Molly’s Valentine’s Day
This afternoon, we had our Valentine’s Day dance. It was actually a lot of fun! The ‘Kinz and I all just went as friends, no couples or anything. We ate SO many goodies (Nibbles felt pretty sick by the end of things) and danced a LOT! Ms. Cowoline made sure that most of the music was fast, but when one slow song came on, the ‘Kinz decided to dance to it –as a joke, of course. Salley and Stoogles did some kind of waltz, Roberta did a tap dance with Cowoline, Sparky and Nibbles just jumped up and down like maniacs – and then Alex asked me to dance. So we did. I think it would’ve been considered some kind of line dance. Anyway, it was a great time! I’m so glad I went, and so glad that Alex and I are still going to be friends. Tonight, I’m going to visit Salley for a girls’ night in – movies, popcorn, goodies – the works! Hope your Valentine’s Day is wonderful!
Roberta’s Valentine’s Day
Roberta Rabbit here with some great news. My Valentine’s Day treats went over really well with my whole class. Everyone loved them! Well, almost everyone. Purr-Cilla refused to take a bag of goodies from me. She said (loudly, while tossing the bag to the floor) they were ‘juvenile’ and ‘ridiculous’ and told me they were more suited to a kindergarten class. Sparky said he’d be happy to take (and eat) Purr-Cilla’s goodies. Miss Daisy was not too pleased with Purr-Cilla’s attitude, and she decided that maybe Purr-Cilla should stay in at recess and help clean the chalkboards. So, overall, it’s been a great day! I hope you and your friends had an excellent Valentine’s Day. I’m going to head over to Salley’s for a Valentine’s Day girls’ night!
Hailey and Elwin decorate the Gym
Well readers, apparently not everyone appreciates Elwin’s and my fine efforts. Earlier this week Ms. Cowoline asked us to decorate the gym for the Valentine’s Day Dance. Now you know that Elwin and I don’t do anything by halves. I mean, look at this gym. It is in need of some serious TLC to make the transition from boring gymnasium to Cupid’s Lair. And here you have the results of our labors. We went all out – we covered the walls with the pink paneling and gigantic red hearts of the Heart Wallpaper. We brought in this heart-stopping Heart floor covering. We decided that it would be fun to make one corner of the gym into an amusement area with a Carnival Kissing Booth, True Love Crystal Ball, and True Love Test, as well as rides like the Love Puppy Float and Heart Hot Air Balloon. We loaded up a few tables with oodles of yummy Valentine treats like the Valentine Cupcakes and even an ice cream bar. And the most romantic touches were our centerpiece of the Cupid’s Shimmering Spring and the charming Romeo and Juliet Balcony Tower. Perfect, right? And … Read more
Salley’s Unhappy Valentine’s Day
Ugh, you guys. I’m so not feeling well today. My stomach is killing me! I told my mom that I thought I might have the flu, but she said I was probably just excited because Valentine’s Day is coming up. I know it’s really nerves. Panicky, scared stiff nerves. See, no one is very happy with me ever since I called off my party (you know, the one that I never wanted to have, but Stoogles really wanted? THAT party). And Stoogles is being so weird with me – like it’s my fault that everyone at school is annoyed because there’s no party. Hello! Stoogles! It was your idea to start with. And it was a bad idea! Anyway, I can’t wait for tomorrow to be over. I just want to crawl into bed tomorrow night, and forget about Valentine’s Day for another year.
Sparky gets a candy gram.
How humiliating. You will not believe what happened to me today. Every day at Kinzville Academy, right after lunch, Ms. Cowoline (or Ms. Cupid, as she prefers to be called) delivers candy grams to the classrooms that kids can buy for each other. Sometimes they sign it, but sometimes they just write things like “your BFF”, or “your secret admirer” if they want to freak their friends out. So today when she handed them out I got one, which I thought was pretty neat. Until I saw the card. All my friends had gathered around to check out who would have sent me one. I thought maybe it was one of the girls trying to be funny. So I open up the card with everyone watching and it says “Sparky, Be my Valentine. Love, Millie XOXO.” Everyone started laughing their heads off. Except Molly who looked almost as uncomfortable as I felt. She came over and said she was sorry if Millie had embarrassed me. Hmph. That’s putting it mildly. I mean – it’s weird enough that Millie would even send me one, but in front of all my friends? I … Read more
Chef Sophia’s Valentine’s Hot Chocolate
I LOVE Valentine’s Day – it’s one of my favorite holidays! At La Soufflé, I always serve a very special hot chocolate near Valentine’s Day. It’s just a little spicier than regular hot chocolate. Want to make some for yourself? Check out the recipe! What you need: (makes one serving) 1 cup milk, 6 cinnamon hearts, 1 tablespoon chocolate milk powder, 1 tsp vanilla What you do: Have your adult assistant heat up the milk on the stove (in a pot) or in the microwave. Into the hot milk, add the vanilla, chocolate milk powder and the cinnamon hearts. Carefully stir the milk mixture. Have your adult assistant pour it into a mug. Top with pink-colored whipped cream and enjoy!
The Curio Shop: Where Cupid Shops!
