Purr-cilla’s Party

Yikes. It’s Penelope here. You know, Purr-cilla’s friend, Penelope? Janice and I just left Purr-cilla’s party. She is not happy. We got there and she had all this food prepared and all these decorations up. She had gone all out because she said she wanted this to be the most awesome party every. Purr-cilla said that at soon as everyone got there, she was going to crank up the tunes so loud that the ‘Kinz could hear them all the way from the park and then they’d regret that they didn’t come to her party (the ones she invited, that is.) So we’re sitting there, waiting for the rest of the guests to arrive, and we just keep sitting and sitting and sitting. Purr-cilla kept checking the time on her phone, and after about an hour, I think it finally started to dawn on her that no one was coming to her party. She pretended that she didn’t care, but Janice and I could tell that she was really upset. So then Janice said that we meant to bring something but we had forgotten and we would be right back. Then she grabbed me and we ran out the door. … Read more

Purr-Cilla: Getting Prepared for the Party!

Dear Diary,   I am super-stoked! Tomorrow is my birthday party – you know, the one that’s going to put all other parties to shame? That one! It’s SO exciting – knowing my friends are all going to be there, happy for me and bringing presents. Ooh, it’s going to be amazing! Now, there’s only one tiny thing…I heard through the grapevine that Sparky might not be able to make it. That’s less than awesome, but I’m hoping it’s just a rumor. After all, I don’t want his FRIENDS showing up if he doesn’t come. Ugh. If everyone I gave an invitation to comes, I should have a couple hundred kids at my party – which should be AMAZING! The trampoline has arrived, along with the juice bar, the ice cream truck and the loot bags I’ll be giving out (each one has a rare item in it! Beat that, other kids!). Oh, this just might be the best birthday I’ve ever had! – Purr-Cilla

Roberta and Molly Decide

It’s Molly! Roberta came up with this great idea for our moms’ Mother’s Day gifts! It’s something that I know my mother will really love and I can actually afford it! We are going to make coupon books that our mother’s can use for babysitting. I am going to offer my babysitting services for my little sister, Millie, and Roberta is going to babysit her little brother or sister after her mom has the baby. Isn’t that such a great idea? And even though it doesn’t cost me anything, dealing with Millie can be a pretty big sacrifice sometimes so I really am giving my mother something from the heart! Roberta is awesome! I’m so glad she’s my friend. She’s going to make a great big sister.

Roberta’s Boy Names

Ugh. So my list of girl names didn’t go over that well with my parents. I tried to be really creative, but apparently ‘creative’ wasn’t exactly what they were looking for. So now I’m working on some boys’ names for them and this time I think I really got it. I made them a list and they were actually more impressed this time around. Here’s what I had in mind: Randolf Richard Rudy Rex Ronnie And Reid   My parents said that these were all pretty good names, but when they got to the end my mother stopped me and said “Reid? That’s cute.” My dad wasn’t quite so sure at first. He said it was kind of unusual, but my mom said he should think about it. She said it ‘had something.’ You mean they might actually take my advice this time? Wow!

A Letter for Nibbles

Dear Diary,   Guess what? My parents are coming home soon! Within the next couple of weeks! They said that they’re going to work on projects here in Kinzville, and they’re going to move back home for good! I’m so excited! They’ve been working as scientists for the past several years, and I’ve only seen them a few times – but now, they’ll be home every single day! I guess I don’t have to worry about what will happen to me after Plumpy gets married – I’ll just live with my parents. How awesome is that?   Love, Nibbles

Roberta’s Dining Room: Before and After

Do you see that picture? That’s what Roberta’s family’s dining room looked like, before Hailey and I redesigned it. Now, of all the rooms in the house, I have to say this one was the least problematic. The floors were actually kind of cool. The issue I had was that, again, everything was so mismatched. In differently designed dining room, the table would’ve looked great. And the sideboard. And hey, even the drum! But together, in one room? Not so much. So Hailey and I drew up some new sketches, and this is what we ended up with:     OK, let me just say that I LOVE this room. Green is such a terrific color to use for dining rooms. It’s very relaxing, and the leafy pattern on the wall made the whole room feel so natural. That’s why we stuck with a stone dining room table, and added a few plants for ambiance. Roberta’s parents were thrilled with how this room turned out, and very happy that we remembered a high chair for the future baby!

What to get Mom?

Hey! It’s Roberta. We were all hanging out today and Sparky started going on about how he got his mom this cool Mother’s Day gift. Apparently he was helping his Uncle Arte in the mines and he discovered this cool rock so he decided to make it into a necklace for her. Then everybody started sharing their gifts for their moms and it seemed like everyone had a really great idea but me. Then I saw Molly sitting off to one side looking kind of sad and when I asked her what was wrong she said that she wanted really badly to get her mom a really good gift for all the stuff she does for Molly and her sister but she just couldn’t think of anything good that she could actually afford. I told Molly I felt her pain. My mom works so hard and she has been really tired lately with the new baby on the way and moving house. I want to get her something really special. Molly and I are both stumped. We just don’t know what to get our moms.

Roberta’s Living Room: Before and After

When Elwin and I first saw Roberta’s new living room, we were…well, surprised. It was so pink – and so mismatched! Don’t believe me? Check it out:   Who puts inflatable couches and an air hockey table in their living room? Their pink living room, no less? We knew right away that we’d have to work hard to make it Designer Elephant perfect. Roberta’s mom actually really liked the pink walls, but her dad wasn’t a big fan. Because Elwin and I believe in compromise, we decided to stick with the pink – but make it much easier to live with. By toning down the color, adding a new floor, and picking up some brand new furniture, we were able to create this:   We knew it was a success when even Robert Rabbit said, “Now THAT’S a living room I can live with!” What do you think of it, friends?

