Secret Santakinz: Sparky Got…

Wow, I can’t believe it’s time for Christmas presents again already! I usually leave my gift shopping until the last minute. And, plus, for the Secret Santakinz exchange I got Stoogles and, uh…I have NO idea what to get him! Help! I need to find out what he wants for Christmas! Maybe…a baseball? Or a hockey stick? Hm, I should really get to know Stoogles better, huh?

Sparky is Thankful

So you guys know how I’ve been kind of dreading Thanksgiving? Well, my friends made me realize how lucky I really am…and that I should stop complaining about the fact that I’m not going on holiday. I get to spend the holiday in Kinzville with my Uncle Arte who has planned a TON of cool stuff for us to do. He’s taking me to the museum, we’re going on a hike, and he’s getting dinner from Le Snout (hooray! No frozen pizza or soggy pie!), and he said there are a few other surprises up his sleeve. Nibbles told me that I should be happy that I’ve got someone to spend Thanksgiving with, and Salley reminded me that not everyone is so lucky. Cowabelle told me about some of the families that she helps at the soup kitchen, and it made me realize that I’m a really lucky kid with lots to be thankful for. So I’m sorry I’ve been complaining. I hope my parents have an awesome vacation, because I know I’ll be having a very happy Thanksgiving.

Sparky’s Unhappy Thanksgiving

You know, normally I LOVE Thanksgiving. It’s usually my mom and dad and Uncle Arte and I at our house, eating lots of delicious foods (especially pumpkin pie) and celebrating together.Since my parents are leaving this year for a vacation (WITHOUT me), I’m really NOT looking forward to Thanksgiving. My Uncle Arte keeps trying to tell me that we’re going to have fun, and that he has all this great stuff planned…but it’s not the same. I bet he doesn’t even know how to make a pie. I invited Stoogles to join us for part of our ‘dinner’ (probably pizza or something). Maybe he’ll make Thanksgiving a little more fun this year.

Tough News for Sparky

You guys will never, ever, ever believe what happened to me today. I’m so embarrassed …and kind of mad. And it’s all because of my parents. We were having dinner and my mom said, “Sparky, we have something we want to tell you about Thanksgiving this year.” And I TRIED to pretend I didn’t know, but I blurted out “I know! We’re going to the Tropical Island on holiday! I can’t wait!” And my parents looked at each other and my dad cleared his throat and said, “Well, we’re not ALL going. I’m going. Your mom is going. But you’re not.” And I just stared at him. I couldn’t believe it. And then he said, “How did you know about the holiday, anyway?” And we got into a discussion about eavesdropping and how sometimes it can give you the wrong idea about something. No kidding. My mom said she was sorry, but she and my dad were about to celebrate their fifteenth wedding anniversary, and this was their special trip. So I get to stay with my Uncle Arte for Thanksgiving. And Uncle Arte is NOT a great cook like my mom. So we’ll probably end up having … Read more

Sparky’s Big Vacation?

Sparky here with some pretty amazing news; I overheard my parents talking last night and I heard my mom say, “Oh, well it’s such a great idea to go on vacation for Thanksgiving. We’re going to have a wonderful time! The Tropical Island is gorgeous this time of year!” (And I wasn’t eavesdropping, by the way. I went to the kitchen to get some milk and they just happened to be talking in the living room, and I just happened to have excellent hearing and I might have perhaps put an empty glass against the wall to help amplify the sound a little.) We’re going away for Thanksgiving? To the Tropical Island? I have one thing to say about that: AMAZING! I can’t believe my parents are keeping this big surprise from me! They’re so sneaky. I’ll try my best to look shocked when they do tell me. For now, though, I can’t wait to tell all my friends. They are going to be SO jealous!

April’s Visit

Hey everyone! Alex Tiger here with some amazing news. My old neighbor, April, is coming back to Kinzville to visit her aunt for Thanksgiving! I can’t believe it! I haven’t seen April in over a year, although we email all the time. April was such a great friend to me when we lived next door to each other, so I can’t wait to hang out again. She said that she wants me to clear my schedule because she’s got days of fun planned out. Sounds good to me! I might even bring along Sparky or some of the ‘Kinz – they don’t really know April as well as I do, so I’m sure they’d love a chance to make a new friend. Thanksgiving is going to be AWESOME this year!

