Thanksgiving is coming up soon… here’s a decorating idea from our archive!
What you need:
-
- Construction paper
- Black marker
- Scissors
- Yarn
- Tape
What you do:
- Hand yarn on the wall.
- Cut out leaf shapes from different colored construction paper.
- Have all your dinner guests write a thing that they are thankful for, on each leaf.
- Attach each leaf to the yarn with tape.
Start a new tradition, adding new leaves to the garland each year!
Do you have a great idea for a craft, recipe or party game? We’d love to hear them!
What a cute idea! =]
This is really cool! I think I’ll try making it for Thanksgiving this year :)
We have a “Thanks Jar.” It is just a canning jar without the lid. Around the mouth of the jar is thin purple ribbon tied in a bow, and around the front of the jar is a little bead and turkey bead kids craft project necklace I bought at Michael’s. Next to the jar is a little stack of small pieces of paper (printer paper cut into 16ths) and a pen. It’s out starting November 1 and every time you think of something you’re thankful for, you write it down and put it in the jar. On Thanksgiving you empty it out and read all the things you are thankful for.
I love this idea! Thank you for sharing it with us! :-)
love this
We love making placemats for the table at my house and using for years after (laminate them)
What a great idea! Especially if you have lots of young ones, you could then put it away as a keepsake. Or even have one that you could add on to over the years.
Great kids’ project! Can’t wait to do this with my daughters! Helps focus on the meaning of the Thanksgiving holiday season- thanks! :)
This is cool! Thanks for the idea, Crafty Kimmy!
Aww, I think that is quite a neat and adorable idea! <3 ^-^
We made napkin rings for the Thanksgiving place settings. Every cousin colored a small picture or drew their own – turkeys, pumpkins, cornucopias, etc. – cut the pictures out, and then glued a loop of felt on the back. The moms folded the napkins fancy and slid them through the napkin rings. The cousins were so proud to see their unique, creative designs decorating the table, and each one would try to sit at the place that had their favorite picture. We are able to reuse the napkin rings year after year and they bring back good memories.
What a lovely thing to do! :-)
Hi Beckinz8! What a lovely idea!
I like this idea! I’m wondering if I can get some small wood decorations. Ones that everyone could color with markers. That would last longer. You know…I have to go to the craft store anyway to pick up some things to finish Christmas gifts. I can swing by the wood decorations aisle and see what they have. I might even have some felt of the right color in my craft dresser. My grandson would love the idea!
Thanks guys! And, ~nanamama12, that’s an excellent idea! Why didn’t we think of that?!? The paper decorations are lasting but getting a little squashed. I wonder if we can do it all again but with wooden Christmas ones. The family has gotten so big, we’d have to do it in rotating shifts. ;)
