Dear PJ,

Remember how you told me to be brave with my fashion choices and to mix colors and patterns? Well, I’ve been doing exactly that. And I guess I’ve been doing it wrong, because everyone thinks I look ridiculous. You saw me on the way home from school today…did I really look that silly? Let me know where I’m going wrong! Please!

Dear Roberta,

Um…well, I’m not sure I’d say SILLY, exactly. But after seeing you on your way home from school, I think I’ve figured out what the problem is: you’re mixing and matching without any kind of rhyme or reason. I guess I may have forgotten to mention that it’s a good idea to have a theme in mind when designing an outfit. Like, for example, when you mixed the neon green raincoat with the red jeans last week (yeah, I noticed that as you walked past the KinzStyle Outlet). That wasn’t a great color combo. If you’d mixed the raincoat with black pants…or even gray…it would’ve been better. If you wanted to be REALLY vibrant, you could’ve chosen white pants or blue jeans. But the red? Just…didn’t work.

And the army print shirt with the plaid shirt that you were wearing yesterday? With the leopard print tights? That’s a lot of pattern going on there, Roberta! Try to stick with one pattern and then, when you get more accustomed to creating outfits, maybe add another one in there – but try to keep the colors related.

Finally, the striped hoodie and the tan pants that you wore when you came by to borrow magazines last weekend. Well, the hoodie was really cute…but not with the tan pants. The hoodie is relaxed and adorable. The pants are dressy. I’m not sure what kind of feel you were going for, but…it really didn’t work.

So…here are some outfit suggestions I have, based on the clothes you’ve got (thanks to my awesome models for showing them off):

Lana is sporting a cool checkered cap, stylish jeans, and a fantastic striped black and white sweater with a great scarf. I love the bright red Mary Janes – they really make the whole outfit pop!

Sarah is wearing an adorably fun outfit. Check out those stripes and that ruffly skirt! Totally great for a casual party with friends.

Kiara looks ready for a day of school with her fantastic and funky jeans, rhinestone-studded flats, and smart-looking top. The fun bow tops off her outfit perfectly!

Finally, Rachel is looking ready for all kinds of chilly weather with this warm outfit. I simply love the way the white hat and boots pop! And that colorful coat – perfect!

Roberta, I hope these outfits have inspired you. Remember: create an outfit that expresses your true self – but use the helpful guidelines to make sure you look put together!

Good luck!

Love,

PJ
