Green Tip 3 from Salley: Recycling

Hey Everyone!

It’s Salley again with another green tip. Today I want to talk to you about recycling. If you’ve already done your part to reduce (use less), reuse (use something more than once), the next best thing to do is recycle it. That means the item will get made into something else.

If you have a recycling program in your town, you probably put all of your recyclables out by the curb and they get picked up and taken to a recycling plant.  There, the can be remade into different things. Glass can be recycled an infinite number of times!

The important thing to know is what can and cannot be recycled. Each town has different rules, but generally you can recycle cardboard and glass (and usually plastic drinking bottles). Find out your local rules and make sure to recycle as much as you can!

I am so lucky, I live in a city where we put all paper in a green recycle bin and all glass and plastic in a blue recycle bin and put it out on the curb for pick up. Yard waste is even put into these big brown paper bags, picked up, taken to a compost center where it is recycled into compost that we can then go and get to use on our gardens. And it’s FREE jennifer

My town requires recycling. We can also recycle paper with them. We take our recycling to the center they have. We give our used bottles (both plastic and glass) to the community center, who then recycles them and uses the money to fund community center programs. All the best! MDIChickadee

Cool! We did do this before but my mom stoped doing it. I like to do art and some times I do use stuff you can reuse. So I guess I do help a little. Your true friend, #@#furryhairylion#@#

Who thinks we need better Signatures? They don’t have nearly enough cats OR dogs! ( And no Sig owls! Why is that?) And I JUST HAVE TO GET THE NORMANDE COW… It is absolutely adorable! And Salley, since when do you care about the earth so much? Is it ONLY because of earth day? no offence, just askin’…..

        • Eilish says:

Since you were “just askin’”….It is never too late to start caring, no matter what the reason. ONLY because it’s Earth Day is a good reminder for everyone. Salley is setting a wonderful example. We recycle everything we can. We compost all of our vegetation, grass cuttings, banana peels, etc. We even put shreaded paper in the compost, then it gets tilled into the garden every year when we plant a vegetable garden. You can buy composter containers or make your own. We just wrap chicken wire around stakes in the ground and fill it with anything that came from plants. (NO ANIMAL products go in there, or it will smell bad.) ALL metal scrap can be recycled, not just aluminum cans. We donate magazines to doctor and dental offices. Batteries are saved and taken to the recycle center. In exchange for doing this, we get cash back! Nice bonus!