Purr-Cilla: bragging again

It’s me, Purr-cilla, and did I mention that my birthday party is going to be AWESOME? It’s pretty exclusive. I’m not having just anyone there, you know. Funny thing happened. I had actually lowered myself to invite some of those ‘Kinz. I thought I’d take pity on Stoogles, Cowabelle, Molly and Sparky and show them what it’s like to really have some fun for a change instead of always hanging with that lame cat, Salley. But apparently they just don’t know a good thing when it’s looking them in the face because they all informed me today that they wouldn’t be able to make it. Whatever. I gave them a chance. It’s not my fault that they don’t want to move up in the world, right? I’m still going to have an amazing party. Who needs them anyway?

What to do in the Big City

Since I am the school council president, Ms. Cowoline has given me a really important job for our school trip to the Big City. I’m helping to plan out our activities. This is a really big responsibility – I want to be sure that whatever we do is fun and exciting, but also safe and especially educational. That’s a pretty big task. I thought that a wonderful cultural experience that would also be fun and entertaining would be to attend a play while we’re there. There are so many great plays in the Big City. Stoogles thought a musical would be a good choice and I agree. There’s also a fantastic science centre and right now they are having an exhibit called: Energy, Past, Present and Future. Again, educational AND fun! Totally fits the bill. There is also an art gallery in the Big City. I know art can be tough because everyone has different tastes, but apparently this gallery has a really neat sculpture garden with all sorts of cool modern sculptures. Doesn’t that sound kinda cool? Stoogles loved the idea, but Purr-cilla was all like, “BOOORING!” I don’t care – I’m putting it on the list. I also … Read more

Roberta Moves

Cowabelle here – I just got home and boy am I tired! We had Roberta’s moving party today and it was a ton of fun. We basically helped Roberta move her stuff all morning (whew!) and then Salley and I left all sneaky-like. We snuck over to my house and got some chips, fruit punch and a carrot cake. We surprised Roberta and her parents – and they were so pleased that they ordered pizza! We spread out a sheet on the floor and ate, picnic-style! What a great way to end a busy day!

Friends Again

Dear Diary, Well, today was a MUCH better day. The ‘Kinz are a club again! We were all standing around at recess, being mad at each other, when Cowabelle came over to Roberta and asked about whether she was all packed for her move. Roberta said, “I’m surprised you’re speaking to me. I thought you’d be too busy planning for the party.” And Cowabelle said, “Look, I’ve been thinking…it’s not right if only four of us go. We’re the ‘Kinz, right?” Roberta looked SO happy to hear that. She gave Cowabelle a big hug. Stoogles came over to see what was going on, and we filled him in. Guess what HE said? “I was thinking the same thing. We’re a club. She invites us all or none of us go. I don’t even like Purr-Cilla very much anyway!” And when we talked to Molly and Sparky, they agreed that we should stick together. So now NONE of us are going to Purr-Cilla’s party. We’re going to have a picnic in the park instead. Sounds like a lot more fun – especially because we’ll all be together. Love, Salley

Postcard from Laurabeard: coming home?

Dear Nibbles, Hi! How are the wedding plans going? I hope everything is going smoothly, but if you need any help, don’t worry about it because I’d be happy to help. How can I help when I’m out in the middle of the ocean on a pirate ship, you ask? Well, guess what? I’m coming home! Dogbeard says that we’ve had such a crazy trip with our trek through the jungle to find Matilda, our discovery of the island where Easter Eggs come from and then that weird business with the stowaway. He thinks that the crew could really use an extended shore leave and we’re both anxious to get home and see our mom and dad. So we’ve set a course for Kinzville and I hope that we will be back in time for Plumpy’s wedding. I really hope so because I so want to be there to see you in your beautiful dress. And Plumpy too, of course! Oh Nibbles! I’m so excited to see you again soon! Love Laurabeard

Plumpy’s wedding prep – flowers and makeup!

Wiggles Pig here. Oh readers, I think Plumpy is starting to get a bit nervous. She keeps calling me to remind me of how much there still is to do. But I’m not worried. We’ve got everything under control. But I did think she could use a break so I arranged for us to meet with Persephone today to help Plumpy choose her make up for the wedding. What could be more relaxing than lying back in a lounger and letting someone else apply make-up to your face, right? At least, that’s what I thought. But it hasn’t exactly gone according to plan. Everything that Persephone does, Plumpy says “Too much! Too much!” I totally get it. I finally pulled Persephone aside and explained that Plumpy just wants a really natural, understated look for her wedding. Persephone is pretty flashy so it took a bit of coaxing, but at the end of the afternoon, Plumpy looked perfect: soft blue eyeshadow to complement her skin tones and shimmering pink lipstick that picked up the color in the sash from her dress exquisitely. Of course, it hadn’t exactly been the relaxing experience I’d hoped for but I knew that our next stop … Read more

Purr-Cilla’s Awesome Party

Dear Diary, I cannot WAIT for my party! You’ll never believe it, but Sparky is actually coming! Of course, he’s bringing his pesky friends with him, but only the three I invited. The other four (Nibbles, Alex, Roberta and that awful Salley Cat) are SO mad. I saw them at recess and they weren’t even speaking to each other! I may have successfully divided the ‘Kinz! HA! I haven’t really heard if many of the other kids are coming. I know Janice and Penelope will be there, and I’m sure that most of the kids I gave invitations to will show up. I mean, please – it’s my party, why would anyone miss it? I’ve got to go and pick out some earrings – mom said she’ll take me to the jewelry store and we can get whatever pair I want! I LOVE birthdays! – Purr-Cilla
