Alex and April Make Up
Hey everyone, Great news! April and I made up. That is, we’re friends again. Maybe not best friends like before, but good friends. And I couldn’t be happier. It all started when I was on my way to see Sparky at the Curio Shop. I was walking past the park when I heard someone crying. Normally I would be too shy to go and find out who it was, but this time…something made me investigate. When I walked into the park, I saw April sitting at the picnic table, sobbing. I asked her what was wrong and she seemed shocked to see me. She tried to brush away her tears and say “nothing”, but I told her she couldn’t fool me. She hesitated for a minute, but then finally blurted out, “I miss Kinzville SO much! And I miss YOU, Alex!” I was REALLY surprised to hear that. I sat down and we talked for about two hours. It turns out that things haven’t been so great at her new school. Even though her emails to me made things sound awesome, they’re really not. And when she was texting her ‘best friend’? Yeah. She wasn’t texting anyone at all. … Read more
Alex’s Fight
Wow, you guys. Today is one for the record books. I, Alex Tiger, actually had a fight with someone. Normally I don’t like arguing, so I’ll just go along with what someone else wants. But after my insane shopping trip with April yesterday? I had to stand my ground when she wanted to return to the mall AGAIN today. No. I just could not do it. So I told her that if she wanted to hang out, we’d have to do something I wanted to do. Like visit the museum or walk through the Magic Forest or SOMETHING. I was even up for going shopping, if it meant we could go to the Curio Shop. And you know what April said? She said I was being selfish. ME! She said that I live in Kinzville and could go anywhere at any time, so I should do what she wanted when she was visiting.I tried explaining that friendship means doing what BOTH parties want, not just one. April wouldn’t hear anything of it, though. She whipped out her phone and started texting someone. I asked her what she was writing and who she was writing to. She said she was … Read more
April’s Arrival
Hey everyone, Alex here with a bit of a problem. Have you ever had a friend who you were REALLY close with change a whole ton? Like, change so much that you don’t really know them anymore? That’s what I realized today: April has changed. April came over to my house this morning and she was totally pumped to spend the day together. I was really glad to see her – until she told me what we were going to do. She said she wanted to hit the mall for some new clothes, makeup, perfume and all sorts of other stuff. I said that I was more interested in going to the park or museum and then maybe having some ice cream, but she said that was baby stuff and she wasn’t really into ice cream anymore. How can you not be into ice cream? Anyway, we went to the mall and I spent the ENTIRE day following her from store to store, watching her try on different outfits. Most of the time, it was like I wasn’t even there –she didn’t say anything to me other than “Carry this bag, would you?” I told her that I … Read more
Alex’s Trick
Okay, this was supposed to be a really funny day but it didn’t exactly turn out the way I had planned. Because I knew that ghosts are not real and there was no way that old shipwreck by the shore could possibly be haunted. So I decided to set up this fake ghost to scare my friends. I told them that I had an idea to draw out the ghost and that they should meet me at the ship. I hid on the ship’s deck under a sheet with a couple of eyes cut out. When I heard my friends getting closer, I stood up with the sheet over me and in a low voice I called out “Spaaarkyyyy!” At first they all screamed then I think they immediately realized it was just a trick and they started to laugh. But then, all of a sudden they stopped laughing and just stood, speechless, staring at me. Everyone’s mouth was hanging open and from behind me I heard a very deep voice rasp out “My love, is that you?” just as I saw two white, wispy arms encircle me from behind. As the arms closed in on me I felt a … Read more
An Enchanting New Clue
Hi, Sparky here with an interesting thing that happened to Alex and I. We were outside playing wizards (because we both love books and movies about magic, potions, wizards and spells!) near the W Shop and saw something on the ground that looked like train tracks! We were confused because there’s no railway in this part of town so we went to look closer. And guess what we saw? A really cool-looking old clock! But JUST when we were almost close enough to touch them, the clock and the tracks DISAPPEARED! How weird is that? For a second I thought that we actually had magic powers but Alex just wouldn’t believe that. Anyway, we swear we saw them and then they were just GONE. What’s going on in Kinzville right now?
