Salley Cat Visits Ms. Cowoline’s Office

It’s Salley Cat again. Well, you aren’t going to believe what happened this time. As if my year could get any worse. Remember how mad I was that Stoogles and I were in different classes? Well, I guess I let my bad mood affect my behavior because today I got sent to Mrs. Cowoline’s office for bad behavior! Can you believe that?

I was sitting in homeroom and I guess I was mumbling to Roberta about the fact that Stoogles was in a different class because the teacher asked me to be quiet while she was speaking. And you know what? I WAS quiet after that! Instead of talking to Roberta, I wrote her a note. The teacher wouldn’t even have noticed, but Purr-cilla saw me and just as I passed the note to Roberta, Purr-cilla bumped Roberta’s arm so that the note fell onto the ground, right in front of the teacher! She looked at the note and then told me that I needed to go down to the office and have a chat with Mrs. Cowoline.

So there I was, sitting in front of Mrs. Cowoline and I was terrified. I’ve never been sent to the Principal’s office before and I didn’t know what was going to happen. Would she call my mother, or would I get detention or what? Mrs. Cowoline had a pretty serious expression on her face. She had the note in front of her and she said it sounded like I was really upset about not being in the same class as Stoogles.  I told her how frustrated I’ve been feeling since Stoogles and I didn’t get to be in the same School House and then when we weren’t in the same homeroom class, I just felt so angry I had to talk to someone and that’s why I sent Roberta that note. Mrs. Cowoline said she understood that I was upset but that was no excuse for misbehaving. She said change is a part of life and kids have to learn that things aren’t always going to go their way. And that it’s good to meet different ‘Kinz and make new friends. That’s why she changes the classes every year.

But she also said that if there was something in the school that I wanted to change, like kids being in different classes than their friends, I should run for the School Government and then I could have a say in how the school works. She said I’d be a great choice for Class President because I have leadership qualities and she’d rather see me put them to a good use than setting a bad example by acting up in class. She told me that she wouldn’t tell my mother about the note because it was my first offense as long as I promised to channel my energies into something positive.

Wow! I have leadership qualities? Me???  What do you think? Could I really run for class president?

You can do it, Sally! Don’t let Purr-cilla get you down if she enters. Even if she says you will not win, and she would be class president, don’t belive her. And you are very popular with all the ‘Kinz. So, go for it!! We belive in you!! *Peace, Love and Hope, Icefox*

I thought Sally was going for an award! (OK, I also thought she would get in trouble.) I can’t belive the teacher didn’t deal with it after class! I mean, it could have been she was helping Roberta with something! Purr-Cila acts SO immature too! She remindes me of the high school guys who ride the bus with us, doing dumb stuff because they think they can! What stinks is that I had to sit in the back of the bus (where the high schoolers sit, probably so they can do what they KNOW is wrong) and DUDE!!! I am NEVER sitting back there ever again!!! I mean, they were saying bad words I doubt my DAD would even know! and they were calling famous people bad names!!!
On the up side, I had band class today, and we got to try out using the different woodwinds that are in begining band. (Our teacher wants us to make an “educated decision” about what we want to play, so noone goes “Ohhh, it’s SO shiny, I want to play that one, Oh, but that one was in a music video I like, Oh, but that one is SOOOO shiny!”)

Mrs. Cowoline gave you some good advice, Salley. Most just sit around and complain about stuff instead of working to make things better. If someone is really excited or fired up about something they will put a lot of energy into it. If you put your energy into being class president, you’ll get other Kinz’s attention. Maybe they want the same kinds of change you do? You’ll never know unless you try.
