Stoogles Birthday

It’s Salley. Stoogles party is going really well and everyone is having so much fun, but there is something that’s kind of bothering me.

There is a TON of food here. Googles really do know how to throw a party. The problem is that they have plastic plates, cups and cutlery. Do you have any idea how bad all that stuff is for the environment? It practically never decomposes. If they HAD to go with disposable plates and stuff (which I really wish they didn’t) couldn’t they have chosen biodegradable ones that would break down eventually? And straws! We don’t need straws!

Not only that, but there are so many of us all dancing around and eating and drinking that this stuff is getting knocked all over the ground and danced on and crushed. Everywhere I look around this party it seems like there’s litter!

And there is way too much food here for all of us too! So I asked Stoogles what was going to happen to all of the leftover food and he was like “Oh, that? I guess we’ll just chuck it.” Chuck it? What a waste! And they have these colored lights up everywhere even though it’s the middle of the day!

I said to Cowabelle and Roberta that I thought this party was really a drain on the environment and you know what Cowabelle called me? A party pooper! And Roberta said that I was supposed to be Stoogles’ best friend and this was a funny way to show it. Just because someone is my best friend does that mean I have to ignore it when they decide to trash the planet?

Salley, I know it’s hard to see the waste–especially food! That’s like a big no-no in our house. But it is a party, it’s Stoogles’ choice what to use for his party, and you have to let others make decisions for themselves–even when you don’t like or agree with those decisions. That’s what being a friend is. Maybe you could offer to help clean up the mess afterwards (sounds like he’s going to need some help) and when he sees the waste for himself, it might make him think twice. You could gently suggest another way to handle the food, like let everyone take a plate home, or give it to a local food bank, but if he doesn’t agree just let it go. Even if Stoogles never makes the same environmental choices you do, he is still your friend; so keep being his.

I have to disagree. We should always be thinking of the environment, even at parties and events. What better way to show your commitment to being green than holding a environmentally friendly event. Salley’s observations are very good. She should ask her parents to help her follow up with Googles elders so their next event is better planned to recycle, have a plan for leftover food, and maybe have solar lights or LEDS.

Salley, I think you were kind of disrespectful at the party. What about instead of complaining to Cowabelle and Roberta, you can nicely ask Stoogles to donate the leftover food to a food shelter. You can help, too! Best of luck! -opghty

Salley, I like to help the environment too, but you shouldn’t wig out about the plastic forks and stuff. It’s a BIRTHDAY PARTY! What else are you supposed to use? China? C’mon, dude!!

Seriously Salley, why are you being such a enviorment freak? yeah, you shouldn’t just chuck stuff, but you are going insane. UGH! I agree with Cowabell you are being somewhat of a party pooper. Stoogles shouldn’t just the chuck the food, i know that, now that’s just nautghy. P.s. if anyone wants to add me, my username is: Lensysiscuiet.

Salley I totally agree with you, we can’t just be green when it’s easy. BUT, you have to learn how to make Stoogle think it’s his idea to give the food away, not get all mad and upset because he wants to throw it away, that was just the first thing that popped into his mind.

Don’t be so uptight Salley! It is a special party for your best friend, and all of the recyclables can be put into the proper recycling bins. If you are worried about the extra food, why don’t you volunteer to take it to the local shelter? Then you can be not only supporting your friend on his special day, but helping the environment and the needy at the same time!
