Kind of! From what I remember, whippets are descended from ancient greyhounds who were crossed with some kind of spaniel or terrier. So the greyhound breed is ancient (thousands of years old!), but whippets have only been a separate breed for a few hundred years now. Their personalities are still very similar, though!
Thank you for the delightful doggie history lesson! Whenever I see a very slender dog with that shape, I am never sure which one it is. Maybe if I saw them standing side by side then I would know that the shorter one is the whippet! LOL!