By Arte Fact Well, readers, I just wanted to point out that if you’re thinking making a purchase for your sweetheart this Valentine’s Day, you’ll find no better place to shop than the Curio Shop. All month long my cash register has been ringing like wedding bells! That’s because the Curio Shop offers a wonderful collection of rare and not-so-rare items. And if gems are your thing, well, you know there’s nowhere else in town you can mine your own! Just this week I had a certain rhinoceros in my shop looking for a very fancy gold band for a very special someone. I directed him to our diamond rings, but he seemed to think that a bracelet might be more her style, whoever ‘she’ might be (although I’ve got a pretty good idea.) This hippo – I mean, special friend – of his is sure going to be blown away when she sees the beautiful golden bracelet he picked out for her. She is going to ‘plump’ up with pride when he slips that on her hand. Makes me wonder if cash registers aren’t the only bells we’ll be hearing in Kinzville pretty soon. … Read more
Roberta’s Valentine’s Day Card #2
I had another idea for a Valentine’s Day. How cute is this? Crafting Supplies - Construction paper - Green pipe cleaner - 2 green pompoms - 1 red, orange or pink pompom - 2 yellow pompoms - 1 blue or black pompom - 1 white pompom - Googly eyes - scissors - Glue - Letter stamps or crayons - An adult assistant Crafting Instructions: Fold a piece of white construction paper to make a card. Cut a green strip of construction paper the width of the card (pinking shears are great to make a grass pattern if you have them) and glue it along the bottom. Create your bee by gluing two yellow pompoms on either side of a blue or black pompom. Add a white pompom to the back of the bee and a googly eye to one of the yellow pompoms to make a face. Cut a piece of green pipe cleaner about 2 – 3” to make the stem of your flower. Glue it above your grass and add a red, orange or pink pompom to make a flower. Then add two pompom ‘leaves’ … Read more

Valentine’s Day Plans
Ella McWoof here, on a mission to find out what residents of Kinzville are planning to do for Valentine’s Day! Ms. Birdy: I’m planning on having dinner with my dear friend, Dr. Quack. We’re going to visit Le Snout and enjoy some of Chef Gazpacho’s tastiest morsels! Debbie Dragon: I’m not a big fan of Valentine’s Day, to be honest. I’m planning on staying home with a box of chocolates. I’m going to curl up on my couch and watch movies! Alex Tiger: Well, I was planning on going to the dance with a certain someone, but since that’s not going to happen…I’m just going to play video games at Sparky’s house. Molly Pig: I’m going to hang out with my friends. We’re going to do manicures and make sundaes. My little sister Millie told me that I have to bring her flowers, so I guess I’ll do that too. Sigh. And finally, someone who wanted to remain nameless. Mystery Valentine: My plan is a big one. I’m finally going to pop the question to a very special someone. I’ve got a dinner planned out, followed … Read more
Roberta’s Valentine’s Day Card #1
I just love making my own cards at Valentine’s Day. Here is a simple card to make for your friends. Crafting Supplies - Construction paper - Ribbon - Bead or jewel - Scissors - Glue - An adult assistant Crafting Instructions: Fold a piece of white construction paper to make a card. Cut a piece of ribbon slightly longer than the length of the card and glue it down the front of the card, tucking the edges around the top and bottom and gluing them in place. In coordinating colors to the ribbon, cut a heart and a slightly smaller heart out of construction paper. Glue the smaller heart to the middle of the larger heart and then glue a bead or jewel in the center. Glue your heart decoration onto the ribbon on the front of your card. I just know one of my friends is going to love this. Who do you think I should send it to?
Roberta’s Valentine Poetry
Cardinals are red,Hippos are blue,I love chocolate,Almost as much as you! Cinnamon hearts are yummy,When they’re sitting in your tummy,But you might get a glass of water,Because on your tongue? They’re hotter. There once was a pig named Molly,Who thought Valentine’s day was a folly,She was too young to have a crush,Didn’t like love and all that mush,But chocolate? She loved that, by golly! Roses are red, Elephants are gray,Just wanted to wish you,A wonderful day!
Chef Gazpacho’s Valentine’s Cookies
Ms. Cowoline asked me to make something yummy for the kids to snack on during the dance. I’m sure they’re going to love this easy recipe! What you need: - 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour - 2/3 cup sugar - 1 teaspoon baking powder - ½ teaspoon salt - ¾ cup butter, softened - 2 Tablespoons milk - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract - 2 eggs - Heart shaped cookie cutter What you do: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add butter, milk, vanilla and eggs, and mix at low speed until well blended. Refrigerate, covered, for two hours. Preheat oven to 350° and grease cookie sheet. Sprinkle flour on a clean, flat surface and roll out one half of dough to ¼” thick. With cookie cutters, cut out cookies and place them one inch apart on cookie sheet. Sprinkle lightly with sugar, and bake for 12 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely and repeat with remaining dough. These cookies are going to make the Kinzville Academy Valentine’s Dance extra sweet!
Purr-Cilla moves in
Hee hee! This is awesome! Looks like everyone is starting to see Salley for the lame cat she really is. I love it! This is my big chance. I just know that I will soon be the new president of Kinzville Academy School Council. While everyone was grumbling about the confusion over Salley’s Valentine’s party (or should I say Dull-entine’s party?), I took the opportunity to throw out MY fabulous idea about a new location for the school trip this year. I mean, who wants to go to the boring old park AGAIN? I can go to the park any old time. So I started suggesting to some of the kids that this year we go to the BIG CITY! Wouldn’t that be spectacular? I really think that is the setting that I belong in, you know? It’s flashy, it’s bold – it’s Purr-cilla! A lot of the kids were really enthusiastic about it. Of course, there were also some buzz-killers (read: Salley’s friends) who wanted to stick to the boring old park, and Ms. Cowoline said that she really didn’t think we’d be able to afford it. But just you wait. Everything … Read more
