Nibbles’ Worst Day

Ugh, you guys! Today has been the absolute worst. I didn’t even realize it was Friday the 13th until I got to school, but my bad luck started as soon as I woke up. Here’s what happened: I got out of bed and stubbed my toe on my night table. Plumpy told me that the hot water wasn’t working, so I had to have a cold shower. Let me tell you something that’s no fun at all: having a cold shower! After that, I got dressed and ripped my sweater as I put it on. Then I went downstairs for breakfast and found out that the milk had spoiled, so I couldn’t have cereal. We were all out of butter and jam (Plumpy is shopping tonight), so I had PLAIN toast. With nothing on it. Not tasty! Anyway, I picked up my video camera and walked to school. On the way, I didn’t see the huge patch of ice and I completely slipped. I dropped my camera and as of right now, it won’t turn on! Alex is going to look at it, but I don’t expect much from today. Maybe I’ll have him try and fix it tomorrow. … Read more

Roberta’s Crafty Gift: Personalized Stationery

Everyone is trying to figure out what to get Millie for her birthday, but I’ve already worked out what I’m getting her. I’m making her personalized stationery. Millie has a pen pal, so I know she’ll appreciate this! What you need: Scrap piece of paperPencil12 pieces of colored paper Markers or colored pensStickers12 envelopes (that fit the paper you’re using) What you do: On a scrap piece of paper, figure out what kind of design you want to create. On each piece of colored paper, add your design. You can use stickers, markers and pens to create a totally unique look! Personalize the envelopes, too! Put everything into a nice box and add a pretty pen. Your recipient will LOVE their stationery set!
Molly’s Birthday Present

Salley Cat here, with a bit of a problem. Molly’s birthday is on the weekend, and we’re trying to figure out what to get her as a gift. Molly isn’t the easiest pig to buy for, but here are the ideas the ‘Kinz came up with: Stoogles: A lock for her bedroom door. Millie drives her nuts – trust me, she’ll appreciate this. Sparky: A skateboard! Or maybe a game! That’s what I’d want.Nibbles: I have no idea! I’m working on my film!Roberta: I’ve already got an idea. It’s just from me, though. So…good luck to everyone else!Cowabelle: A new sweater. You can’t go wrong with fashion. Alex: A lucky rock? I don’t know. I’m not good at present ideas. So that’s where we’re at. Everyone is willing to contribute about ten KinzCash (except Roberta, who apparently has some great idea of her own). That means we’ve got 60 KinzCash to spend. What do you think we should get Molly for 60 KinzCash?

Winter Fun Day Update

By Ella McWoof Readers, I’m here in the auditorium of Kinzville Academy where Ms. Cowoline is just about to announce the winners of the Winter Fun Day. The whole school is waiting anxiously. At this point it’s completely up in the air – although the Curios owned the morning’s events, the Quizzlings really scrambled in the afternoon so they may just pull off an upset. Here’s Ms. Cowoline’s announcement: “I hope you all had a good day. Without further ado, I am pleased to announce the winning house. In third place, with an excellent effort, were the Quackers. Congratulations. I know you all tried your hardest. You will each receive a 10 KC gift certificate to the W Shop. In second place – and it was a very close call – were the Quizzlings. You will each receive a copy of the book that Arte Fact read to us today, Arte and the Lost Tomb. Which means that our first place winners are the Curios! Congratulations! I think it was the unusual design of your snow fort that really impressed the judge. You will all enjoy a field trip for a special lunch at Le Snout on Friday. Now … Read more
Winter Fun Day: Totally Awesome!

By Ella McWoof Welcome, readers, to the Kinzville Academy Winter Fun Day! I’m here at the Academy where all of the students are participating in some fun winter events. Let’s talk to some of the participants and find out how it’s going. Ella McWoof: Here’s our school council president, Salley. Salley, can you tell us a little bit about how your school house, the Quizzlings, is doing so far? Salley Cat: Well, Ella, we’re off to a bit of bad start. In the toboggan dash we competed to see which team could get their toboggan furthest. We thought we had a pretty good chance because Laurabeard totally flew on her turn, but then Polly and Alex BOTH wiped out on their turns. They added up everybody’s distance to get the winner so we came in last. EM: Sorry to hear that, Salley. Maybe Nibbles, in the Quackers House, is doing a bit better. Nibbles: Well, we’re right in the middle of the snowball toss where we have to try and get a snowball as close to the target as possible. So far, so good. Cowabelle and Roberta nailed it, when … Read more
Fun Games for Winter

