Alex Tiger: Not a Fan of Halloween

Uh hi, it’s Alex Tiger. I’m feeling kind of overwhelmed. We’ve been talking an awful lot about Halloween at school and outside of school. In fact, it seems to be about all anyone can talk about right now. It’s just, well, I’m kind of embarrassed to admit this but… well, I don’t really like Halloween. I like the candy part – that’s about the only part that makes it worth it. But I don’t like dressing up and I don’t like it when other people dress up in scary costumes. What’s so fun about being scared? I hate being scared. And when you go out on Halloween night, there are all these creepy looking costumes and you can’t tell who anybody is. And the worst part – even worse than the costumes – is all the frightening decorations. There are skulls and ghosts and bats and creepy crawlies all over the place. And some of those Jack-o-lanterns have terrifying faces. I don’t see why people have to make them look so nasty. I don’t mind some of the funny ones. I just don’t understand what is so great about this holiday. Why would anyone WANT to be scared? Can … Read more

What You Need: White cake mix, sweetened shredded coconut, vanilla icing, red or pink food coloring, plastic bag, plate, adult assistant What you do: 1. When it’s ready, have your adult assistant remove it from the oven and let it cool. 3. When the cake is cool, turn it out onto a plate. 4. Mix a few drops of food coloring into the vanilla frosting. Frost the cake with it. 5. Put your shredded coconut into a plastic bag and add a couple of drops of food coloring. Close the bag and shake it well to distribute the color. Spread the coconut onto a plate and let it dry. 6. When the coconut is dry, pat it onto the sides of the cake and onto the top. 7. Enjoy sharing your sweet (and pink) cake!

Molly and Millie Fly a Kite

Hey! It’s me, Molly. I just had the most fun day ever with my little sister, Millie. Today I took her to the park with her new kite. It was a really windy day so I knew it would be perfect. I told Millie to hang on to the spool of string and I ran and ran with the kite until the wind caught it. It flew so high! At first Millie was a bit scared she was going to let go of the spool but I ran back and helped her hold it. As she watched the kite dance and bob around she giggled and giggled! She thought it was so much fun. Suddenly, though, the wind changed and all of a sudden the kite started diving down. I tried to run in a different direction to catch the wind again, but it was too late – the kite plunged right into a tree. We ran over to the tree to get the kite, but it was totally stuck. Millie was so upset! I didn’t really know what to do. I tried tugging at it but it was really wedged … Read more

Roberta’s Costume Dilemma

By Roberta Rabbit Okay, can you help me out? I am stuck. I have to figure out what to be for Halloween – it’s only ten days away! – and I still don’t have a clue. I had been thinking of being a mermaid, but I’m kind of worried that with Sera around in the Adventure Park, any other mermaid would pale in comparison. So I thought about being a pirate, but what if Laurabeard decides to go out as a pirate? I mean, her brother is Dogbeard. He can probably give her loads of cool stuff for a pirate costume. How could I compete with a real pirate? I saw this cute Turkey costume, but I’m not sure the Gravy Boat Hat really suits me. I found this wild Werewolf costume but will any of my friends even recognize me? Does that even matter? I AM pretty scary in this get up, aren’t I? Then I saw this cool witch costume. It’s wicked huh? But I’m … Read more
