Getting School Pictures Taken

Oh, wow! Today was Picture Day so I got all dressed up in my favorite dress, ready for my close up. I was on my way to school when I tripped and fell over – right into a puddle of mud! I was so upset, because I love my dress and I really wanted to wear it in the photo, but now that the skirt was all covered in mud, there wasn’t a chance I could get my photo taken in it.

I ran back home to get changed and by the time I got there I was in tears. Plumpy was at home and she didn’t even have to ask what was wrong – she just had to take one look at me. Plumpy knows how much I love this dress and how much I wanted to wear it for Picture Day. As she stood looking at me, she said, “You know… maybe all is not lost.” I thought she was crazy – the skirt of my dress was completely covered in mud. But then Plumpy turned me round to look at myself in the mirror and pointed out that in a school portrait, you can’t even see the skirt of my dress. That was true, but in the class photo, you’d definitely see the whole dress. “Not if you stood in the back.” she answered. Was she for real? She really expected me to show up for Picture Day in a filthy, mud covered dress? “Let me write a quick note to Mrs. Cowoline, explaining what happened.” she offered.

And that’s how I ended up arriving at school on Picture Day, half covered in mud. I walked past all the kids who were standing around by the door in their best clothes with their mouths hanging open, and up the stairs to Mrs. Cowoline’s office. She looked shocked when she saw me, but when I gave her Plumpy’s note, she just nodded her head and said of course I had to have my photo taken in my favorite dress. So when the time came for our class picture, Mrs. Cowoline was really careful to make sure that I was standing in the second row and that Roberta and Molly, who were sitting in front of me, were squished right up to each other so you couldn’t see the skirt of my dress. The photographer looked just as surprised as everyone else, but he didn’t say a word. And you know what? I think the photo turned out pretty well!

I’m happy for you Nibbles! I always have terrible school pictures. For my sports picture (volleyball), I had one eye open and one eye closed! Good thing it wasn’t the team picture because that one goes in the yearbook. I can never smile right either. For some reason when I’m put on the spot to smile, the smile I give doesn’t look like a natural smile. Oh well, nobody’s perfect I guess.

I got my school pictures done today. The first picture was LOL. I had just sat on the stool, and another lady was fixing my hair, and I was looking down and the guy took a picture of me, and he was like, “Beauitful!” And I was like, OMG, IS THAT MY PICTURE!!?? But he ended up taking some more.. And some good ones, I hope, too!