Alex’s Scientific Journal: The Shipwreck is NOT Haunted!
Alex Tiger here with a page out of my scientific journal! My friends totally believe that that shipwreck is haunted, which just can’t be true. I know it’s spooky to think that there are actually ghosts aboard, but that’s nothing a bit of evidence can’t solve. Here are my scientific reasons why the ship may seem haunted but actually ISN’T: Strong winds shaking the ship. That shuddering noise we all heard? Gusts of wind! Plus when it whistles through the boards it sounds like moaning. Cool breezes off the water. Some people say that when you feel a chill, that means you walked through a ghost, but I don’t think so. The ship is on a beach, and that means cool breezes make it to shore—even through a boat’s cabin door! We felt a sea breeze, NOT a ghost. See? There’s nothing to be afraid of. I’m going to present my findings to my friends (especially Sparky, he was so scared!) and then they’ll see there’s no way there’s such a thing as a ghost!
The ‘Kinz Make a Startling Discovery
Oh my gosh! It’s Sally Cat and do I ever have some freaky news to share with you! Sparky and Alex went back to that haunted shipwreck that we discovered the day of Sparky’s party. Why did they go back? It’s a mystery to me! Apparently they had another spooky experience, despite Alex’s insistence that there is some scientific reason for the noises and the shaking. So today Stoogles and I decided to do a little research. We went to the library to check and see if there were any reported cases of a haunted shipwreck on the shores of Kinzville. And guess what? It turns out that for years there have been cases of strange happenings around that lake! Residents of Kinzville have reported seeing a ghostly creature floating around the lake, groaning as if in pain! Theories are that it is the Pirate Ghost, searching for his lost love! How wild is that? I think that what we heard the other day were the sobs of the heartbroken Ghost Pirate! A real live (well, dead) ghost – right here in Kinzville!
Alex & Sparky: Back to the Boat
Alex Tiger here. The other day at Sparky’s birthday we had a really scary adventure! While we were by the lake, there were some very strange sounds coming from this old boat that had washed up on the shore. Everyone freaked out and ran away, but I am convinced that there must be a reasonable explanation. Maybe it was just the wind running through the old shipwreck. So today I persuaded Sparky to come back to the boat with me to investigate. He really didn’t want to go, but I thought it would be good to bring someone else along – not because I was scared or anything – I just wanted to show him that there was nothing supernatural making that noise. As we got close to the shipwreck, everything was calm, although Sparky was a bit shaky. I talked Sparky into climbing up onto the deck of the ship with me and I was just about to show him that it was nothing but an old boat when suddenly it started shaking and that groaning sound started up again. Then a cold breeze blew out of the cabin on the ship. I wanted to investigate but Sparky … Read more
What to get Sparky
Hey, Alex here and I’m really excited because my friend Sparky’s birthday is coming up! On Friday some of us were talking about what to get him at recess. He wasn’t there because he and Roberta and Nibbles all had to stay in and clean up Ms. Stripes craft cupboard, ‘cause I think they got in trouble or something. Salley really wants for us to all pool our money and buy Sparky something big, like the 4 Wheel ATV. That is a pretty cool idea, but Cowabelle said that she and Roberta were going to make something for Sparky themselves. They do make really neat crafts – I wonder what they’re going to get him. Stoogles said that he kind of wanted to get Sparky a game from the W Shop, and Molly and Polly both said they were planning to go in together and get Sparky a new Baseball Glove. Hmmm… I’m stumped. I’m not sure what the best thing to do is. I tried to ask Roberta and Nibbles what they thought after school but they were both really grumpy and said that they didn’t want to get him anything. Huh? What was that all about? Maybe it … Read more
Postcard from Alex
Dear Sparky Hi! How’s it going at your uncle’s shop? I hope you’re not too busy. Science camp is so much fun, but Booger kind of needs to chill. I mean, camp has all these awesome activities, like swimming and hiking and crafting, but Booger gets frustrated any time we’re not doing science all the time. So whenever we have to leave the lab he gets in a mood and is not really fun to be around. The silly thing is – we are doing science all the time anyway. At swimming, we have to try to figure out the time based on the sun’s position in the sky, and when we go hiking we collect samples to study in the biology lab and figure out the height of trees from their shadows. And often our crafting projects are for use in the lab, like when we built this cool volcano out of papier mache and then we made our own lava in the lab. But whatever. Booger usually chills after a bit and we can still have fun. And it really is a neat camp – I’m so glad he talked me into coming. Say hi to everyone for … Read more
Fun from Science Camp!
