Upcoming Changes to Google Chrome: How They Will Affect Webkinz

On September 4, Google will be releasing a new version of Chrome that will affect your experience with Webkinz.

Starting with that update, you will need to approve the use of Flash each time you load your browser. When you visit Webkinz for the first time, you will see this:

Please click Allow Flash Player. You will then see this:

Again, click Allow. You are now complete and ready to play Webkinz. As long as you do not close your browser (you keep one window/tab open) you will not have to reapprove Flash. So if you log out of Webkinz, you will be able to log back in without any issues. If you do fully close your browser, you will need to approve Flash again the next time you open it.

Currently, this change will only affect Chrome, though we do expect this change to soon be introduced to other browsers like Edge and Firefox.

As many of you have heard, Flash – the technology on which Webkinz runs – will be removed completely from browsers in 2020. As that time nears, using Flash in browsers will become more difficult. We are fully aware of the challenges that this will pose to fans of Webkinz.

We at GANZ are dedicated to ensuring that Webkinz can be enjoyed for years to come. We currently are working on multiple projects that will keep you playing and enjoying your pets, as well as take the game into the future for even more fun. While we cannot discuss the specifics of those projects at this time (they are in development and their details may change) we do hope to begin sharing details by the end of the year.

As always, thanks for being such amazing fans.

-Your furry friends in Webkinz World.

Hello, how come we can’t invite friends over to our houses anymore?

  2. AylaC says:

Will there still be hunting for gems, the wheel of wishes and stuff like that on the desktop app?

    • Sally Webkinz says:

Yes. The Desktop App is available right now and those features are already available. The only features not available at the moment involve ads and the movie theater

  3. Littlebelle02 says:

My desk top app keeps crashing also it is still running flash and it is not working right. I get messages that the flash player is running slowly.

    • Sally Webkinz says:

Sounds like your computer might be running low on memory. Try closing all other applications when you next play. The Desktop App uses the Flash player — that is how it’s supposed to work.

So then… is this the end of browser Webkinz? I’ve been around since 2011 and am not about to give up one of the few remaining childhood games of mine :T

  5. KinzKollector says:

Is the Tournament Arena available through the desktop app?

  6. AylaC says:

Wait, I have a chromebook and the app is not downloaded will i still be able to play???

    • Sally Webkinz says:

Unfortunately, there is not a version of the Desktop App available for Chromebook

    • Runcorn says:

Dear AylaC, I hope you figured it out on how to get Webkinz for chromebooks. If not, then her is how. You need to activate google play store, and just get the app. I know the app isn’t the best, but if you want to still play some sort of webkinz then the app is the way to go. Also for me, some of the games in the arcade for the app on chromebooks don’t work, but some do. I hope webkinz makes a version for chromebooks or makes the app better.

Can you still play Webkinz on a macbook air if you download it as an app?

  8. shenandoah2012 says:

I cannot believe this is happening. I have 7 accounts with TONS AND TONS AND TONS of items — food, clothing, furnishings, rooms, special items — on and on and on and on and on — I have spent the last 15 years playing Webkinz, long after my granddaughter introduced it to me. I have played all these years in anticipation of my own retirement coming and my having more time to actually play with the items I have accumulated. I hope that GANZ understands that there are those of us who are committed almost daily to Webkinz and really, really don’t want my time and dedication to dismissed. I look forward to hearing GOOD NEWS in regard to the transition.

    • Sally Webkinz says:

We have the Desktop App, which means you can continue playing even after browsers pull support for Flash.

Look, Ganz, first I want to tell you this game is fantastic! I love it so much, and I know I can say the same for many other Webkinz players. I was devastated when I heard that Flash was shutting down, because my friend plays Webkinz using the desktop app, and she told me that the app hasn’t been updated for months! I really need to start using the app to prepare for the Flash shutdown, but I can’t bring myself to install it, because knowing it has none of the Santakinz, Countdown to Christmas, etc. updates, and that is my favorite time of the year on Webkinz World. I was wondering, maybe, just maybe, you could recreate Webkinz X and have Webkinz run on a different software? I know it would be a lot of work for you at Ganz, but I believe in you, considering all the amazing updates you add every day to Webkinz! And 1 last thing before I leave to do the POTM contest, if Flash shuts down and you cannot modify the software, please update the app for Christmas, and all the the other special times in Webkinz? Please? Well, bye for now, I am off to do the Pet Of The Month contest.

        • Sally Webkinz says:

All of those features are available on the Desktop App.

          • babymoose88 says:

Well, Sally, I own a Chromebook and downloaded it off of the Google Play store. I have just installed it and have seen that the last update was one click gardening! Please say you are modifying the software for HTML5!

          • Sally Webkinz says:

If you downloaded it from the Play store, you downloaded the mobile app. The Desktop App is not available for Chromebook — the Desktop App is only available for Mac OS and Windows 7, 8, and 10.

          • rufflesthe4th says:

Hi Sally. Is the Desktop App similar to the Mobile App because the mobile app has hardly any features.

          • Sally Webkinz says:

The Desktop App has all the features of the website, with the exception of the ads and ad prizes

  9. cocoa603 says:

So webkinz won’t shut down soon? I really hope not this is my favorite game

  10. proudhusky10 says:

Hello, will games like Pizza Palace, Gem Hunt, and Dogbeard’s Bathtub Battles survive? They are my favorite games.
