Roberta’s Craft: Wrapped Valentine Candy Bars

WrappedChocolate

I’m going to take a page out of my friend Alex Tiger’s crafty book and make up some delicious Valentine’s Day Candy Bars. These are super-easy to make, and totally fun to give (and get!).   What you need:Miniature chocolate bars (or, if you’re feeling REALLY generous, full-sized ones), construction paper, glue stick, scissors, glitter or stickers   What you do:   Create a wrapper for each candy bar. You can do this by measuring the bar and cutting paper that will fit around it. Decorate that paper with different colored hearts or a label. Try using colors that look good together – and are ones that you’d see on Valentine’s Day. Using your glue stick, attach the label or hearts. Add stickers or glitter to your wrapper. Write on any messages that you’d like to share. Wrap the wrapper around the chocolate bar and secure it with glue. Give one out to all your friends this Valentine’s Day.

Roberta’s Craft: Lovely Valentines

CraftyRoberta

I know Valentine’s Day is still a few weeks away, but the truth is: it’s one of my very favorite holidays! I like to be well-prepared, so I’ve started making my Valentines early! Here’s what I’m doing this year: Roberta’s Valentine’s Treat bags. Everyone in my class is going to get a whole bag of cute treats. That’s why I’ve got to start now! First up, a bookmark!   Our teacher, Miss Daisy, is always encouraging us to read more. This will help the kids in my class keep their places!                 What you need: Red, pink and white cardstock, scissors, glue stick, sparkles, stickers   What you do:   Cut out one red or pink heart per bookmark. The heart should be about 3 inches tall and two inches wide at the widest point. Cut out one white heart per bookmark. The heart should be about 2 inches tall and one and a half inches wide at the widest point. You’re going to glue most of your white heart to the pink or red heart. You’re just going to leave the pointy, bottom part … Read more

Roberta Rabbit and the Fashion Faux Pas

Rmodel3

To: PJ CollieFrom: Roberta Rabbit Subject: Fashion Faux Pas   Dear PJ,   Remember how you told me to be brave with my fashion choices and to mix colors and patterns? Well, I’ve been doing exactly that. And I guess I’ve been doing it wrong, because everyone thinks I look ridiculous. You saw me on the way home from school today…did I really look that silly? Let me know where I’m going wrong! Please! -          Roberta   To: Roberta RabbitFrom: PJ Collie Subject: Re: Fashion Faux Pas Dear Roberta, Um…well, I’m not sure I’d say SILLY, exactly. But after seeing you on your way home from school, I think I’ve figured out what the problem is: you’re mixing and matching without any kind of rhyme or reason. I guess I may have forgotten to mention that it’s a good idea to have a theme in mind when designing an outfit. Like, for example, when you mixed the neon green raincoat with the red jeans last week (yeah, I noticed that as you walked past the KinzStyle Outlet). That wasn’t a great color combo. If you’d mixed the raincoat with black pants…or even gray…it would’ve been better. … Read more

Roberta’s BFF

NervousRoberta

Know who’s being super-annoying lately? My BFF, Cowabelle. I don’t like criticizing her, but I don’t know how else to put it. See, Cowabelle’s friend Dacey is “being weird” (Cowabelle’s words) and Cowabelle is obsessing about it. A lot. As in, that’s all she talked about at lunch yesterday. And then today, Dacey was supposed to call her at 11:00. But of course, she didn’t. So then Cowabelle called ME and tried to analyze what could possibly be wrong, and why Dacey is so mad at her. I told Cowabelle that Dacey was probably just busy, and that she had no reason to be mad at her, so not to worry about it. Cowabelle said I just didn’t understand. Cowabelle is supposed to be MY best friend. Who cares if Dacey is being weird? Cowabelle has ME. Isn’t that enough?

Roberta’s Fashion Disaster

Robertamag

Well, today was not the best one in the history of Roberta Rabbit. Guess what happened? I took PJ’s fashion advice…but (unsurprisingly), I got it wrong. PJ told me to “be bold” and “mix my patterns” and “not be afraid of making interesting statements with fashion”. Uh, yeah. So I ended up wearing a black-and-white checkered skirt (cute, right?), a neon pink and blue striped top (still cute?), bright yellow knee socks (they were bold!), white sunglasses (for a hint of glam?) and a puffy black jacket with red zippers. And then I ran into Purr-Cilla and Malena. And guess what they called me? Fashion Disaster. FD for short. And that’s what they’ve been calling me ALL DAY. They pass me in the hall and yell “Yo, FD!” They even came up with a chant. “Roberta went and bought clothes to last her, But instead, they made her a fashion disaster!” Yeah, not exactly nice. Anyway, Ms. Cowoline told them to stop (and gave them detention- ha!). I’m not really worried about Purr-Cilla (who cares what she thinks), but my FRIENDS were a little…shocked…at my outfit. I just can’t get the hang of this … Read more

Roberta is DONE!

Roberta

Hey everyone! Roberta Rabbit here with some super-amazing news! My crafts are done. Totally, 100%, no kidding – DONE! And I couldn’t be happier. I’m really glad I took the time to make everyone’s gift by hand this year, but it sure was a lot of work. If I was going to do this again (which, knowing me I will), I’d start much sooner. Maybe in July. But for now, I’m going to sit in the living room, turn up the Christmas carols, have a mug of hot chocolate and admire my pretty presents under the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree. Merry Christmas, my friends!