Dear Mom, I know that I said I didn’t want to go when you first mentioned it but I am sure glad I did because Booger and I are having a great time at Science Camp! It’s cool having a friend from home to hang out with while I’m here and Booger knows all about science so he helps me out with our experiments. We just finished a project today that was so much fun! We made a volcano! You know when you mix baking soda and vinegar and you get this really wild reaction? Well, the counselors challenged us to come up with the most realistic looking volcano. Both the volcano and the lava were supposed to look real so Booger and I spent hours building our mountain out of paper maché and then we painted. Booger is all about research so he downloaded lots and lots of pictures of real volcanoes and I added the detail to ours really carefully with a tiny paintbrush. Then, the really hard part was coming up with the right mixture for the lava that would look like real lava. Booger had the idea to mix equal parts of white glue and water … Read more
It’s Camp month!
Hi there! It’s me, Roberta. I am really pumped because my parents signed me up for Craft Camp this summer! It should be a lot of fun. We are starting with pottery this week which will be awesome – I mean, what’s the point of doing crafts if you’re not going to get MESSY, right? It’s going to be great because it’s only a morning camp, which means that I will still have my afternoons free to hang out with my friends and with the new baby when it comes along! When my dad and I were signing up for camp we ran into Molly and Millie. It turns out that Millie will be going to day camp this summer and I could tell by the look on Molly’s face that she was kind of relieved about that. Poor Molly. She keeps telling me that she loves Millie and they do have fun sometimes, but that I should really try to set boundaries when the baby starts to get older because otherwise it’s just going to be getting in my stuff all the time. I will try to remember that! Last summer Booger went … Read more
Alex Tiger: Cheering from a Distance
Hey everyone, Alex here. Know how the entire town is practicing for the big show? Well, I guess I understand why – I mean, they all want to be famous, right? The thing is – I don’t. I don’t want to perform ANYTHING in front of ANYONE. And it’s almost like no one understands that. I tried explaining it to Sparky, but he just said, “C’mon, Alex! Don’t you want everyone to know who you are?” No! That sounds terrible! I don’t want that at all! You know, unless it’s because I discover something amazing or come up with a new theory or formula. Then, sure! But how many scientists have to perform in front of a live studio audience? I think I’ll stick to what I’m good at: rocks, science, and cheering my friends on from a safe distance.
Alex’s Bad Day
Dear April, Today has not been the best day of my life. I was walking home from Sparky’s when I ran into Molly, who was walking home from Cowabelle’s. I said hi, and then she said, “Alex, we have to talk.” I wasn’t sure what we had to talk about, but we sat down on a bench and she said, “Alex, I like you.” And I couldn’t believe it! I was just about to say “I like you too, and I bought you those presents at Christmastime!” when she said, “As a friend. Just a friend.” And then I didn’t know what to say. She kept talking. “Roberta told me you were going to give me chocolates on Valentine’s Day, but I really don’t think you should. We’re just friends, and I’d like to keep it that way, at least for now. We’re young, we’ve got years ahead of us…” And I just nodded. She stuck out her hoof and I shook it. “Still pals?” she asked. And I just nodded again. She smiled and walked off. And me? I just sat there for awhile. But then, after realizing how cold I was, I … Read more