An Enchanting New Clue

Hi, Sparky here with an interesting thing that happened to Alex and I. We were outside playing wizards (because we both love books and movies about magic, potions, wizards and spells!) near the W Shop and saw something on the ground that looked like train tracks! We were confused because there’s no railway in this part of town so we went to look closer. And guess what we saw? A really cool-looking old clock! But JUST when we were almost close enough to touch them, the clock and the tracks DISAPPEARED! How weird is that? For a second I thought that we actually had magic powers but Alex just wouldn’t believe that. Anyway, we swear we saw them and then they were just GONE. What’s going on in Kinzville right now?

Ms. Stripes Class Party: Not So Fun

Wow! I just cannot believe how little Halloween spirit Ms. Stripes has! Today Alex and I made these really cool ghost decorations to hang up in the classroom and when Ms. Stripes saw them she said no way. What??? How can you have a Halloween party without scary decorations? What is her problem? She said that there are younger kids in the other classes who might be scared if they are passing our classroom and see these creepy ghosts hanging up. First of all, Halloween is all about being scared, and second, even little kids know it’s just pretend! Have you seen some of the spooky looking decorations around town? Every kid who walks to school through Kinzville must come across gravestones and ghosts hanging around people’s yards. They know it’s all in fun! Ms. Stripes is just determined that this party is going to be a big yawn. Even though she’s been pretty nice lately, I think that deep down she still thinks school should be no fun at all.

Alex & Sparky: Back to the Boat

Alex Tiger here. The other day at Sparky’s birthday we had a really scary adventure! While we were by the lake, there were some very strange sounds coming from this old boat that had washed up on the shore. Everyone freaked out and ran away, but I am convinced that there must be a reasonable explanation. Maybe it was just the wind running through the old shipwreck. So today I persuaded Sparky to come back to the boat with me to investigate. He really didn’t want to go, but I thought it would be good to bring someone else along – not because I was scared or anything – I just wanted to show him that there was nothing supernatural making that noise. As we got close to the shipwreck, everything was calm, although Sparky was a bit shaky. I talked Sparky into climbing up onto the deck of the ship with me and I was just about to show him that it was nothing but an old boat when suddenly it started shaking and that groaning sound started up again. Then a cold breeze blew out of the cabin on the ship. I wanted to investigate but Sparky … Read more

Sparky’s Birthday Coming Up

My birthday is coming up this month and I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of party I should have. I was thinking of having a baseball party, but Salley said that not all the girls want to play baseball at a party, especially if they’re all dressed up. Nibbles said that I should have a dance party. Um, yeah right. That is NOT going to happen. Nibbles can have a dance party on HER birthday. But I might be sick that day. Then I thought, Ms. Stripes may try to take all the fun out of Halloween, but she can’t take the fun out of my birthday, right? That’s why I decided that since my birthday is this month I am going to throw my own awesome Halloween party! I am going to ask my Uncle Arte if we could hold it in the Curio Shop – it has all kinds of spooky old stuff in the back and maybe we could even go down into the mines! Wouldn’t that be a spooky/cool Halloween party? I can’t wait to ask my Uncle! In fact, I think I’ll go ask him now! Catch ya later!

Ms. Stripes’ Class Halloween party

Sparky (aka Count Sparkula this month) here! Okay, so remember how first Ms. Stripes was really tough and then she got really nice, and I thought someone must have given her a brain transplant? Well, I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that for the most part the nice Ms. Stripes seems to be here to stay. The bad news is that the old Ms. Stripes seems to be rearing her head when it comes to planning our class Halloween party. First of all, she says no candy. What?! How can you possibly have a Halloween party with no candy? Halloween is all about candy! Second, she said that we can’t wear costumes because they are a hazard – that we might trip over our cloaks at recess or that they would impair our vision and make us walk into a tree or something!  If we can’t have candy and we can’t wear costumes, then what is the point of even having a Halloween party?

The New and Improved Ms. Stripes

Sparky here. Wow! I don’t know who gave Ms. Stripes the brain transplant, but whoever it was, I owe them BIG TIME! Ms. Stripes has actually been really nice the past couple of days. When something happens in class she doesn’t immediately freak out and try to track down the culprit so she can punish them. Now she just says “Okay, settle down.” And we do! ‘Cause sometimes kids just get a bit silly and we just need to be reminded how to act, not sentenced to hard time. A lot of students were having a hard time understanding our fractions assignment the other day and Ms. Stripes did the craziest thing ever – the next day, she brought in a pan of brownies she had baked, and we divided it up into half and then quarters and then eighths’ and then we used the brownies to try adding quarters and eighths! And then we got to eat them! Okay, first of all – that was AWESOME, and second, we totally understood the whole fraction thing by the end of the lesson! I don’t know if this is going to keep up or if … Read more
