Important Update!

As part of an upcoming General Data Protection Regulation that was recently passed by the European Union, we have added a way for our players to easily delete their Webkinz accounts. This was added to ensure the privacy of our players and to continue our commitment to provide a safe and secure place to play online. Note that once an account has been deleted, it will be permanent deleted and players will not have the option to recover any items, pets or currency associated to their account.

To delete your Webkinz account please complete the following steps:

  1. Log into your Webkinz account at Webkinz.com or from the Webkinz mobile app.
  2. Access the Options menu in the top right of the interface, or from the THINGS TO DO menu on the mobile app
  3. Click on the Delete Account option.
  4. You will be prompted to re-enter your password to confirm your decision
  5. You will be given one last chance to cancel or confirm your decision
  6. Once confirmed, you will be logged out and your account will be deleted.

Again, this decision is permanent and cannot be reversed once completed.

Thanks.

I’m not that concerned about this. As far as I know, young children don’t go to the options menu often. And if they did, I doubt they would click on the button that says ‘delete’, and if they even did THAT, I doubt they would type their password in because if they were old enough to understand that they should enter their password, they would also understand the words ‘permanently delete your account; this cannot be undone’, and they would definitely notice the big red paw with an exclamation point. On the topic of hackers, they would only be able to do this if they knew your password. I’m sure Webkinz has a security system as well.

Totally agree. In fact, adults don’t even go to the options menu that often. As for hackers….Hackers hack bank accounts, friends. Not Webkinz. Besides, if you spend your life worrying about things that “might happen”, you miss all the fun in life that is happening right now.

      I agree, Resonatingthunder and animalmomkls!

I have a question about the Change the Password option. It seems like when I created my Webkinz account, it told me the strength of my password was medium. I didn’t think anything of it and used the password anyway. Now I would like to strengthen my password; but when I click “Change Password” it doesn’t tell me how strong my new choice is. So changing passwords won’t do any good if the new one isn’t any stronger than my current one. How do I know if my password is strong or not?

I was going to suggest that we have to enter one of our pet codes incase someone does get into our account, they likely wont have our codes. I see that was already suggested on Facebook, and shot down by Steve with the reasoning of “Not all accounts have pet codes on them,”. Just because SOME don’t doesn’t mean all of the accounts don’t. For those of us that do have codes, it would mean so much to have that protection. When the delete account button is clicked on, it can do a quick check to see if codes are associated with that account, and if so make you enter a code. For the ones that don’t have codes, I guess those could be deleted without the extra protection; which would be unfortunate for them, but codeless accounts don’t usually have much to lose anyway. We shouldn’t all be punished and left unprotected just because some didn’t adopt. Having that code protection might even encourage more players to adopt if they knew that would be what saved their account. If having the extra layer of protection is too much to ask maybe the game shouldn’t even be in Europe. The eStore doesn’t ship to Europe; from what I’ve read, they don’t sell Webkinz at physical stores in Europe; there really is no need for the game to be available in Europe. If you didn’t allow the game to be in Europe, the delete account option could go safely back to the Parent Account area where it belongs.

Do you have any idea how many codes would even be in that system? To code that would take a lot more work and wouldn’t even be a fits all solution because of the aforementioned point by Steve. And just because webkinz don’t exist in phsyical stores and the estore doesn’t ship there is no excuse for shutting down the game for the active players who probably still exist there (if very few, I’m myself not from the americas) just because a button has been made more visible to comply with their laws. Your account is no less unsafe than how it was before.

They already keep track of the codes entered on each account and have told us to hold onto our pet codes incase we forget our password, that’s how we get back in. I already said I knew it wasn’t a fits all solution; but it would work for a lot of us. Plus, Webkinz never treat us all the same. They have different benefits for free, full, deluxe members, pet of the month, and other special pets sometimes, as well as promotions specific to certain locations. It doesn’t make sense for them to suddenly treat us all the same and strip us all from our protection because of a few bad apples. When one area that Ganz wont even provide plush animals to is abusing their power and forcing companies to take the safety away from all players no matter where their location or charging them a crazy fine, that is a great excuse to make the Webkinz game unavailable to said location. Yes my account is less safe than it was before, so is yours and everyone elses. Now a hacker just has to get the username and password correct. When it was in the parent area, they had to get the username, password, and e-mail correct. Also, I don’t know if they sent a conformation e-mail before you could delete an account ( I never tried deleting an account) but for everything else done through the parent account nothing was final until you clicked the link in the e-mail within a certain amount of time. So if there was the e-mail conformation, the hacker would need to get you e-mail password correct too to get in ther and confirm it. But even if there wasn’t the actual e-mail they still had to get three informations right, not just two.

This bothers me a lot. I’ve been playing since 2008 and now you’re telling me that the account I’ve built up for 10 years could be deleted with a push of a button? At least through the parents account it was less easy to exploit since you needed an email to access the option. I have never shared my password with anyone and while I do think people are overexaggerating the hacking thing, it is always a possibility that someone who thinks ruining people’s online experiences on ANY site is fun and will want to exploit Webkinz’s in-game account deletion option. While I have not purchased any estore items myself, many users have, and that money could all go to waste, like I said, with the push of one simple button. I understand that this new feature was required due to a recently passed law, and that email confirmation is not possible in this case, but surely you could add something like a 24-48 hour recovery period that lets you recover the account if you log in again during that period? Very disappointed to hear this news.

I beg the webkinz staff to come up with a solution to the fact that if someone hacked someone’s account, they could delete their account. I don’t want to lose all my beloved webkinz. Perhaps there should be an email confirmation system that ONLY sends an email to the email account linked to the webkinz account. That way the process is more secure. If someone wants to build on my comment, PLEASE DO!

      I agree with you

Me too. I really love my pets and have been playing since… 2016? Anyways, my pets mean a lot to me and I know my password might not be the strongest password ever, but changing passwords is easy too, so I suggest that Ganz add something extra, like security questions, because, (I speak for most players in Webkinz) our pets mean so much to us, and to delete an account by the press of a button? That’s too easy. Ganz, please, for the sake of all the time, money, and love put into our accounts and our mental well being, please increase security! Also, Webkinz is a great game and I want it to be the safest place possible for us and smaller children. And also, if you want to friend me, my user is babymoose88. Thanks for reading!

They should have a completely separate password for account deletion

  8. KrazyKitty03 says:

I just tried to change my password on my accounts in Chrome and IE and neither browser worked. I received no error message and I know I put in the correct information. When I click on the button apply, nothing happens.

  9. KrazyKitty03 says:

This should be followed up with an email to confirm, before deleting! Just like in the 3rd Party adds of the Parent center. And yes this should be in the parent center.

    I like this feature!
