Meriwether St. Bernard’s Interview: Part 1

On the advice of the librarian, I went to visit everyone’s favorite teacup aficionado and multi-multi-multi-millionaire, Meriwether St. Bernard. I asked about the “Ultimate History of Webkinz World” book, and she said I could see it if I wanted…but that it might be more fun if I interviewed her. I had no idea, but Meriwether is a member of the Webkinz World Historical Foundation – so she knows a TON of stuff about history. And since she’s on the older side, she also remembers when the fairy fight happened. So I decided to get a first-hand account of what happened.

E: Thanks for agreeing to be interviewed, Meriwether. May I call you Meriwether?
M: Not a problem, dear. And yes, I’m not big on formalities. Meriwether is fine.
E: So, as you know, I’m doing a history project for school. And it’s all about the history of the fairies – but there’s something that seems to be missing from all the history books I’ve taken out of the library – something that I want to focus on. The fight.
M: Ah, the great fight between Nafaria and Alyssa. Yes, most writers don’t discuss it – it was a very bad time in Webkinz World, and many don’t really understand the real reasons for the fight, so they choose the easy path when writing about that time in history – they just focus on the outcome.
E: And that’s why I’m here.
M: I can tell you as much as I know, dear. But the only two who fully understand all the reasons for the fight are Nafaria and Alyssa themselves. And maybe a few of their friends.
E: OK, well let’s start with what you know.
M: Very well. What I know is this: Alyssa and Nafaria used to be best friends. The BEST of best friends. They grew up together, both princesses in the fairy world. They were popular and smart and had many, many friends. You’d never see one without the other! Always planning parties and bringing good magic wherever they went.
E: Nafaria was a good fairy?
M: She certainly was! An excellent fairy, actually. She had amazing powers and everyone thought if SHE became the fairy queen, Webkinz World would be in good hands. She was so brave and strong. Alyssa was sweet and kind, but Nafaria…she had power.
E: So…why did things change? Why did the fairies stop being friends? How did Nafaria turn bad?
M: One thing at a time, dear! The fairies were getting ready to choose their next queen. Everyone knew it would be Nafaria or Alyssa – they were the most talented. Now, when fairies are choosing a queen, they pick the candidate with the best powers. That meant that the girls had to do several different tasks, and then the fairies would vote to choose which performed them better. Well, before the big day, the girls trained together a lot. They’d go off into the forest, far, far away and work hard on their spells. One day, Nafaria came back and Alyssa didn’t. Nafaria claimed that Alyssa had gotten lost – and Nafaria was upset, but maybe not as upset as one might imagine she should’ve been…

Tune in tomorrow for the rest of the interview – there’s so much more to find out!