Hey there! Young documentary film maker and reporter Nibbles here with some GREAT ideas for winter activities! Stunning Sculptures – Get your friends together and challenge them each to make a sculpture out of snow. Get bottles of water colored with food coloring and have your friends color their sculptures. At the end, you can vote for which one everyone likes best! Snow Fort Building – Build a snow fort with your friends and furnish it with twigs, fallen branches, rocks, ice cubes – anything you can think of to make it look really fancy! Sled Races – Find a hill and race your friends down it! Be careful to keep enough distance between you, and make sure to check out the hill for stumps or rocks ahead of time. Also, make sure to choose a hill that’s away from the road. Make Snow Angels – There’s nothing quite like flopping down in the snow and making some pretty snow angels! Make Fancy Ice – Get a bucket or pail and fill it full of water. Add things like twigs, leaves or rocks. Leave the bucket outside to freeze. When your … Read more
Winter Fun Day with the ‘Kinz

Good morning, children. I am pleased to announce that Kinzville Academy is throwing our annual Winter Fun Day. Today the school will be broken up into our school houses and we will be competing in various events. The winner of the Winter Fun Day will be named the Snow Kings and Queens for the day and the Winter Fun Day Trophy will be placed in your trophy cabinet in the school foyer. I sent a note home to your parents asking them to be sure to remind you to bring along your snow pants, jackets, hats, mittens and boots. I hope you’re all bundled up well because we will be spending the first part of the morning outdoors before breaking for some hot chocolate and cookies, courtesy of our good friend, Chef Gazpacho. Before heading back outdoors we will be warmed by the exciting adventures of Arte Fact. He has kindly agreed to stop by and treat us to a reading of the book, Arte and the Lost Tomb. I am sure we will all be on the edges of our seats! Then it is back into the snow where we will play some more games before breaking for a … Read more
Roberta’s Fashion Disaster

Well, today was not the best one in the history of Roberta Rabbit. Guess what happened? I took PJ’s fashion advice…but (unsurprisingly), I got it wrong. PJ told me to “be bold” and “mix my patterns” and “not be afraid of making interesting statements with fashion”. Uh, yeah. So I ended up wearing a black-and-white checkered skirt (cute, right?), a neon pink and blue striped top (still cute?), bright yellow knee socks (they were bold!), white sunglasses (for a hint of glam?) and a puffy black jacket with red zippers. And then I ran into Purr-Cilla and Malena. And guess what they called me? Fashion Disaster. FD for short. And that’s what they’ve been calling me ALL DAY. They pass me in the hall and yell “Yo, FD!” They even came up with a chant. “Roberta went and bought clothes to last her, But instead, they made her a fashion disaster!” Yeah, not exactly nice. Anyway, Ms. Cowoline told them to stop (and gave them detention- ha!). I’m not really worried about Purr-Cilla (who cares what she thinks), but my FRIENDS were a little…shocked…at my outfit. I just can’t get the hang of this … Read more

Nibbles and the Film Fiasco

Well, I told my friends about the film contest today and you’ll never believe it, but now THEY’RE considering entering. What?! That wasn’t part of my plan! They were supposed to want to help me! Now they might be competition. I was trying to discourage them, and I think it mostly worked…except for Cowabelle. She seemed pretty intent on making a film of her own. Ugh! What if my film beats Cowabelle’s? What if hers beats mine? I hope she just forgets about the whole thing.
One Snowy Deed

Well, even though I didn’t get to help out at the soup kitchen yesterday, I did get to do a good deed today. I asked mom if she had heard from, Mr. Badgerly, our elderly neighbor. Mom said she hadn’t, and I suggested that we visit him to make sure he was OK. Mom was really happy to hear that. We got on our winter clothes and trudged over to Mr. B’s house and knocked on the door. After a few LONG minutes, he answered (he doesn’t move so fast these days). He invited us in for tea, but I said I had something to do first. I took the shovel that was next to his garage and shoveled his entire driveway. When I finally went inside, Mom and Mr. B were enjoying a cup of tea. Mr. B. asked what I had been doing, and I told him. His eyes got all misty and he thanked me about ten times! He made me a cup of tea and brought out these delicious biscuits. He said I could have as many as I wanted, but I only ate two (Mom would’ve freaked … Read more
Salley & Stoogles, BFFs

Dear Diary, Today, I nearly lost my best friend. Quite literally, lost! See, I had been trying to reach Stoogles ever since the snowstorm hit. And hit it did! It was absolutely the worst blizzard I’ve ever seen. Anyway, I called and called and emailed and emailed and – nothing. So I told Mom we should go and investigate. She agreed that it was very odd that no one had heard from ANY of the Googles. As soon as the plow went by, we headed out. Mom drove REALLY carefully (and slowly) to the edge of the forest and we hiked our way in. The whole time, we were calling ‘Stoogles! Stoogles! Any Googles?’ We walked all the way to where Stoogles’ house is. Or, rather, was. His entire house was buried in the snow. I could barely tell where it was! Mom and I started to dig and dig – and finally we uncovered the doorway to Stoogles’ house. I knocked and, after a few moments, I heard a faint waddling. It took us a minute to chip the ice away from the door frame, but eventually the door flew open and there … Read more
