When you talk into the can, the vibrations of your voice should travel down the string to the other end, so that you and your friend can hear each other speaking from twenty feet away.
This is a fun way to communicate with your friend across a distance. No texting capabilities though!
Awesome idea! -Dawndrop*
Should do a air cannon too. Lots of fun!
Cool idea! ~IceWolf* = [)

So cool I wanna try
nice. Still, I wouldn’t consider this a camp craft.
it is a camp craft!!!!!!
This is so old-school it’s either gonna be the biggest hit ever or the lamest thing ever!
I guess biggest hit ever then, lol
Awesome! I did this when I had a tree house.
I’d talk to my mom over it, I’d toss the one end out the window to her and tell her what I wanted for lunch, and she used to bring it right to my tree house!
I do wonder if this actually works…
COOOOOOL i just made it AWESOME good job ☺☺☺
Cool! I’ve always wondered how you do this. Does anyone know if it works? $~Addict502~$
I tried this in science club. It works awesome! ~lynxlover*
I love doing tin can phones! Here’s how it works (I think :P): Since the can is tin, the vibration from your voice (soundwaves) vibrate against the walls of the can. Then the soundwaves travel down the string, vibrate into the other can, and your friend will hear your voice. Phew! That’s the most science I’ve done all summer!

You’re right. That’s exactly why it works. -*Dawnstar*
Wow. Science. I made one of these with my friend one time. It was SO cool! I wouldn’t use tin cans though. Sharp edges. (i got cut on a soda can) :( :(

LOL Mudstar, you’re funny. :-D
-Always Smile :-)
So cool! I’ve always wanted to try this!
So cool! I made one out of paper cups so I didn’t need to worry about getting cut. Me and my sister have bunk-beds and I sat on top and she sat below and we tried them out. They worked! It was awesome! :)
I used paper cups, too! I should make this again sometime. ~Amethyst Sparkle ♫♦♥♦♥♫
U r so funny Mudstar! Haha that’s great!! That is how it works… And the fact that u r normally only a few feet from the other person. :P
Um I think these are totally boring. Sorry, but most of these crafts are for little kids. :( :) Thay should have some kooler and better ones.

It works pretty good. Sometimes it tickles your ear because of the vibrations.
I love making these! I made one in class with my friend before. They are so cool!
