Important Update!

As part of an upcoming General Data Protection Regulation that was recently passed by the European Union, we have added a way for our players to easily delete their Webkinz accounts. This was added to ensure the privacy of our players and to continue our commitment to provide a safe and secure place to play online. Note that once an account has been deleted, it will be permanent deleted and players will not have the option to recover any items, pets or currency associated to their account.

To delete your Webkinz account please complete the following steps:

  1. Log into your Webkinz account at Webkinz.com or from the Webkinz mobile app.
  2. Access the Options menu in the top right of the interface, or from the THINGS TO DO menu on the mobile app
  3. Click on the Delete Account option.
  4. You will be prompted to re-enter your password to confirm your decision
  5. You will be given one last chance to cancel or confirm your decision
  6. Once confirmed, you will be logged out and your account will be deleted.

Again, this decision is permanent and cannot be reversed once completed.

Thanks.

Even though I think this update is good, there are a few security issues with it that makes worry me about the safety of my account. I feel like instead of having to enter just your password, you should have to enter one of the secret codes from one of the Webkinz on that account and/or have to answer some kind of security question. Especially since you have to have a secret code to just change your password, you should have to enter one to delete your account as well. With you only having to enter the password of the account to be able to delete it, it would be easier for a hacker to steal all your stuff from your account and then delete your account. You’d then maybe never know why you couldn’t ever log into your account again if something like this happens to you. I know having something like this happen is pretty uncommon but I personally know someone who’s account was hacked. Every item they had in their house and their dock was gone and all their Kinzcash was used to buy a lot of food, which was the only thing left on their account. If this feature was around back then, I’m almost 100% certain that whoever hacked their account would’ve deleted it. I just don’t want for anyone or myself to possibly get hacked and have our accounts be deleted with no way of getting them back. I would especially be very angry about it because I have spent a ton of money on my account, from getting deluxe memberships, buying Webkinz, and buying eStore points. I do think this is a good update though, I just think that there should be a few more security features added to it so it is safer for us.

Thank you! I have a young person whom an account was made for way back in the first couple of years Now she’s almost out of High School. She deleted her account, but she has concerns because a lot more personal info was given back in 2007. I will let her know about this and maybe she will be happier knowing her personal info is safely deleted and no longer in any way available against her wishes.

Oh my gosh. I thought this would be about the “app” version of Webkinz yo download on your computer for when Adobe Flash no longer covers sites. When I saw this, I got instantly terrified! I’ve been a dedicate member for over five years and spent at least five hundred dollars worth into this account! Now I’m *really* scared that one day, I might not be able to access it! Like my friend @ilovemoonie said, even if I lose my interest in Webkinz (I don’t expect that I will for a long time, or ever!), I might want to log back in some day! If I try and it won’t work, I’ll be very disappointed! I’ll have to start all over with one pet and lose all my precious one hundred twenty-one pets that I currently have! Especially Emily! That would seriously make me cry non-stop for weeks! I get that people are saying that this site isn’t that insecure and that the chance of getting hacked isn’t that large, but it HAS happened, and it WILL happen again to some unfortunate players! Please, please add a recovery system (such as answering questions about your account) and a more secure way of deleting your account (such as a short quiz-type thing where you answer questions about your account [I know I said this for both, but it's a great way to insure account safety!])! I’m worried that my password isn’t strong enough now, but I don’t want to change it (because of family and such, personal reasons)! Besides, even if you DID want to delete your account (honestly, why would you), there should be a much safer and secure way of doing so. Also, like others have said, a little child who loves their account more that anything might just see a big red button and press it. Not knowing what it will do, they will type in their password and click “yes” a few times. Next time they want to check on their pet that they love, it won’t let them access their account. I really don’t want to get my account deleted! Please, please, *PLEASE* make it able to be recovered somehow!

Hmm… there should be a confirmation email for this perhaps?

Bottom line: please, please, please make it just a little more difficult for accounts to be PERMANENTLY deleted!!!

Would you consider requiring a pet code in addition to the password in order to delete an account? Or some sort of 24 hour grace period before it gets deleted completely?

  7. luna101217 says:

I understand this new deletion option was created in accordance to a recently passed law… BUT, like most everyone else, I REALLY don’t this idea at all. I have been having concerns about the security of my account lately because it seems like items in my dock are going missing. Knowing that someone out there might be accessing my account or that it is just not secure in addition to this new update is very frightening! On top of that, I’m terrified that I would somehow accidentally delete my account (that’s the kind of luck I have). There really needs to be more “hoops” so to speak for one to go through to PERMANENTLY delete their account. I agree with pinkiecupcake that there should be some kind of feature in the Parent Area for adult players who want to hunker down and safeguard their accounts. I think it would really give a lot of us peace of mind.

Why in the world would anyone want to delete their account? A day without Webkinz is like a day without sunshine!

  9. ngeorgianow says:

There should be, I don’t know, some kind of math problem or something. Little kids, who know their passwords, could accidentally delete their accounts. They see a red button, they enter their password, they hit yes (maybe even a few times), they permanently delete their account. I understand the need to comply with regulations (the parent zone only probably isn’t enough), but …

I agree, there should be some protection from this. Maybe a 48 hour grace period for it to take effect, with confirmation email to the email account associated with it.

    • pusheenlover says:

I agree, and what if there was some hacker who guessed the password and deleted it without our consent? Thats a scary thought. I think the process should be way more complicated like also sending a link to the accounts email to confirm the action so that it can’t be done as easily.

I just realized that I was overdramatic. Sorry!
