Salley Cat here. After all my careful planning I think that my big earth day project is turning into a gigantic puddle of mud! I got up this morning so excited for Earth Day and it is pouring rain! Can you believe it? Especially after the way all my friends pulled together and got the whole thing off the ground when I was bogged down with too much to do. I mean, we all did all that hard work, but now what? I can’t expect all the volunteers to show up in the rain. I mean, would you want to trudge around in the mud searching for trash?
After all the effort everyone put into this event I think it’s all going to be washed away by rain. I would cry but it wouldn’t make any difference – I’m already soaked.
I’m really sorry this didn’t work out for you Salley but don’t worry! There is always time to make a difference, you don’t need a holiday to do it. Since it’s raining today, why not do it tomorrow? Hi Salley! I think you need to take a wait-and-see approach to what happens today. It is a special day – not only for those of you who have organized it, but for others who want to participate, so maybe it will all work out. So, maybe THAT’S the reason there’s no Earth Day Challenge in our rooms today. It has become a “rained out” event. It would have been nice to get the Earth Day gifts.

It’s raining where I live, too, Salley. But I don’t think you should feel Earth Day is ruined. Think about this: On the day where your loved ones celebrate you (your birthday), you get what you want. On the day where we celebrate the Earth, it should get what it wants, too, don’t you think? And I bet the Earth wants rain! Besides, now that you know the importance of keeping our world clean, and reducing your impact, you can practice those things every day. So I would reschedule the clean up, and in the meantime be happy it’s raining!
So you get a little wet. go out and have fun in the mud while cleaning up the town. Have a secret contest, see who can get the muddiest. I bet ALL the boys would try to win that one. You all have rain gear, get out there, as long as it’s not thundering and lightening, of course. Safety first. jennifer