Roberta’s Homemade Holiday: Raccoon Puppet

Here is a simple hand puppet craft that little kids will really appreciate. I’m making mine for my little cousin! What you need: -          Brown paper bag -          Black construction paper -          Brown construction paper -          Googly eyes -          Black crayon -          Glue -          Scissors What you do: Flip a paper bag upside down. The flap formed by the bottom of the bag will be your raccoon’s face. Fold over a piece of brown construction paper and cut out two semi-circles, about 2” across. Fold over a piece of black construction paper and cut out two smaller semi-circles, about 1” across. Glue the black semi-circles inside the brown ones and glue them along the top of the flap at the bottom of your paper bag to form your raccoon’s ears. Fold over a piece of black construction paper and cut out a black rectangle, about 2.5” long. With scissors, round off the corners of one side of the rectangles. Glue the two rectangles on either side of the bottom of the bag, below the ears, so that the flat side … Read more

Roberta’s Homemade Holidays: Cookies for Ms. Cowoline!

CookieMix

Ms. Cowoline isn’t just the principal at the Kinzville Academy –she’s also my best friend’s mom. I decided to make her a delicious jar of cookie mix. It’s so easy – and everyone knows, Ms. Cowoline LOVES cookies. What you need: 1 quart jar with lid, 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tsp. baking soda, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1 cup oats, 1 cup chocolate chips, ½ cup brown sugar, ½ cup white sugar, gift tag, ribbon, circle of fabric What you do: Put the ingredients in the jar, in the order listed above. On the gift tag, write: “Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix – to make, add ½ cup butter melted, 1 egg, 1 tsp. vanilla extract. Bake at 350 until golden. Enjoy!” Attach the gift tag with a ribbon. If you’ve got the kind of jar with a two-piece lid, you can put a piece of fabric in between the two pieces for decoration. Feel free to add stickers or foam shapes to your jar.

Roberta’s Handmade Holidays: Keychain

KeyChain

My dad is always losing his keys, so I figured I’d make him a keychain. His favorite colors are red, black and gray (or silver). So this is what I came up with!   What You need: Keychain circle, yarn or string, needle big enough for yarn or string, beads in your recipient’s favorite color, scissors   What you do: Tie a knot at one end of the string. String on several beads. Make an interesting pattern! Tie the other end of the string to the keychain. Make sure it’s securely attached! Snip off any extra string. I made two key chains – one for my dad’s car keys, and one for his house keys!

Roberta’s Handmade Holidays: Bear Puppet

Puppet

Hey crafters! I’m feeling a lot better after talking to my friend Molly. I was asking her about what I could make for Millie (her little sister who happens to think I’m pretty awesome), and Molly thought it was really neat that I was making all my gifts this year. She said she wished she was as creative as I am! Talk about a boost to my crafty spirits! I feel much better. And what am I making for Millie? A bear puppet! (Millie is all about having an awesome imagination. She LOVES making up stories!).   What you need: brown felt, scissors, pink fabric paint,  black fabric paint, craft glue, wooden craft stick, different colors of felt What you do: Cut a bear shape out of your brown felt. The bear has to be small enough to fit onto your wooden craft stick. Cut out a muzzle for your bear. Glue it in place. Draw on a black nose and black eyes with the black fabric paint. Let the paint (and glue) dry. Cut out clothes to fit your bear. … Read more

Molly Visits Roberta

Roberta&Molly

I went to visit my friend Roberta yesterday, and I have to say – I’m glad I did. Not only did I escape the insane clean-a-thon that’s happening at my house (in preparation for my relatives’ arrival), but I also managed to cheer Roberta up. When I arrived, Roberta was sitting in front of the TV, just looking really…well, kind of bored and angry. I’m not sure what emotion that is. But that’s definitely how she looked. Roberta told me that she had seen Cowabelle earlier, and when Cowabelle heard what Roberta was doing for Christmas (making all the gifts by hand), she told her that was a terrible idea, and that no one wants handmade gifts. I couldn’t believe Cowabelle! She was so mean to her best friend. I don’t think she realized how much she hurt Roberta’s feelings. I told Roberta that I’d be thrilled to get a gift from her, particularly one she made herself. Roberta was surprised. She said that after talking to Cowabelle, she figured everyone would dislike her homemade gifts. I assured her that we’d all love them. Roberta seemed much happier by the … Read more

Roberta Rabbit: SO Annoyed!

RobertaMad

It seems sometimes you don’t really know who your friends are until you try to make them something for Christmas! I am extremely annoyed with Cowabelle right now. She was SO down on the fact that I’m making my gifts this year. What’s wrong with being crafty? Would she rather get something from the W Shop that ANYONE could buy? Well, actually, don’t answer that. I know the answer is yes. I just really wanted to make this year special, but I don’t feel very much like crafting today. Hopefully I’ll feel better tomorrow.

Roberta’s Homemade Holidays: Decision Cube

Decision Cube

Well, even though I’m not done all of my OTHER projects, I’ve got to forge ahead! Today I’m going to be making a very special gift for my BFF Cowabelle. She’ll get a picture frame like everyone else, of course, but she’s also going to get something SUPER awesome. A decision cube (Cowabelle can never choose what to get for lunch at the cafeteria. I figure a decision cube will save us all a lot of time). What you need: Smallish square box or wooden block, paper, scissors, craft glue, markers, colored duct tape (optional)   What you do: Measure a side of your cube. Cut out six squares of this size from your paper. Write “Yes!” “Definitely” “No” “Not Sure” “Maybe” and “Ask Later” on the paper (one phrase per paper square). Glue your paper squares to your cube (one square per side). You can secure the sides with colored duct tape, if you like. When the glue is dry, ask your cube a question and give it a toss to find out the answer!
