Campkinz Room Challenge

Campkinz Room Design Challenge

Hailey here! So I am thinking about maybe working with a new designer since Elwin is gone. I’ve been talking with Wiggles Pig about the possibility of the two of us collaborating on some projects. I also had an application for a summer intern job from a surprisingly young applicant – Plumpy asked me if I would consider letting Nibbles help out around the office while she’s off school. Apparently Nibbles has always had a passion for designing in her own room and Plumpy thought it would be good for her to have something to occupy her while she gets used to the fact that her newlywed big sis wouldn’t be around so much. I could certainly use some help keeping this place in order since I’m on my own now so I thought it was a great idea.

I also thought it might be fun to see how my style meshes with both Wiggles and Nibbles by setting us all a design challenge: we are each going to design a Campkinz-themed room! We each started with the same room with Campkinz Flooring and Wallpaper. You can let me know what you think of each design.

Here are the results:

Nibbles’ Campkinz Room

Nibbles’ room is pretty basic, but then isn’t that what camp is all about? I think it’s great. It’s got space for three campers to sleep, a fire pit with a sitting area, and a desk area to write letters home, as well as some storage for a raft, oars, surfboards and a handy backpack. I think this is a pretty nice looking space for a beginner, don’t you?

Wiggles’ Design

Wow! I have always said that Wiggles had flair. He went in a totally different direction and decided to create a Campkinz-themed studio apartment for one. Is it ever cool! He chose the Nomad Tent bed and paired it with the Long Neck Deck Chair to create a primitive sleeping area. His kitchenette features a Chef Gazpacho stove and the Campkinz Kitchen Set as well as a kitchen island. And he used the Campkinz Picnic Table and Benches for a rustic eating nook. He even divided off one corner to create a simple bathroom featuring a Pirate’s Rub-a-Dub Washtub. Nice job, Wiggles!

Hailey’s Room

Here is my version and I will admit I cheated a bit and used some of my favorite spa pieces to create my bathroom space. I wanted a room where three campers can sleep comfortably, with a bathroom, an eating area and a lounge. I think that this would be a pretty neat space to hang out in for a week or two, don’t you?

All of the cabins are nice, and I really like yours Hailey. I’m a huge fan of your room designing! But overall, I think that you need to go with Nibbles. I’d love to stay in a cabin like yours, but it doesn’t really capture the Camp Kinz feel. I’d feel like I was at a five star hotel, not summer camp! Summer camp is for roughing it, not rocking it! I liked your use of the spa pieces to create a bathroom and I liked your cosy fireplace area. But those aren’t found in summer camp cabins. The same to Wiggles. His kitchen is really nice, and his bathroom is good and rustic. But I think it’s too fancy, unlike Nibbles’ design. Her simple, basic room is exactly the kind of thing you’d expect to see at a summer camp. It has space for what is necessary while at the same time, it’s not Fluffington’s woodland getaway. Some constructive criticism for Nibbles; add in another bed. Most camps have more then three campers to a cabin. I’d also like to suggest adding some plants to bring a little more of the outdoors in. Some pretty orchids or sunflowers, maybe a vase of rainbow flowers for a splash of color on the other tree stump side table. Good job Nibbles!

The challenge didn’t say whether it was supposed to be just a sleeping cabin or one with everything. I choose Haily’s, it’s the most creative & the one I’d most like to stay in.
