Molly’s Tough Day

Know how I’ve been having trouble keeping my New Year’s resolution to be nicer to Millie? Well, I think I did a pretty amazing job today, I must say. What happened? So glad you asked!

I was getting prepared for my birthday party tomorrow. I’ve been begging mom to let me have it at Le Snout (with La Soufflé for dessert), but she thinks it’s ‘more special’ to have it at home. But Millie is at home, making everything a bazillion times harder than it has to be.

Anyway, I was blowing up balloons and taping them to the walls in our basement. I had a huge pile on the floor in the rec room – a huge pile which took forever to blow up, I might just add. Everything was looking pretty good when Mom called me up to the kitchen to check out my birthday cake (chocolate with chocolate icing and chocolate sprinkles – my favorite!) and we got to talking about what I want to do at the party (pizza, movies, games – nothing too fancy).  We were just about to start discussing prizes for the games, when we heard a loud “BANG!” from the basement.

Mom and I ran down the stairs as fast as we could and you’ll never, ever believe what we saw in the rec room.

A pile of balloon pieces. And Millie, right on top of them.

When mom asked what in Webkinz World she was doing, Millie just laughed and said “Jumping in balloon leaves!”
I thought I was going to cry. Or scream. Or maybe both. But Mom just shook her head and said “Millie, balloons are different from leaves. You just broke all those lovely balloons that Molly blew up.”
“I hurt them?” Millie whimpered.
“You broke them!” I said, trying not to yell.
“FIX THEM, MOLLY!” Millie hollered, picking up the pieces. “Get some tape!”
“You can’t fix them. You have to throw them out,” Mom said.
Millie started crying hysterically, and mom carried her upstairs. Me? I searched through our balloon stash to find some new ones. Guess what color they are? Peach. And guess what they say on them? Happy Second Birthday, Baby Pig! Because, you know, they were from Millie’s second birthday.

I have a horrible feeling about this party.
