Safe Trading – An Important Notice

As a Webkinz collector, you work hard for your rare Webkinz items, whether they are exclusive items, event prizes or your pets’ PSIs. For this reason, it is very important that if you engage in trading these valued items, that you do so safely.

Recently, we are getting more and more reports of players trying to pull simple scams to trick players into trading their items for nothing in return. Let us be clear that such scams are not allowed and when caught, these players lose their access to KinzChat PLUS and may even lose their Webkinz account entirely.

SCAMS

SCAM 1: “I’ll send you eStore points for your item

No they won’t. They will just take your items and you’ll get nothing. Trading for eStore points is not supported by our trading system, and it is not allowed. Report any player making this kind of offer immediately.

SCAM 2: “I’ll send you a Pet Code for your PSI

No they won’t. It isn’t possible to send over a Pet Code anyway. And remember – Pet Codes are the keys to your account. If you use a Pet Code from someone you don’t know, they can use it to change your password and get into your account. Only ever use sealed Pet Codes, or codes directly ordered from the Ganz eStore. Report any player making this kind of offer immediately.

SCAM 3: “Give me your password and I’ll put a rare item on your account.

No they won’t. What they will do is steal all of your rare items. This is a very common scam on other sites, including YouTube as well. If any player asks you for your password, they want to take your things. Please don’t fall for this, even if there are comments that say “This really works!”

RULES

To best protect your account and your items, please always follow these three simple rules:

RULE 1: Only trade items using our trading tables. This is the only allowable method of trading in the game. This system is secure and requires a double confirmation so you have two opportunities to make sure that you’re making the deal you want. Any other trade in the game is at your own risk and is not recommended.

RULE 2: KinzPost Gifting is not for trading. Gifting is just that, for sending gifts. If you expect something in return, it isn’t gifting. Again, see Rule 1 – only trade at the trading tables.

RULE 3: Never, ever give anyone your password. Not your cousin, not your best friend, not your classmate. Anyone who you give your password to has full access to your account and can do whatever they want on your account, including trading your items, gifting your items, or selling your items. You are responsible for everything that happens on your account, so if you gave someone access to your account, we cannot fix it if they do something that you didn’t want.

The security of your account is extremely important to us. Please use this information to keep your account and items safe, and please share this article with all of your friends who play Webkinz. The more players that know, the safer Webkinz World will be.

Something I Would like to have adressed is that sometimes someone will offer you something and after you click accept, they take it back and click accept before you can do anything! Whats up with that?!

People try to swap out stuff with me too, very annoying. So is the dock thing, im tired of having to go through my dock every time. I have over 700 items so its not easy. I also think they need to expand the selection of words allowed. Like you said, things like ‘pants’ shouldn’t get you a warning.

Yeah…people swap out things with me too! Them, when I switch out my item for something of equal value, they go all mean and defensive and put up angry faces, and quit, it is very annoying! and I don’t even have Kinzchat PLUS! And I have over 2000 items, so it’s VERY hard to find things sometimes! People get so impatient, but I try to be kind to those people, who knows, maybe they are just little kids who don’t know any better, we should stay kind to people on Webkinz, and make fair trades, you know? I try to be patient, and respect people wishes. Although sometimes it gets a little trying… :)

Yeha same thing happens to me everyone! One time I traded the Neo Gothic bed for an apple! At the last minute the player switched out the items! I was so made! and I can’t report them either :(

I agree about the dock being hard to find stuff! that is why I do not always trade lol it takes me sooo long to find stuff the people get upset and leave the table. I wish Ganz would fix out docks so we could a separate trading section, that way we could put all of the thins we wanted to trade there and would be able to locate them better! Something needs to be improved… :)

And I do agree with these rules… there is a specific person who has been scamming people on Plus.

  4. Moose98 says:

Thanks, Ganz for reminding all of us how to trade safely and guard our privacy!

Good post. I do wish that the programming for Kinzchat plus will be corrected so friends can find friends and trade with them. It was safer that way too. And for both chat & chatplus that there would be more rooms. It took me literally hours to try to connect in the trading room with a real life friend who was at my real life house playing WW with me. That is ridiculous

  7. beaubo says:

Horrible! I never trade my psi! I will trade rare items if I have doubles.

  8. KraftyMomOf2 says:

Another serious issue, is being falsely reported. A player tried to bully me into trading clothing my webkinz was wearing. I was clear in saying NO, they were not available for trading. Then the threats started, “I’ll report you for being and not trading me those clothes” or walking around the trading room telling other players that I was mean and unfair, etc … or refusing to trade a rare for a wshop item ..

Luckily our chat moderation team can see situations unfolding in real time, and they will only ban someone if they’ve actually broken any KinzChat rule.

You know this is so cool. Ganz has already said there is an educational component to Webkinz. It encourages kids to read, you use math, you learn how to spend Kinzcash, wisely etc. I can’t think of a more important educational life lesson than learning that there are people who can sound so nice that scam. And best learn it losing a virtual item instead of lots of money when they grow up as adults. But thanks for the rules too because some are fortunate enough to decide not to learn the hard way. Awesome!

I’ve traded traded for estore points, once offsite with someone I knew(back when they gave you codes for estore items) and once with some random person trading room. Wasn’t scammed either time, but being older I can tell more easily if someone is trying to trick you. 99.9% of people trading estore points are scammers. I buy my own points not and won’t ever trade for them again, I didn’t realize your account could be banned for it. It sucks that people get scammed. This is sort of unrelated, but they really do need to bring back choosing room numbers and finding friends in kinzchat plus. This would make it easier for everyone, including pre-arranged traders.

    • jellydonut says:

Gr, I made a bunch of typos/autocorrect fails in that post^

    • Fracktail says:

I concur! Room numbers made it much easier to find rooms that fit your interests. I especially miss the “Quiet” or “Busy” room option, because usually the rooms with more people also have users who enjoy breaking the rules (such as reporting people for no reason or discussing dating and the like). I think the reason why they made most of the changes they did is because they don’t have enough moderators to manage all those rooms, so it’s much easier to just herd everyone into one room then to have a few people in every room available. (On an unrelated note, your username rocks! :D)
